Xenogears Walkthrough - Chapter 2

After rescuing Margie and talking to Sigurd to gain control of the Yggdrasil you'll want to visit the Road to Nisan next. You'll find this location to the north of Bart's Hideout, there is a lone tree sitting on the World Map which you can interact with. If you're having trouble finding it look for the yellow boxes on your mini map in the bottom right when you're on the World Map.

There will be some more scenes when you enter the Road to Nisan area, after which you'll regain control of your team inside of Nisan. You'll be on a screen similar to what we saw when entering Aveh before (it's a 'World Map' of the city), head to the first green arrow marked Nisan and enter. You can do as much exploring and shopping as you want, but to advance the story you'll want to talk with Margie in the northern part of this town and then talk to the guy standing below the arch blocking the way forward. He'll tell you to take Margie to the sisters in the next part of town, so follow Margie there.

When you arrive there will be a scene with Margie and the sisters after which you'll need to follow her to her room in the northeast. Keep following her and talking to her for more scenes. After you view the painting exit the room and go into the door to the south, Margie is here with Sister Agnes for you to talk to.

Once you've spoken to Agnes you're done in the church for the time being, return to town and find Maison standing outside of a house. He'll call you over when you get near him. Speak with him then head inside the building to speak with Sigurd to learn a lot about their history and Solaris.

Bart will leave the building, follow him and speak to him in town (he's standing on a bridge) then go to the Town Hall for more scenes. You can find the Town Hall across from the shop in town. Speaking of the shop, they sell an EtherDoubler item for 38,000 which is worth buying as soon as you can afford it. Upon entering the Town Hall you'll get another batch of scenes, when they're done talk with Bart to continue the story (and to get more scenes).

Now you'll find yourself in control of Citan; speak with Maison then go upstairs to the bridge for some more scenes. You will finally regain control of Fei inside his Gear near a large climbable mountain (pictured below).

Fei At The Rockies

There are two treasures we can find in this area, Extra Ar +2 and Magneticcoat, both are found on the right hand side of this area. In order to reach the mountain entrance we need, you'll have to make a running jump near the top of the area. The Magneticcoat is found in the same area with the rock you need to jump off of.

Tip: If it feels like you don't get the needed height to make the jump while running, keep holding your sprint & jump button until you're noticeably in the air. Letting go of sprint too soon will result in you losing some momentum while jumping and letting go of jump will cause you to lose height.

In the next area you'll find a bunch more jumping that we need to do, our goal is to keep going up to the top which is where you'll find another exit for us to use. Next to that exit will be a Memory Cube for saving and a Gear which we can purchase parts or refuel at. I strongly encourage you to fuel up again before continuing to the next area because there's a boss fight waiting. It'll be multiple fights against other Gears back to back. Honestly it's not too hard, assuming you have the fuel for it. I'd strongly recommend you use Booster early on in these fights because you'll lose HP faster than fuel if you don't.

After beating Elly you should refuel/heal at the Repair Bot in the cave, from here travel up again jumping from platform to platform until you reach another exit. Fei will mention the mountain peak is close and then you'll switch perspectives to Bart. Head up the ladder with Bart for another scene; when that scene is finished exit the room to switch perspective back to Fei.

For this next part you'll have to move west across a desert towards the ship. You should avoid gears, mines and the energy balls coming at you as best you can. There will be two events like this, when the first one ends there will be some dialogue then you'll do another approach to reach the ship. When you reach the ship there will be a boss battle. You should use Booster at the start of the boss battle against a gun on the ship, especially if you got into a few battles on the way here.

Once you've beaten the ship's gun you'll fight against the Dora, a Gear. Use Booster again (if you have the fuel) and beat it down as quick as you can. The perspective will switch back to Bart who will fight an unbeatable boss. After the fight you'll get more scenes, eventually you'll regain control of Fei in Nortune, the Kislev capital city.

Nortune D Block

Shortly after waking up as Fei you'll have to deal with a group of ruffians who want to set a pecking order. You'll have 5 fights in total, how many you beat determines your rank in jail. Your rank changes the dialogue and it also gets you better prices in some instances. The current Champ, Rico, is a battle you can't win.. but if you make it that far you'll get a fight with him.

