Materia Caves - FF7 Walkthrough

The Materia Caves are four locations in Final Fantasy 7 which can only be accessed with the colored Chocobos that you get through the Chocobo Breeding Side Quest or from completing the Kalm Traveler Side Quest. These four locations give you unique Materia that you can't acquire anywhere else, two of which are extremely famous.

Below is a succinct list of all four Materia Caves and the required Chocobos to reach them.

Quadra Magic Materia Cave: Blue, Black or Gold Chocobo

Mime Materia Cave: Green, Black or Gold Chocobo

HP <-> MP Materia Cave: Black or Gold Chocobo

Knights of the Round Materia Cave: Gold Chocobo

Quadra Magic Materia Cave Location

Required Chocobo: Blue, Black or Gold

You can find the Materia Cave with Quadra Magic in it on a slim piece of land in the eastern portion of the World Map. Land your Airship around Mideel and ride the Chocobo northeast until you find yourself at the same spot you see me standing in the above screenshots.

 

Mime Materia Cave Location

Required Chocobo: Green, Black or Gold

The Materia Cave with Mime inside of it is found on the western most land mass, same place as you can find Wutai. You'll want to land the Airship around Wutai and ride the Chocobo to this location from there, unless you have a Black Chocobo then land it by Rocket Town and ride from there.

 

Hp <-> Mp Materia Cave Location

Required Chocobo: Black or Gold Chocobo

You'll find the HP <-> MP Materia, also known as HP/MP Swap in a cave near the entrance to Mount Corel. This is the one cave you probably saw while completing the game's story but were unable to reach before now. It's extremely easy to find, just use my map on this page if you need additional guidance.

 

Knights of the Round Materia Cave Location

Required Chocobo: Gold Chocobo

Last but not least you have the most powerful summon in the entire game, Knights of the Round. You'll find this Materia on a small island not shown on the World Map in the far northeastern most corner (upper right corner).
