Card Mods and Item Refinements Prior to Timber Mission - FF8 Guide

Just before the Timber Mission you're going to have some amazing refinement opportunities available to you. The Zell Card, Quistis Card and Diablos Card all make excellent Card Mods and they serve as a great introduction to new players of how powerful you can make your characters very early on by knowing exactly what to do.

Even if you hate the Triple Triad Card Game to no end and would prefer to completely avoid it - you need to take 10 minutes out of your time and get the Zell Card. Str+60% at this stage of the game is so insanely powerful it's not even funny - you'll cut through all enemies like butter until midway through Disc 2.

 

Item Refinement:

Zell Card: Hyper Wrist (Teaches Str +60% to a GF; Level 10 required)

Best GFs to use Hyper Wrist on:
Shiva, Ifrit and Quezacotl: These 3 GFs are commonly separated in each build, some people recommend pairing at least one of them though
Shiva, Carbuncle, Quezacotl: These 3 GFs have to remain separate at all times since they're the only 3 GFs with Vit-J. That makes these the safest choice for these sorts of items

(ST Mag-RF) Tri-Face Card: Curse Spike - 10 Pain

(Time Mag-RF) Armadodo Card: Dino Bone: 20 Quake

(Time Mag-RF) 2 T-Rexaur Card: Dino Bone - 20 Quake

(L Mag-RF) Mesmerize Card: Mesmerize Blade - 20 Regen

(L Mag-RF) Tonberry Card: Chef's Knife - 30 Death

(L Mag-RF) Tonberry King Card: Chef's Knife - 30 Death

(L Mag-RF) Belhelmel Card: Saw Blade - 10 Death

(L Mag-RF) Tent: 10 Curaga

(ST Mag-RF) Cockatrice Card: Cockatrice Pinion - 20 Break

(ST Mag-RF) Blitz Card: Betrayal Sword - 20 Confuse