When you finally get full control of Fei, you'll be able to roam around the prison camp that he's currently stuck in. To advance the story you'll want to find the bar and speak with the "Beastoid Man" who talks every time you enter the room. He'll introduce himself as Hammer, he sells items and also gives us story updates. Our next step is to try and exit the prison grounds in the northeast and a guard will intercept you and tell you that people are looking for you. Return to the bar where we met Hammer for some scenes with Rue Cohen.

After speaking with Rue Cohen you'll want to head back to the hospital/dorm building where we first woke up. Hammer will be here too and you'll both go downstairs to meet the new doctor together... turns out, it's Citan! He will offer to remove the bomb around your neck, accept this offer. For this part sometimes Citan will remove a portion of the bomb and other times Fei will have a premonition and stop Citan. If he removes a portion of the bomb Hammer will offer to buy it for an amount dependant on your rank and some RNG.

Hammer will also sign you up for the arena, to get there you'll need to exit D-block to the northeast. Go past the one guard that is blocking the path and you will find yourself on a large city map, the only area available at the moment is C Block. Enter C Block and you'll immediately get a scene with Rue; talk with her again to be taken to your Gear... which turns out to be Weltall!

For this next part of the game we'll have to do a fighting game style match with another mech. You'll have the chance to read the controls and even do a practice round before the real thing, prep as much as you'd like before the fight.

Weltall Mech Battle

I found this first fight to be extremely easy, when I got Ganador's health to 25% my Gear broke down and the fight concluded with some more scenes. When you regain control of Fei, return to C Block again and enter yourself back into the tournament. You can face two enemies before having to return to D Block and rest again, then you'll return to fight two more enemies. Return to D Block and rest again, when you wake up this time Rico will be waiting for you.

Rico tells you about some murders in the sewers, remember that dream Fei had? Well, you get roped into helping him... He will join your party and you're off to the sewers. In order to reach the sewers you'll want to climb up the red ladder on the west side of the building you have been spending the night in. The ladder is found outside and it leads to the roof, which makes perfect sense because we want to access the sewers?? When you go up the ladder continue north until you find the open sewer entrance.

Tip: Before you enter the Sewers you should stock up on 15+ Zetasol items along with some restorative items too. Some of the enemies in this upcoming dungeon have attacks that bring you down to 1 HP and others have attacks that deal hundreds of damage. The upcoming boss has an attack that will instantly kill one party member too. Suffice to say, you'll be healing/rezzing characters a lot.

The sewers are a maze, which is what you'd normally expect from a sewer dungeon. Our goal is to locate the murder sites and then the boss Redrum. Near the entrance you'll find a Kislev Map inside of a chest which will make navigating this dungeon a lot easier. This map isn't the greatest, but it's better than nothing.

Below is the best map I could find of this dungeon online. I think this map is a bit better than the ingame one, you can use both or whatever one you wish.

Map of the Sewers
Full credit goes to the OG author and post on Gamefaqs.

After finding the murder locations on the first floor, climb down the ladder nearby where we found the Kislev Map to explore the second part of the sewers. There is one murder site on the second floor and a mandatory item we need to get from the "Catless Rat Sweeper"; after getting dialogue with the rat sweeper inspect it a second time for Keys. We need these keys for completing the sewers... so be sure to pick them up!

With the keys in hand, look for the area with the two red doors on this floor of the sewers. This will lead to a new area of the sewers where you'll find an old man who is completely green. You can talk to him and he'll tell you to use your Keys on the room next to the Waterfall (this is our next stop). From the old man you'll want to travel due east to the Sewage Treatment Plant. If you got the Kislev Map on the previous level, press Select to open it. On the right hand side of the map you'll see a small room (pictured below). This is where you want to go.

On the picture below, I have circled the Sewage Treatment Plant in a red box to show you what you're looking for.

Sewer Map Sewage Treatment Room

Inside the Sewage Treatment Plant you'll find a chest that contains the Bell Amulet. You can actually jump up the pipes in this room too, there is a chest at the top which contains an Ether Veiler. Now for the boss fight of this dungeon, we'll need to find a drain nearby that has slime but no murder site, this location is also marked on the picture above (Summon Boss Here).

