Loping Plains Leveling Guide - Worgs

A rabid Worg

***Notice*** Everyone reading this guide in 2018 or later should note that this guide was written in 2009 or so when Underfoot was the current expansion pack. As you can imagine a lot has changed in the game since that time and some of what you read in this guide may be inaccurate or misleading. This page *does* still have some useful info which is why my newer leveling guides link here - but you should understand that most of the information here is outdated, I've taken what's correct and incorporated it into my newer leveling guides.

If you're here from one of my older links then head over to my new Everquest Leveling Guides Index page as you'll find guides for each expansion for you to choose from. I strongly urge you to use these newer leveling guides instead.

The Worgs in Loping Plains are some of the best XP for the mid to late 70s into the 80s. These Worgs will be a bit hard to kill since they hit extremely hard and a lot of the time come in packs but if you have a group the XP you can be earning here is unparallel. The XP from the Worgs themselves is great but players will also get XP from the task right next to the Worg camp which requires them to kill 20 Worgs.

This task is called Reducing the Threat - Worgs and comes from the NPC Tyrinam whom is just south of the Worg camp in Loping Plains. He also offers two other tasks, one is Reducing the Threat - Wereorcs and the other is Reducing the Threat - Goblins. The Goblins are no where near where the Worgs are so you mine as well not even bother accepting that quest but the Wereorcs are right around the corner so you could accept this quest if your group is good enough to clear all the Worgs and starts pulling the Orcs. Here is a map of the Worg camp and where Tyrinam is:

Loping Plains Worgs Location

The only downside to these Worgs is unless you have extremely good gear and a lot of AAs at level 75 you are not going to be able to solo them. On my level 80 Ranger with full Cultural Gear and about 750 AAs I still had some difficulty here as their max hits for 1.4k added up if they kept getting lucky and hitting me. One good thing about the Worgs is they don't summon so that means they actually can be kited if you chose to do that, however I have never seen someone kiting the Worgs here. Usually the kiters mess with the Crocs to the southeast.

On a note similar to kiting it is important that you know the Worgs run when they get low on health so if you don't have a Snare you probably won't want to come to this location. (Unless you are able to quickly burn them down as they start to run; because if they run into more Worgs that will quickly ruin your fun here.) Unless you start getting into the orc camp to the west you won't encounter and named mobs here which is nice if you're solo but kind of annoying if you're grouped.

If you are struggling with this location or any other location around your level I have a few things that you could do to hopefully fix that. First and foremost you will want to upgrade your gear if you're still using Defiant Gear. There are a ton of Attuneable items that you can find in The Bazaar, I recommend you buy the ones that are upgrades and equip them. If you want some help finding these items I highly recommend you use my Bazaar Gear Buying Guide (65+). The second and probably most important thing you can do is get all of the important AAs for your Class. To figure out what AAs are the most important AAs to get I recommend you read over my Everquest AA Placement Guide.

With better gear and all of the important AAs you will notice a gigantic difference in your character and what they are capable of.
