Dragon Quest 9: Ultimate Key Chest Locations

This page contains all of the locations in Dragon Quest 9 that you can access once you acquire the Ultimate Key. As many fans of this franchise may already know, the Ultimate Key is the final key you acquire in the game and it allows you to open almost all previously locked doors - and especially jail cells.

Dourbridge - Secret Shop

One of the first locations you will want to visit after acquiring the Ultimate Key is the secret shop in Dourbridge. You'll find this secret shop in the southeastern portion of Dourbridge on the backside of a large stone pillar that is holding the bridge up (pictured in the screen shot above).

There is some pretty powerful equipment here that you can't purchase anywhere else as well as a few different cosmetic items for sale such as a Maid's Outfit (also used in a Sidequest).

 

Dourbridge - Jail Cell In Cap'n Max Meddlin's Tent

While we're still in Dourbridge the next spot we'll want to go with the Ultimate Key is Cap'n Max's Tent. Inside of this tent you'll find a single jail cell with 5 chests in it.

Bloomingdale - Inside the Well

In the northeastern part of Bloomingdale you will find a well which has a jail cell in it, inside is the chest.

Coffinwell - Inside The Well

You'll find this guy inside of the well in the town of Coffinwell - the well is impossible to miss and so is this guy. If you'd like to find out more about this sidequest then follow the link below.

Gleeba - Inside The Plumbed Depths Dungeon

If you've forgotten how to get to the Plumbed Depths dungeon, during the day going into the Mirage Mahal palace and on the first floor you'll find the royal bath. In the northwestern corner of the Royal Bath you'll find the Plumbed Depths dungeon, just jump inside of the well. It's shown in the screen shot above.

Once inside the dungeon you're going to want to follow the main path down to B1 where the Magic Door is; this area is pictured in my screen shot below. Kick down the Magic Key door and right on the otherside you'll see a jail cell with a treasure chest inside of it. That's our loot!

Gerzuun - B1 Ultimate Key Chest

Forget where Gerzuun is? Zoom over to Batsureg and travel north one map then east another and Gerzuun is the cave in the northern part of this area. Once inside of the dungeon finding the jail cell with the treasure chest in it is a piece of cake.... Just use my maps on either side of this paragraph to guide you.

Inside of your Boat

There's two chests in your ship's hold which are locked behind a jail cell. Of course with the Ultimate Key this is no problem - bust it open and grab your loot!

Stornway Castle - Prison on B1

There's nothing of value at this location so I recommend you don't even bother coming here... However this is a place you can only access once you get the Ultimate Key so... It makes the list. Enter Stornway Castle and go immediately to the west to find the stairwell going down to B1. You can only enter the castle during the day so if it's night go to the Inn first.
