Chateau de Sass & Best-Dressed Contest Guide - Dragon Quest 6
Château de Sass is a small town in the northwestern portion of the Real World which can only be accessed by air (if you can fly over mountains) or by an underwater tunnel using Lorelei's Harp. This town is where the Best-Dressed Contest aka Fashion Show takes place.
The Fashion Show uses the 'Style' attribute that you get from your equipment and will reward you with prices depending on your current Style rank. In order to increase your Style you will want to equip specific pieces of gear that give you high Style points such as the Platinum Gear or the Legendary Gear.
You can also increase how much Style you get from each piece of gear as well by visiting the Fashion Forge at the southern end of the Real World map. There is a string of islands down here and the Fashion Forge is found on the central one. Once you visit this location you'll be able to Zoom here by selecting the 'Fashion Forge' from the list of Zoom locations.
There are other ways you can increase your Style too such as by speaking with the Bunny Lady in Turnscote (pictured below) for a one time 5 Style upgrade and by using Pretty Betsy items which you get throughout the game for 1 Style each.
Fashion Forge to increase Style & private Pattycake to increase Style.
You'll find the Bunny Lady pictured above in the same building we originally found Mo the Mole in/the same building the Magic Key Door is found in. As for the Fashion Forge, expect each Style upgrade to cost you a lot of gold, for that reason you should only upgrade the items you're positive you plan to use in the Best-Dressed Contest... Or plan to grind longer for more gold.
In addition to the above ways to increase your Style you can also increase it by raising the Luminary Vocation to max. While your character is a Luminary they'll receive an additional 15% Style and mastering the Luminary Vocation will give you a permanent bonus of +15 Style Points. Luminary isn't the only Vocation that changes your Style either...
Vocations that Alter Style:
1. Thief & Merchant -20% Style
2. Dancer & Hero +10% Style
3. Gadabouts +5% Style
4. Luminary +15% Style (& +15 Style Mastery Bonus)
Note: To unlock Luminary you'll need to master the Gadabout and Dancer Vocations.
Each rank of the Fashion Stage is split up by Gender, Men can participate in the majority of ranks, Women can participate in one and there is one rank for Monsters. Sadly the hardest one to complete of them all is Rank 7 which is the one with the best reward (Sage's Stone) since it requires you to enter on a monster.
Your best choice when it comes to entering a monster is to use Goowain. In order for Goowain to win the contest you'll need some of the most stylish equipment in the entire game and to grind him A LOT. Goowain will need to max the Luminary Vocation to stand a chance of winning the Sage's Stone which means you'll have to grind a couple hundred battles with him.
What I recommend is you take out two birds with one stone and grind Goowain's Dancer, Gadabout and Luminary vocations while getting him EXP for the Slimopolis Side Quest. To complete each rank of Slimopolis you'll need Goowain to be levels 35 - 40 anyway.

Once you complete rank 7 of the contest Kingsley, an optional party member will join your party if you speak to him.
As mentioned earlier in the guide, aside from the gear you equip you can also raise your Style in a few different ways. Below you'll find a list of all the ways you can permanently increase your style for your characters that don't involve you constantly rotating through all of your gear. I mention all of this earlier in the guide but I prefer this format for quick referencing.
Permanent Style Boosts:
1. Fashion Forge (Southern end of Real World; he upgrades gear for Gold)
2. Private Pattycake Session in Turnscote
3. Pretty Betsy Items
4. Luminary Vocation (Master it + having it active both give Style)
Last but not least I will cover all of the different gear sets in the game and different gear combinations that you can use to win the contest.
Fashion Show Tips & Tricks + Gear to Wear:
Sword of Miracles & Sacred Armour (+40 Style): You'll receive both of these as rewards from the Mini Medal Side Quest.
Bunny Girl Set (+50 Style): Bunny Suit, Bunny Ears, Silver Platter and Fishnet Stockings comprise this set. The Bunny Suit can be purchased in Turnscote, Bunny Ears from Weaver's Peak and the Fishnet Stockings can be purchased from a vendor inside of a well south of Alltrades Abbey (Dream World). Bottom of my Walkthrough Chapter 7 shows the exact location.
Solar Fan + Dancer's Clothes (+40 Style): You can purchase the Solar Fan from Despairia later in the game and the Dancer's Costume from Somnia.
Shimmering Dress + Silver Tiara + Pink Pearl (+60 Style): Shimmering Dress is a reward for winning Rank 6 of the Best-Dressed Contest and the Silver Tiara is sold in Ghent, Aridea and Clearvale. Pink Pearl can be purchased in Pescado and Seabed Shrine.
Shimmering Dress + Silver Tiara + Glass Slippers (+65 Style): Shimmering Dress is a reward for winning Rank 6 of the Best-Dressed Contest and the Silver Tiara is sold in Ghent, Aridea and Clearvale. Glass Slippers can be obtained from the Best-Dressed Contest or found in a treasure chest.
