Best in Slot Weapons

Best in Slot Armor

(Ring) Ring of Wizardry: Arguably the best ring in the entire game for any Wizards you have on your team. It grants you double the amount of 1st level spell slots you can have as a Wizard. You can get the Ring of Wizardry: Evermemory from a rock outside the Friendly Arm Inn. The rock is found along the southern portion of the map, for an exact location check out my youtube video on this subject.

(Ring) Ring of Holiness: Probably the best ring possible for any Clerics, Druids or Shamans since it will give you 1 additional spell slot for ranks 1 - 4. You can obtain this ring at the end of Chapter 2 by defeating Mulahey in the Nashkel Mines.

(Ring) Ring of Fire Resistance: Also known as Batalista's Passport this ring gives you a 40% Resistance to Fire Damage. You can obtain this ring from 2 different locations, the first is in the Gibberling Mountains Wilderness Zone. Check my World Overview page if you need help finding this area on the world map. The second location you can find this ring is in the Candlekeep Catacombs during Chapter 6; once you complete the Candlekeep Catacombs you can never go back so make sure to grab the ring when you're there.

(Ring) Ring of Protection +2: This is the highest Ring of Protection you're able to get in the original Baldur's Gate game. You can get this ring as a drop from Ramazith whose found in Baldur's Gate: North. While it's possible to steal it you'll likely be looting it from his corpse.

(Belt) Girdle of Bluntness: Also known as Destroyer of the Hills this is one of the better magical belts available in BG1. This belt is dropped by Caldo whose found in the Dryad Falls Wilderness Zone. He's one of the humans cutting down the Dryads tree in the center of the zone. For help finding this Wilderness Zone on the world map I recommend you check out my World Overview page.

(Belt) Girdle of Piercing: This Girdle is also known as Elves Bane. You can obtain this belt very early on in the game by defeating an Ogre in the Coast Way Wilderness Zone. This Wilderness Zone is the second one you'll visit in the game. If you need help finding this zone check my World Overview page for more information.

(Belt) Golden Girdle of Urnst: There are 2 of these belts available in the game. Kirian in the Mutamin's Garden Wilderness Zone has the first one and the 2nd is dropped by Simmeon whose part of the Dorn II Companion Quest. If you need help finding the Mutamin's Garden Wilderness Zone check my World Overview Walkthrough; Mutamin's Garden is AR3500.

(Boots) Boots of Avoidance: You can get these boots from Nimbul, an assassin who attacks you in Nashkel at the start of Chapter 3. Another potential location you can get them is by killing Meklin when he approaches you and your group in Baldur's Gate: North. You will need Neera in your party for Meklin to be here.

(Boots) Talos's Gift: This pair of boots drops from Mulahey at the end of Chapter 2. You'll have to take him out in order to progress the main story so don't worry about missing him.

(Boots) Paws of the Cheetah: In my opinion this is the best pair of boots in the entire game and I usually spawn in a pair for my entire party via Console Commands. For those of you who don't want to cheat using this item on one of your scouting characters is a great choice. There are 2 locations you can get these boots in BG1, the first of which is from Drasus who attacks you and your party outside of Cloakwood Mines during Chapter 4. The second location you can obtain these boots is from Lothander after completing the Marek and Lothander Side Quest.

(Boots) Boots of the North: The only way you can obtain these boots in BG1 is by completing the Jared and the Bear Side Quest with a high enough Charisma for Jared to give you these boots. You can find Jared in the Bear River Wilderness Zone. If you need help finding this Wilderness Zone on the World Map check out my World Overview (Bottom of Map) Walkthrough page.

(Cloak) Cloak of Balduran: A powerful cloak that comes with Armor Class, Protection against Magic and various Saving Throw boosts. You can obtain this cloak during the Searching for Balduran's Helmet Side Quest or by killing Quenash at any point in time.

(Cloak) Cloak of Displacement: Provides various Saving Throw bonuses to Death, Breath and Wands as well as Missile Weapons. You can purchase this Cloak from Ulgoth's Beard Inn which is the main hub for the Tales of the Sword Coast Expansion Pack. For more information about this Inn and the ToSC Expanion check out my Tales of the Sword Coast Walkthrough Page.

