Best in Slot Weapons - Baldur's Gate 1
This page contains a list of all the best in slot weapons in both BG1 and its expansion pack Siege of Dragonspear. I have included weapons from basically every weapon type in the game so you'll know what the best weapons are for any build you're planning. A few types that I left out are Waijhous, throwing weapons like Throwing Axes or Darts and the more uncommon stuff like that.

Baldur's Gate 1 BiS Weapons:
(Long Sword) Varscona: To get this weapon in BG1 you'll have to defeat Greywolf whose found in the area outside of the Nashkel Mines. In this area you will meet someone by the name of Prism whom will give you the Prism the Sculptor side quest. During this quest Greywolf will come to stop Prism from finishing his work of art. Choose to fight Greywolf and take him out for his weapon.
(Long Sword) Flame Tongue +1 (The Burning Earth): You can find the Flame Tongue +1 weapon on the final level of Durlag's Tower in a bedroom to the east of the slime tunnels in the bottom portion of the map. (2h Sword) The World's Edge +3: The World's Edge is the best 2h Sword in the original version of BG1 as well as the Siege of Dragonspear Expansion Pack. You can obtain this weapon when you complete the Chessboard puzzle in Durlag's Tower. This item will be one of the items that drop from the King chess piece. (2h Sword) Spider's Bane: Spider's Bane is obtained by completing the side quest Spiders in the Cloakwood. This quest begins by speaking with Tiber right when you enter into Cloakwood #2. He asks you to find his brother for him; you'll find his brother's body in a large spider nest in he western portion of the zone. (Dagger) Dagger of Venom: In my opinion this is one of the best weapons in the entire game because you can get it so early at the start of the game and it is the best in slot Dagger for the whole game. This weapon can be purchased from the Thunderhammer Smithy in Beregost for 12000G.
(Dagger) The Grave Binder +2: Aside from the Dagger of Venom this is probably the best Dagger in the game. This item drops from Krystin in the Underceller; you'll have to fight her as part of the main story during Chapter 7 to get the invitation to the Ducal Palace.
(Longbow) Composite Longbow +1: You can buy this weapon at Feldepost's Inn which is in the town of Beregost. It'll cost you a total of 2425G.
(Longbow) Deadshot: Drops from Hakt, an enemy in the Bandit Camp that you visit during Chapter 3. You can find him outside of Tazok's Tent in the northern portion of the zone, he'll drop this Longbow when defeated.
(Shortbow) Eagle Bow +2: Another name for this bow is Protector of the Dryads. This weapon can only be obtained by defeating Marek at the very end of the Marek and Lothander questline; he'll drop it once defeated.
(Light Crossbow) The Army Scythe +1: You can buy this weapon at the Thunderhammer Smithy in Beregost for 9600G.
(Heavy Crossbow) Heavy Crossbow of Accuracy: This weapon also goes by the name The Guide. It can be obtained by defeating Dabron Sashenstar in Central Baldur's Gate. To make Dabron spawn you'll first need to defeat his brother, Aldeth Sashenstar in Cloakwood #1. During the side quest with Aldeth Sashenstar you'll want to side with the druid and kill Aldeth; this will make his brother Dabron attack you for revenge later on.
(Warhammer) Ashideena: The best Warhammer in the game. You can obtain this item by defeating Bassilus in the Red Canyons Wilderness Zone. For the exact location of this Wilderness Zone and more information about it check out my World Overview (Top of the Map) Page.
(Scimitar) Rashad's Talon +2: You can find this weapon in 2 different locations in BG1. The first location you'll find it is during Chapter 4 in the Cloakwood Forest, it's in Cloakwood #2, the one with all the Spiders. Aside from in Cloakwood you can also find this weapon in Durlag's Tower. It's found in the upper floors of Durlag's Tower in an outside portion of the dungeon.
