3 Badges Side Quest - Xenogears

One of the first 'side quests' available to us in the game includes collecting 3 badges from a few different towns in the first half of the game. These badges won't serve any purpose until you're almost at the end of Disc 1 when you can turn them in at a town you visit for some items. Most people consider the items you get from this quest to be mediocre at best since you get them so late in the game... That said, you don't have to go out of your way very much for any of these badges so it's up to you if you'd like to do it.

I'll put information about where these badges are turned in and what you'll get at the bottom of the page. Just incase anyone doesn't want spoilers, I will save it for last.

Rock, Paper, Scissors Badge (Lahan)

Lahan Rock Paper Scissors Guy

You can get the very first of these badges at the start of the game in Lahan. There is someone who wants to play rock paper scissors with you, if you win 5 times in a row you'll get the badge as a reward. My biggest piece of advice for beating this challenge is to use save states... The internet also came up with one trick that does help too.

After you win a round against him, he won't use the same option that he just lost with. If he loses with Rock, he usually won't use Rock again during the very next round. When you reach round 4 this resets though and it is random.

Hide & Seek Badge (Bledavik)

Hide and Seek Badge Start

Our second badge is found in the town of Bledavik, this badge requires us to play hide and seek with a kid. To begin this side quest, go to the northern set of stairs in South Bledavik and then go west into the alley. If you talk to the lady who is selling items here out front of the alley, she'll accuse a child of stealing and he'll run up this alley. This event is probably only available during your first time in this town when you come here for the tournament.

When you follow the kid into the alley, there will be another child standing in a corner (pictured above). This is the Hide & Seek kid, speak with him and agree to 'Play' to start the mini game. Switch screens and the kid will go to the first location on the list below. Each time you find the kid at one of these locations, switch screens and he will go to the next location.

Hide & Seek Locations:

1. By the northern exit, spin the camera when you go through the arch to see him.
2. In the southwest behind the barrels by the Ethos Workshop (Gear Shop).
3. Western part of town, go to the floor above the restaurants and you can find him in a narrow hallway which leads to a house.
4. The last hiding spot is in the northeast by the entrance of South Bledavik. He's difficult to see here since he is standing in a bit of a blind spot.

The Hide & Seek kid is actually part of the main story too, you'll need to find him to learn about his experience falling down the well. All of this takes place during Chapter 1 of my Walkthrough. Below I have included pictures of each hiding location and where he is found to help you locate him. If you need help seeing a picture, click to enlarge it.

Tag Badge

The final badge is obtained at the Orphanage, an area you'll visit around the middle of the game. You'll find a square fence here with a crow standing inside, talk to him. Agree to help him gather the nearby chickens and bring them to the fenced in area that he's standing in. You will need to run around and find 3 chickens in town, use X to interact with them and make them follow you for a short distance. Once they stop you need to run back to them and press X again to make them follow you once more.

Rinse and repeat 5 - 6 times per chicken and you will get them to the run area that the guy is standing in. Once you're done speak with him and you'll get the Tag Badge.

Turning The Badges In

All 3 of the badges are turned in at a town called Shevat; you'll reach this town about 3/4 of the way through Disc 1. Search the Aphel Aura portion of Shevat for a small room with a bunch of Chu-Chus (pictured below). Talk with the green/white Chu-Chu and you can trade them your badges for a Charger A and Power Ring S.

Note: If you plan on doing the 3 Rocks Side Quest in Shevat you'll want to talk with the pink Chu-Chu that you see in the picture above too.