(Cloak) Cloak of Protection +2: Also known as The Spirit's Shield, this cloak is an improved version of Cloak of Protection +1 that you can get from the Candlekeep Catacombs dungeon during Chapter 5 of the main story. Once you complete this dungeon you can never return for this item so make sure you get it while you're here.

(Bracers) Bracers of Archery: Also known as The Dale's Protector; wearing these will give you a +2 THAC0 bonus for any Missile Weapons that you use. You can get this item from Zal in the Fire Leaf Forest Wilderness Zone which is found south of Nashkel. If you need help locating this Wilderness Zone on the World Map I recommend you check out my World Overview (Bottom of Map) Guide.

(Bracers) Gauntlets Of Dexterity: One of the best bracer items you can get in the game, Gauntlets of Dexterity will set your Dexterity stat to 18 regardless of what it currently is. You can obtain this item from the Gnoll Stronghold zone in the southwestern portion of the World Map. When you enter this zone 2 ogrillons will stop you and ask you to pay a toll, defeat them for this item. If you need help finding this location on the World Map check my World Overview (Bottom of Map) Page for more details.

(Bracers) Gauntlets of Weapon Expertise: Also known as Legacy of the Masters -- these are the best Gauntlets you can get in the entire game. Luckily there are 3 available in the game which is good since most groups typically have more than one melee fighter. The 1st pair is obtained from Meilum in the southeast portion of the Firewine Bridge zone. The 2nd pair is obtained from a locked chest inside of Tazok's Tent in the Bandit Camp you visit during Chapter 3. Additionally, you can pick pocket Tazok when you first encounter him at the Bandit Camp during Chapter 3 as well.

(Amulet) The Amplifier: Wearing this Amulet will give Wizards an additional level 2 spell slot. You can get this item by defeating Ramazith, a Wizard found in Baldur's Gate: North.

(Amulet) Greenstone Amulet: You can purchase this Amulet from Ulgoth's Beard Inn which is the main hub for the Tales of the Sword Coast Expansion Pack. For more information about this Inn and the ToSC Expanion check out my Tales of the Sword Coast Walkthrough Page.

(Amulet) Amulet of Protection +1: This is a pretty common Amulet that can be purchased from many vendors throughout the game. The easiest places to get it are Feldepost's Inn in Beregost and the Carnival zone which is to the right of Nashkel on the World Map. It's also sold in the Elfsong Tavern in in Baldur's Gate: East. You can also get it from Ragefast in Baldur's Gate: West, an unmarked house in Baldur's Gate: Northwest and is also carried by Nadine in Baldur's Gate: Central.

(Helm) Helm of Balduran: In my opinion this is the best helm in the game but there are a few magical helms with useful stats on them which may be better for your class or build. This helmet is obtained during the Searching for Balduran's Helmet Side Quest which takes place in the town of Baldur's Gate.

(Helm) Helm of Defense: Also known as Gift of Peace, this helmet can be obtained by defeating an Ogre Mage in Shipwreck's Coast. Essentially how it works is you'll find a named Neriad who you can talk to, offer to help her and she'll summon an Ogre Mage who will fight you. When defeated he'll drop this helmet. Check my World Overview Page if you need help finding where this location is on the world map.

(Helm) Helm of the Noble: Aside from the Helm of Balduran this is the only other helm in BG1 that gives you Armor Class. This helm is obtained by defeating Jardak who is found in one of the houses around Ducal Palace in Baldur's Gate: North.

(Helm) Kiel's Helmet: This helm is found on the 2nd basement level of Durlag's Tower. Picking up this item is part of the event in the throne room on this floor and required for advancing forward in the dungeon. For more information about how to navigate this dungeon and exactly where to find this item check out my Durlag's Tower Walkthrough Page.

This item can be worn by characters who can't wear normal helmets.

(Helm) Headband of Focus: This item can be purchased from Waizahb who is found in the Coalition Camp during Chapter 10.