Redrum is the name of the boss we're fighting and it'll be the most difficult boss up to this point. He can confuse people, poison people and also one shot them with his Murder ability. You'll have to use a lot of Zetasol items to revive people after they're hit by this attack. One tip is to use Renki on Citan, it's an Eth ability that makes the next Eth ability you cast affect everyone. So you can turn a single target heal into a group heal when using this.

All in all, so long as you keep rezzing people with Zetasol the fight shouldn't be too hard. If you fall behind with rezzing it can get out of control pretty quickly though. Some parts of this fight are RNG too, he may use Murder more for you one time and not another time. In order words, if you fail--try try again!

When the fight is over you'll get a few scenes, once they're done return to where you sleep at with Fei for another scene with Rico. After you've rested it's time to return to C Block and complete the Semi-Finals. We have 3 Gear fights to do this time before we can advance. Clear the Semi Finals then leave C Block for another scene, you'll be interrupted during this scene by Wiseman from the tournament back in Aveh.

The fight with Wiseman isn't one you need to win, but you can by using your strongest Deathblows against him repeatedly. When the fight concludes you'll get an explanation about who Fei is and who his dad is along with a bit more useful back story. Once you regain control of Fei, return to C Block once again and enter into the finals.

Rico's Gear is named Stier and it's the first difficult fight in this arena. Once you beat Stier you'll get some scenes after which you will regain control of Fei in the Champ's Room. This room is in the bar where you met Hammer and Rue for the first time. If you'd like you can sell your monster parts for better prices, make some purchases or head straight for our next story goal.

Exit D Block and head over to the Central District of Kislev (pictured below); it's hard to miss because it's a big red building right in the middle of the city.

Kislev Central District

When you arrive at the government building talk with the two guards and they'll lead you to an elevator, ride that up to the next floor then go west to reach the room with Sigmund (who we need to talk to). Not long after meeting Sigmund, Rico will come crashing through the ceiling and then run away. After the scenes finish you'll join up with him on Fei in the bedroom. While you're here inspect the desk with the mirror for a Momento Locket. You can equip this onto Rico, you can also mess with his Gear right now if you'd like. Equip upgrades on it before we use it for battle sort of thing.

Exiting the room will get you another scene with Rico, during which he'll leave your party. From here all we need to do is exit the building and we'll automatically be sent to Hammer's location. After the conversation with Hammer leave the area we're in and return to D Block. Not far into D Block you'll be intercepted by a group who asks to talk to you privately.

After the conversation make sure you rest to advance time, then exit the Champ's room and head over to the train station. The train station is in the same area as the sewers, go up the same red ladder you took to the sewers, this time though you'll go in the opposite direction. Climb up the second ladder on the boxes to reach the tower with the Amazoness. Shortly after talking to her the train will come by, so be prepared to jump! If you fail you'll start over before climbing up the ladder to the tower. Speaking with the Amazoness is required each time to trigger the train.

Landing on it isn't too hard, aim for the storage cars on it, if you jump too soon you'll just slide off. Once on the train you'll have to run forward a few times as the train cars detach, thankfully you'll automatically jump off when you reach the air ducts though. When you regain control of Fei you'll want to jump up onto the crate then to the other areas above, this will lead you to an air duct that we need (pictured below).

Air Duct Entrance Below D Block
Jump onto the crate then into the air duct opening above it.

The air vents look confusing at first but they're actually pretty straight forward since they have many dead ends. As you advance through you'll reach a room with an air duct exit up above on some boxes (just like yours). In order to get to that air duct you'll have to drop down and move a box so you can reach the crates on the other side. There will be another box in this area that will give you a Beam Coat when you interact with it (you need the Master Key to open it).

Shortly after this room you'll find an area where you get a scene with two guards putting the Master Key back on the shelf. We need to get this item so make sure you pick it up once the scene is done. When you get the Master Key, you'll also get Frame HP30 along with it. Now that we have the Master Key you'll want to find your way back to the first room we started in with the locked door. Use the Master Key on the little terminal next to it then go through the door. There will be a SurvivalTent item in the stairwell, grab that and head through the next door into the Gear Hangar.

The Gear that is a different color and moving is a shop. You should upgrade Weltall's Engine here and anything else you want. When you're ready to bring Weltall down you'll want to press the eastern most button (the one blinking blue/purple) three times. Each time you press it a new Gear will cycle in, when you see Weltall get inside.