(Scimitar) Icingdeath (Scimitar +3): Both the Icingdeath and Twinkle weapons are obtained from defeating Drizzt who is found in the Fisherman's Lake Wilderness Zone. Be warned that Drizzt will be a very tough fight, it's recommended to use a Wand of Monster Summoning to tank Drizzt for you or some other cheese method to take him out. (Scimitar) Twinkle (Scimitar +3): Both the Icingdeath and Twinkle weapons are obtained from defeating Drizzt who is found in the Fisherman's Lake Wilderness Zone. Be warned that Drizzt will be a very tough fight, it's recommended to use a Wand of Monster Summoning to tank Drizzt for you or some other cheese method to take him out. (Short Swords) The Shadow's Blade +3: The Shadow's Blade is the best Short Sword in all of BG1. You can obtain this item by taking out Slythe in the Underceller; you'll have to fight her as part of the main story during Chapter 7 to get the invitation to the Ducal Palace.
(Spear) Backbiter +3: This weapon is cursed but it's the only other Spear you can get aside from Spear +1 that is magical. You can obtain this weapon by defeating Osmadi, a Shadow Druid in Larswood.
(Sling) Arla's Dragonbane +3: The best Sling you can get your hands on in BG1 is Arla's Dragonbane which can be found on the final level of Durlag's Tower. For more information about how to complete Durlag's Tower and obtain this weapon check out my Durlag's Tower Walkthrough.
(Axe) Battle Axe of Mauletar +2: You can obtain this weapon from the Helm and Cloak Inn which is located in Baldur's Gate: Northwest. Inside of the inn you'll want to speak with the Band of Merry Fools, they're a group of adventurer's by the counter. During this dialogue you'll get interrupted by a different group of adventurers that will provoke a fight with you and the other group. Defeat this group and one of the magical items they drop will be this axe.
(Bastard Sword) Sword of Balduran: One of the best Bastard Swords in the game is the Sword of Balduran which is obtained on the Isle of Balduran. Specifically this weapon is found inside of the Wandering Eye which is a destroyed ship along the northern shore of the island. These zones are part of the Tales of the Sword Coast Expansion Pack and can only be reached during The Reclusive Scholar Side Quest. (Bastard Sword) Albruin +1: This weapon can only be obtained by doing Dorn's Companion Quest and defeating Simmeon and his friends in Wyrm's Crossing. It's one of the magical weapons that they will drop when defeated.
(Club) Mighty Oak +2: You can obtain the Mighty Oak +2 weapon from Amarande, the leader of the Shadow Druids in the Cloakwood #3 Map. For map locations and a better explanation check out my Baldur's Gate Chapter 4 Walkthrough since that covers the Cloakwood areas.
(Flail) Kiel's Morning Star +3 (Cursed): This weapon is the best Flail in the game despite being Cursed. It can be found on the 2nd lower level of Durlag's Tower. For more information about how to complete Durlag's Tower and obtain this weapon check out my Durlag's Tower Walkthrough.
(Flail) The Thresher +2: As for the best Flail that isn't Cursed, The Thresher is what takes the top spot. You can purchase this item from Halbazzer Drin whose the shopkeep for Sorcerous Sundries in Baldur's Gate: East.
(Halberd) Chesley Crusher +2: You can get this item by attacking Ingot the gnoll in the Dryad Falls Wilderness Zone. Ingot is found in the western portion of this area, he'll approach you and complain about being exiled from his tribe for wanting to eat a prisoner and then walk away. Provoke him into a fight or attack him outright to get this Halberd. If you miss him at this point in time he leaves the game forever. (Halberd) Suryris's Blade +2: This item is dropped by Zhalimar Cloudwulfe whose found on the 5th floor of the Iron Throne Headquarters in Baldur's Gate: South. You'll be visiting this building during Chapter 5 of the main campaign but the final floor with Zhalimar is optional. Be prepared for a very tough fight if you decide to enter this floor as Zhalimar is not alone.
(Katana) Katana +1: Yes, the best Katana in BG1 is nothing more than a Katana +1. You can find this item on the 3rd floor of the Cloakwood Mines; be warned once you flood the Cloakwood Mines this Katana will become permanently inaccessible.
(Mace) Krotan's Skullcrusher +2: This mace is found on the bottom floor of Durlag's Tower in a chest near the Tomb Compass Puzzle. For more information check out my Durlag's Tower Walkthrough.