Slime Helmet + Slime Armour (+10 Style): Both of these items can only be equipped by slime monsters or Nevan. Slime Helmet is purchased in the Well shop south of Alltrades Abbey. For the exact location of the Well Shop check out the bottom of my Walkthrough Chapter 7 shows the exact location. Slime Armour is found in Slimopolis.
Hela's Hammer + Hela's Armour (+10 Style): Hela's Hammer is purchased in Greedmore towards the end of the game. Hela's Armour is found on the Mobile Island in Dream World; it's behind a locked door which can only be open with the Ultimate Key.
Dragonsbane + Dragon Shield + Dragon Mail (+15 Style): Dragonsbane is found in the Pillar of Pegasus dungeon. Dragon Sheild can be purchased from the casinos in Port Haven or Turnscote. Dragon Mail can be purchased from the Well shop south of Alltrades Abbey. For the exact location of the Well Shop check out the bottom of my Walkthrough Chapter 7 shows the exact location.
Ogre Shield + Gigant Armour (+20 Style): You can purchase the Ogre Shield in Despairia, a town in the Dread Realm. Gigant Armour can be purchased in Despairia and Greedmore Valley.
Fire Blade + Flame Shield + Flame Armour (+20 Style): You can purchase Fire Blade and Flame Armour from the Well Shop south of Alltrades Abbey. Flame Shield can be purchased in Felonia.
Silk Tuxedo + Bow Tie (+25 Style): The Silk Tuxedo can be purchased at the Port Haven Casino for 500 Casino Tokens. Bow Tie can be purchased in Turnscote.
Metal King Sword + Metal King Helm + Metal King Shield + Metal King Armour (+30 Style): The Metal King Sword can be found on floor 5 of Mortamor's Dreadlair. Metal King Helm is obtained from turning in 70 Medals in the Mini Medal Side Quest. Metal King Shield is obtained from the Slimopolis Side Quest. Metal King Armour can be purchased from the Greedmore Valley Casino for 150,000 Tokens.
Sunderbolt Blade + Tempest Shield (+35 Style): You can find the Tempest Shield in the treasurey of Castle Graceskull. Terry joins your party with the Sunderbolt Blade equipped.
Golden Tiara + Princess Robe (+50 Style): The Golden Tiara and Princess Robe are both found in Mortamor's Dreadlair.
Hero's Legendary Gear - Sword of Ramias + Helm of Sebath + Shield of Valora + Armour of Orgo (+15 Style): This is the entire Hero's Legendary Armor Set. When wearing every piece of the Hero's Set you'll get a bonus of +15 Style. While it isn't much, the set as a whole gives you a lot of Style too.
Platinum Set (+50 Style): Requires the Platinum Sword, Platinum Shield, Platinum Mail & Platinum Headgear which you get for winning Rank 5 of the Fashion Show.
Gear Combinations To Use:
This section will go over different sets and gear combinations to use to achieve your goals. I'd recommend you only use the Hero, Milly and Goowain in the Best Dressed Contest since these characters come with the highest innate Style. Additionally you'll want to master the Luminary occupation on your Hero and Goowain if you plan to win every round.
Goowain is required for the Sage's Stone round and the Hero is the easiest character to get extremely high Style on. If you plan to collect all 100 Mini Medals, Milly is pretty easy to get Style on too since the reward for all the Mini Medals is an item that gives 100 Style to girls.
Hero Style Gear Choices
Miracle Sword (51) + Sacred Armour (55): These two items combined will give you a total of 146 Style. Both are obtained from the Mini Medal Side Quest
Dragon Shield (47): Purchase from Port Haven's Casino for 2000 Tokens
Thinking Cap (16): Purchased from the hidden shop in a well south of Alltrades Abbey
Turnscote Pendant (45): Acquired from Ali Kazam when you complete the Mt Snowhere part of the story
Milly Style Gear Choices:
Miracle Sword (51) + Sacred Armour (55): These two items combined will give you a total of 146 Style. Both are obtained from the Mini Medal Side Quest
Silver Tiara (25): Silver Tiara is sold in Ghent, Aridea and Clearvale.
Silver Platter (23): First reward from the Best-Dressed Contest.
Glass Slippers (45): Glass Slippers can be obtained from the Best-Dressed Contest or found in a treasure chest.
Goowain Style Gear Choices:
Platinum Mail (51): Purchased from the Port Haven or Turnscote Casino.
Platinum Headgear (42): Terry comes with this equip or win it from the Best-Dressed Contest.
Platinum Shield (40): Obtained by opening the Ultimate Key Door in Somnia and grabbing the Platinum Shield.
Platinum Sword (45): Rewarded to you for turning in 30 Mini Medals in the Mini Medal Side Quest.
Trailblazing Bandana (28): Purchase it in Turnscote or Greedmore Valley if you don't already have one.
