City of Mist - Post Mercenary Leveling Guide
City of Mist is the main location I recommend for this level range because of the amount of plat that can be made here. Plat is extremely important during these levels because you need as much defiant gear as possible so you can start being of more use to your mercenary.
Stay near the entrance of City of Mist until you reach level 37 or 38. The first pull of the zone is two enemies then you can find a few singles around the entrance, giving your mercenary time to med between pulls. Don't go too far in or you'll find pulls of 3 mobs which is too much for your merc right now.
If you've been following my instructions and using a Tank mercenary it is literally easier to let the tank merc kill the mob as you sit there and do nothing but watch. If you get in there and fight the mob during this level range without any heals you'll bite the dust pretty fast. If you use a healer merc though, they bite the dust fast since you can't keep agro!
So, there's the conundrum! And a repeat of the reason I told you to use a tank merc with this guide!
Once you hit level 40 you can start exploring the first portion of City of Mist. Not as many enemies will be yellow or red anymore and your mercenary won't have as much trouble taking them out as he did before. I'd recommend staying out of the northern most building as the enemies in there are higher level than the outside.
As you level up more and more cautiously move west into the second part of the zone. Again, avoid all of the buildings if you don't want to take any risks. The outside areas have spaced out single pulls which are perfect. Inside a building you can find yourself quickly over run which can make things go from good to really bad fast.
While your mercenary is doing most of the killing for you spend some of your mana buffing him and raising your magics if you're a caster. Melee might be able to squeeze in a few attacks depending on your mercenaries agro. Anything to start raising your skills a bit as you'll need to start helping your mercenary in a dozen levels or so.
I'd recommend you hang on to all of the gems and spells that drop while you're here. The gems of course have a high vendor price and they stack - the spells also have a good vendor price of usually 20+ pp per spell. They also stack and barely weigh anything which makes them perfect for making some extra pp!
Additional Information
- You can find the zone line for City of Mist in the Emerald Jungle. The fastest way to reach EJ is to have a Wizard or Druid port you. Alternatively you could also take the PoK stone to Cabilis and run from here.
- If you're having trouble managing your Inventory Space I highly recommend you invest in some Extraplanar Trade Satchels which are 32 Slot Tradeskill Bags. Alternatively you could also buy Unexpanded Tailored Backpacks as well. Though, the Backpacks will likely be more expensive. Follow the links provided to learn more about each item.
- If you need more plat while leveling I strongly recommend you check out my How to make more plat while leveling by Bartering Guide. It'll give you a list of all the different items you should be keeping an eye out for to Barter/Sell!
