Best in Slot Lists for Baldur's Gate 1

BG1 Helm of Balduran

This page is the index page for my best in slot lists for Baldur's Gate 1. I've created a best in slot list for Weapons, Armor and Accessories; every single weapon type and armor type is included on this list which makes them a little bit lengthy. However, this also sets them apart from every other BiS list that you can find online for this game.

What I mean is, my list(s) will include the best Long Sword, Short Sword, Flail, Mace, Axe or Halberd etc etc. Every BiS weapon for every weapon type in the game made it onto my list. The same is true for armor, if you're wondering what the best Leather Armor, Studded Leather Armor, Splint Mail or Plate Mail is I have included each type.

Also, unlike many of the other lists online for this game I only include information about BG1. When searching for info about this game it always bothered me that most lists and guides included information about both BG1 and BG2 and they didn't differentiate between the two well enough. So it left you wondering if the items on the list were even in BG1 at all or if they were only part of BG2.

Best of the Best:

(Weapon) Dagger of Venom: The reason this weapon is at the top of the list is because it's not only a best in slot but it's also extremely easy to get. You can get this from the Thunderhammer Smithy in Beregost for 12000G as early as Chapter 2.

(Weapon) Varscona: I've found myself using this weapon on at least one of my characters in almost every single playthrough of BG1 and even most playthroughs of BG2 as well. This weapon is easy to get early on in the game and will last you throughout the entire game.

(Weapon) Icingdeath: Both Icingdeath and Twinkle (as well as Mithral Chain Mail +4) are obtained by slaying Drizzt who is found in the Fisherman's Lake Wilderness Zone. All 3 of these items are extremely powerful and are BiS for both BG1 as well as Siege of Dragonspear. For help finding Drizzt check out my Where to find Drizzt Youtube Video.

(Weapon) Twinkle: Both Icingdeath and Twinkle (as well as Mithral Chain Mail +4) are obtained by slaying Drizzt who is found in the Fisherman's Lake Wilderness Zone. All 3 of these items are extremely powerful and are BiS for both BG1 as well as Siege of Dragonspear. For help finding Drizzt check out my Where to find Drizzt Youtube Video.

(Weapon) The Stupifier: Arguably the best proc on any weapon in the game, this item will give you a 10% chance to inflict Stun on an enemy when attacking them. While it doesn't have the best attack roles the proc makes this item top tier.

(Armor) Mithral Chainmail: This item is dropped by Drizzt who is found in the Fisherman's Lake Wilderness Zone. He also drops the Icingdeath and Twinkle weapons; all 3 of these items are extremely powerful and are BiS for both BG1 as well as Siege of Dragonspear. For help finding Drizzt check out my Where to find Drizzt Youtube Video.

(Boots) Paws of the Cheetah: In my opinion this is the best pair of boots in the entire game and I usually spawn in a pair for my entire party via Console Commands. For those of you who don't want to cheat using this item on one of your scouting characters is a great choice. There are 2 locations you can get these boots in BG1, the first of which is from Drasus who attacks you and your party outside of Cloakwood Mines during Chapter 4. The second location you can obtain these boots is from Lothander after completing the Marek and Lothander Side Quest.

(Studded Leather) Shadow Armor +3: This is sold at the Beregost Thunderhammer Smithy for 12600G. The only downside of this armor is it's only usable by Theives.

(Plate Armor) The Practical Defense +3: One of the best Plate Armors you can obtain in the game is The Practical Defense which is found in Durlag's Tower on the 2nd floor. You can find this item in a locked chest in the Master Bedroom; for more information about how to clear Durlag's Tower and obtain this item check out my Durlag's Tower Walkthrough Page.

(Chain Mail) Mail of the Dead +2: You can get this Chain Mail by defeating a group of assassins in the southern portion of the Gullykin map. They will initiate dialogue and attack you the moment you get into range. For help finding this location on the world map check my World Overview Page.

(Ring) Ring of Wizardry: Doubles the amount of level 1 Wizard spells you can have memorized. Need I say more? You can get 2 of these items in the game, the first of which is just south of the Friendly Arm Inn (YouTube Video Location) and the second is in Baldur's Gate: Southwest (Youtube Video Location).

(Ring) Ring of Holiness: Kind of like Ring of Wizardry just for Priests, this ring will grant you an additional spell slot for spell levels 1 - 4. You can obtain this ring at the end of Chapter 2 by defeating Mulahey in the Nashkel Mines.

(Ring) Batalista's Passport: Gives you 40% Fire Resistance when worn. In my opinion this is one of the best rings you can get for your melee characters in this game. Many of the more deadly Wizard spells in the game deal fire damage and there aren't many other rings that are useful for melee characters. Check my Accessories BiS List for both of the locations this ring can be found.

(Helm) Helm of Defense: When worn it provides +1 to Saving Throws and +20% Resistance to Fire, Cold and Electricity. This helmet can be obtained by defeating an Ogre Mage in Shipwreck's Coast.

(Helm) Helm of Balduran: This magical helm gives +5 Health and +1 to Saving Throws and +1 Armor Class. For help finding the Helm of Balduran check out my Where to get the Helm of Balduran YouTube Video.