(Mace) The Stupefier: One of the best items in the game because it gives you a 10% chance to stun a target each time it hits for 1 round. This item can also easily be obtained from The Burning Wizard in Beregost very early on in the game.
(Quarterstaff) Aule's Staff +3: One of the 2 best Quarterstaffs in BG1; in the second Baldur's Gate this item is renamed to Cleric's Staff. You can purchase this item from Ulgoth's Beard Inn which is found in Ulgoth's Beard, the main hub of the Tales of the Sword Coast Expansion Pack. (Quarterstaff) Staff of Striking +3: By far the best Quarterstaff in BG1 but it comes with the catch that it only has a certain amount of charges. Thankfully you can always sell an item to a vendor and buy it back to restore charges but that's extra labor that I know many of you wont want to do (myself included). You can find this item on the 4th and final floor of Durlag's Tower. For more information check out my Durlag's Tower Walkthrough.
Siege of Dragonspear Upgrades:
(Bastard Sword) Severance +2: You can find this weapon inside of a container in the Spider Lair of the Forest of Wyrms.
(Mace) Glimmer of Hope +2: This weapon can be found in Troll Claw Woods along the southern end of the map by a group of Orcs.
(Dagger) Acid-Etched Dagger +2: This weapon is looted from a Blind Albino Wyrmling in the Underground River zone.
(Flail) The Hydra +2: You can find this weapon in Slug's hiding place in the Underground River. When you release Slug from the prison at the Underground Crusader Camp (the one that is under Dragonspear Castle) he'll tell you the location of this loot.
(Halberd) Cold Fury +2: This weapon is obtained by attacking the Young Green Dragon who asks you for help in the Forest Paths area. When you enter this area there will be 2 Hill Giants attacking the drake, instead of agreeing to help the drake attack it and the Hill Giants will call in reinforcements. One of the Hill Giant reinforcements that enters the fray is a commander who is carrying this weapon.
(Katana) Crimson Dawn +2: The Crimson Dawn weapon drops from Teth-Se-Nehi in the reliquary, he's one of the cult members inside of the Ruined Temple of Bhaal dungeon.
(Long Sword) Tongue of Acid +3: In order to get this item you'll want to answer Thrix's riddle correctly when you're in Avernus; the correct answer is "Murder". You'll visit Avernus during Chapter 12 of the Siege of Dragonspear Expansion Pack.
(Quarterstaff) Echo of the Fiend +3: In order to get this item you'll want to answer Thrix's riddle correctly when you're in Avernus; the correct answer is "Murder". You'll visit Avernus during Chapter 12 of the Siege of Dragonspear Expansion Pack.
(Scimitar) Dervish Crescent +2: You can purchase this item from Nazramu whose a djinn that you can only interact with if you use the Spectacles of Spectacle. The quest that gives you this item begins by speaking with Zaviak in the Elfsong Tavern at the start of the Siege of Dragonspear Expansion Pack.
(Short Sword) Fractal Blade +3: This item can be obtained by completing the Sarevok's Secret Side Quest in the X-pac. You'll find this weapon specifically in the Ruined Temple of Bhaal after solving
(Spear) Shadowed Spear +2: You can purchase this item from Waizahb who is found in the Coalition Camp during Chapter 10.
(2h Sword) Dragon Blade +3: This weapon is carried by Rigah, an NPC you'll meet during Chapter 10 who is part of the Minsc Companion Quest called The Wychlaran and the Berserker.
(War Hammer) Sundermaul +3: You can find this item in the Vampire Hideout zone located in the Bloodbark Grove. It's found inside one of the 2 chests in this zone.
(Longbow) Corinth's Bow +2: This weapon is found in the Dragonspear Castle Courtyard, it's a reward from completing The Trial Side Quest.
(Shortbow) Fleshripper +2: This weapon is given to you as a reward for completing The Traitor Side Quest in the Coalition Camp during Chapter 10.
(Crossbow) Harold +2: During the Den of Thieves Side Quest this weapon is one of the optional rewards.
