EQ Leveling Guide

***Notice*** Everyone reading this guide in 2018 or later should note that this guide was written in 2009 or so when Underfoot was the current expansion pack. As you can imagine a lot has changed in the game since that time and some of what you read in this guide may be inaccurate or misleading. This page *does* still have some useful info which is why my newer leveling guides link here - but you should understand that most of the information here is outdated, I've taken what's correct and incorporated it into my newer leveling guides.

If you're here from one of my older links then head over to my new Everquest Leveling Guides Index page as you'll find guides for each expansion for you to choose from. I strongly urge you to use these newer leveling guides instead.

Now that you're level 48 head to The Bazaar if you got some extra cash lying around and buy some Intricate Defiant gear and anything else you can afford. If you're not a healer grab a healing merc so you or your pet can start tanking. Now that you've got some better gear head to Plane of Tranquility. Once you're in Plane of Tranquility your options are pretty open.

Usually SoE tries to keep a Hotzone in the Planes, if there is one there head to it and try to find a group. If you can't I usually start in Plane of Justice (PoJ) It's the big grail thing on the side of the cliff in the middle of the zone. See pictures below for the location

Once you're in PoJ head down to the lower level. (To the right of where you came in there will be a stair case that will take you down.) Down here you'll find a bunch of Dark Blue and Light Blue mobs that are not KoS to you. Stay on this level and kill the mobs, the lower you go the harder they get. Something to keep in mind here is to stay LFG. Type /lfg and set it up how you like it.

A good strategy is to pull two Sentries to the zoneline (Look at the 1 on my map for a location to where it is) kill them then pick off the rats in the hall. While you're waiting for these mobs to respawn kill the prisoners that are being held captive in all the rooms off the hall.

Once you're level 50 your options open up even further. You can jump out of all of the planes and go to the current hot zone or you can stay in the planes. The following planes are good for your level;

Plane of Innovation
Plane of Justice

Additional Places to Level for all Level Ranges

My suggestion is going to your hotzone and trying to find a group. Try the level 50 and 55 hotzone, maybe even 60 if you're a healer. If not just hang out in the planes until level 55. Also around this level it's very important depending on your class that you stop for some crucial AAs. If you're curious what AAs you should stop for early on check out my AA guide.

If you are struggling with this location or any other location around your level I have a few things that you could do to hopefully fix that. First and foremost you will want to upgrade your gear if you're still using Defiant Gear. There are a ton of Attunable items that you can find in The Bazaar, I recommend you buy the ones that are upgrades and equip them. If you want some help finding these items I highly recommend you use my Bazaar Gear Buying Guide (65+). The second and probably most important thing you can do is get all of the important AAs for your Class. To figure out what AAs are the most important AAs to get I recommend you read over my Everquest AA Placement Guide.

With better gear and all of the important AAs you will notice a gigantic difference in your character and what they are capable of.

Once you're level 50 it's probably best that you left PoJ as well. The next plane that I usually go to is Plane of Innovation. Stick to the zoneline in PoI and try to only pull one at a time. At level 50 these will be hard for you to tank, if you have a tank merc he can easily solo them. After about level 52 or 53 you can start venturing back into the zone, but be wary of Junk Beast, he isn't the friendliest creature in the world.

In Plane of Innovation you'll find a lot of No-drop item's that you'll have no freaking clue what they're for. Visit my Plane of Innovation zone guide to learn more about these items, the guide can be found here.