Tip: Make sure you refuel and gear Weltall. Equip better accessories on him (like the Frame HP30) and make sure he is in tip top shape. The battle coming up is going to be difficult.

Circle around to the elevator on the other side and ride it up to get some scenes followed by our next boss battle. We'll be fighting a Rankar in our Gear first, it's a very easy fight. After the Rankar you'll have some more scenes and then more fights in your Gear. These next few fights are going to be pretty difficult if you haven't upgraded your Gear in the previous area. One thing that you may want to consider equipping is a Beam Coat, this will make your Gear immune to some attacks for some of the upcoming boss fights.

After beating Elly's squadron you'll have some scenes with her after which you'll be asked to save your game. You can use this time to heal up and equip Beam Coats if you forgot earlier, the next boss will be using attacks that the coat helps with. If you have Beam Coats on the fight is pretty easy, just spam your best Deathblows on her until she is defeated. More scenes, after which you'll regain control of Fei in D Block. One exit that's protected by guards will give you an option to break through, choose this for a short scene with Rico where he joins your party.

To Switch Party Members: Return to Wildcat's waitress in D Block and talk to her, she will let you swap out your party members. A bit convoluted, right? This changes later on, they add something like a Memory Cube that lets you swap party members easier.

When you're ready to continue with the story, exit to the World Map and run north to Goliath Factory (pictured below). I recommend you do a little grinding outside of Nortune to get Elly (or Rico) some Deathblows. You should also equip them with better equipment, Elly could definitely use some new accessories. My team going forward was Fei, Citan and Elly.

Goliath Factory on World Map

When you enter the Goliath Factory, if you aren't already you'll want to switch to your Gears. Not very far into the Goliath Factory you'll find Hammer riding a mech, you can buy stuff from him or change your party members here. I strongly recommend upgrading everything you can for your active party. Continue through the door in the north when you're done with Hammer. The next few areas are very linear, just clear your way with your Gears.

Eventually you'll ride an elevator up to a conveyor belt and that belt will carry you into a new area. You'll need to press the button on the wall in this room to reverse the conveyor belt, ride it again to the next area. In this room you will want to press the button with a blinking blue light below the conveyor belt that's going up. This conveyor belt leads to another room with 3 buttons that have blinking blue lights. Hit all 3 and you'll get two chests, one with Mica and one with Gold Nugget. Make sure you're ready before you continue, riding the next conveyor belt will take you to a boss named Fis-6.

This boss has an annoying skill where he will summon mechanics to aid in battle. It's best to handle these with Elly's AoE attacks (her Eth attacks). For me, I went all in on the boss spamming my strongest Deathblows until it went down. Defeating Fis-6 will get you some scenes, talk to everyone in the cockpit then talk with Citan to trigger more scenes and another boss fight.

Grahf is a difficult fight, but it's one where it doesn't matter if you win or lose. The outcome will still be the same. After all the scenes, when you regain control of Elly open the red hatch nearby to find Fei. Next, you'll find yourself in control of Citan and Rico. We have a little bit of running around and talking to people in order to advance the story again.

1. Talk with Bart on the Yggdrasil's bridge
2. Watch scenes with Fei and Elly
3. Speak with Rico in the Gear Hangar, interact with the back of Stier for the scene with his Gear Mechanic.
4. Find Citan in the Gear Hangar's Shop and talk with him next
5. More scenes with Fei and Elly

When you finally regain control of Fei you'll be on the Thames, a salvage ship which is the size of a city. You will start on the Armor Ground aka the top of the ship, this is where the vendors are found. I strongly suggest you buy some new stuff from these vendors, they have upgrades for everyone. Exit the area when you're done and you'll find yourself on the ship's "World Map". There are items to find in multiple areas if you'd like to do some exploring.

In the Supply Entrance Area you can find four chests, it'll require some jumping and thinking to get them. They contain Serpent GWhip, D Circuit, Lunar Rod and Mica. There's also a kid in the NW corner of this area who will challenge you to a game of Speed, if you win you'll get Super Goggles. There is a yellow hair guy looking out the window in the Beer Hall you can challenge to a game of Speed too, victory will get you Premier Shoes.

Once you're done exploring the ship and ready to advance the game, you'll want to head to the Thames Bridge and speak with the captain (pictured below). To reach the Bridge that he is on visit the Screw Elevator and ride it up to (4F) Bridge.

Captain of the Thames

During your scenes with the Captain, you'll have to follow him to the Beer Hall and speak with him again. The Yggdrasil II will be attacked during this scene. Before you rush to aid it you should hit up the Gear shop that's outside of the Supply Entrance on this ship. You'll want to buy new Engines, Frames and Armor for everyone's mechs. I also recommend you refuel everyone when you're done so that they're all topped off. If you run out of money sell some of your old stuff.

Buying Frame HP50 for everyone isn't a bad idea either. These accessories will consume Fuel but in exchange they'll heal your Gears. When you're done shopping and ready to continue ride the Screw Elevator back up to (1F) Deck and board your Gears. Fei and Elly will depart for Yggdrasil, there will be some scenes followed by a boss fight.

This time you'll be fighting against Dominia in her Haishao Gear. Use Booster on everyone and spam your hardest hitting Deathblows. If you get low on Hp use the Frame HP50/Frame HP30--whichever of the two you own. Once beaten there will be more scenes before you regain control of Fei on the Yggdrasil. If you'd like to switch party members speak with Margie on the Yggdrasil, to advance the story you'll need to visit the Beer Hall on the Thames which is where Bart is.

Our next stop is the Engine Room on the Yggdrasil for some more scenes. You can find the Engine Room in the same big room with Maison (they call it the Gun Room on the ship). From the room with Maison go down the spiral stairs and exit the room by running north. It's hard to see where you're going because the second floor of this room blocks all visuals.

Inside the Engine Room you'll get a scene with Elly after which you'll want to talk with Citan and Bart a couple of times until you regain control of Fei in the Gun Room. Before we continue, this is the last chance we have to upgrade our Gears before the next battle. I strongly encourage you to upgrade Bart's Gear if you didn't earlier since it's really lacking. When you're ready to proceed with the story visit the nurse station on the Yggdrasil (it's down the hall from the Gun Room, first door on the left) and talk with Elly.

After the conversation with Elly you'll be given one last chance to alter the equipment on your Gears. Once you close the menu you'll be getting two back to back boss battles. For the first fight you should avoid using Booster, instead conserve fuel for the next battle. I do recommend you use Bart's skill Wild Smile though to reduce the accuracy/evasion of your opponent. It helps for this battle and the next one.

Ramsus is who we'll be fighting next and his fight works similarly to how it did on land. Miang will remove status/heal Ramsus throughout the fight and occasionally Ramsus will go into Mirror Stance, hitting him in Mirror Stance will make him counter with a very powerful attack that hits your whole party. Using Bart's Wild Smile on Ramsus will make Miang repeatedly cure his status instead of healing him. You can use this trick as a way to keep Miang occupied.

You don't really defeat Ramsus, but once you deal 5k damage to him the fight will end. Fei will be inactive for awhile so in the mean time you'll be controlling Elly as your party leader. Our first stop will be the Armor Ground area on the Thames. Ride the Screw Elevator to the (1F) Deck and then enter Armor Ground. There will be a few scenes here, during them you'll meet a few new characters who are part of one big happy family.

Jesiah Insulting Doc

Billy offers to introduce us at the Ethos Headquarters, which solves our current problem. When the scene is over you'll want to hit up the vendor here and purchase any upgrades you may still need for Citan, Bart or Rico. If they don't have Penguin Coats you'll probably want to get each of them one.

To advance the story you'll want to return to the Yggdrasil and talk with Sigurd in the control room/helm of the ship. For the first time in awhile we will have access to a large portion of the World Map. You should notice 3 new locations on your map, all in the bottom left cluster of islands. The north dot is our next destination, the eastern dot is the Orphanage which we'll need to visit later, going now is optional.

If you'd like to get your hands on a powerful item right now you should return to Nisan and purchase the EtherDoubler item. You really only need one of these and I would put it onto Elly since she has AoE attacks and most of the offensive Eth. To disembark onto the World Map from the Yggdrasil II you'll need to find a beach to drive up. If you want to go to Nisan there's a beach on the southern end of the continent, you can literally drive the Yggdrasil II right up it and across the sand.

Tip: Every time you go back to the bridge on the Yggdrasil (pressing Square) you will restore your HP/Fuel of your Gears.
