Eye of Shadow Farming Location
One of the most infamous farms in the game is for The Eye of Shadow, an item that's used in the Priest Benediction Quest. There are technically two places that you can farm this item, in Winterspring and in Blasted Lands - but with this guide I will primarily be covering the Winterspring location.
I will leave this note here too, if you're looking to make gold, there are plenty of better farming locations for you. I'd only recommend farming here if you actually need the Eye of Shadow - or if the all or nothing lottery method of farming really appeals to you. The reason for this is, unless you get The Eye of Shadow, you'll make virtually nothing from farming here.
The location that you'll be farming for The Eye of Shadow in Winterspring is in the southern most portion of the zone, shown on my map below. The enemies here are all level 59 or 60 elites and you should expect a real challenge from them. Assuming you're not boxing or with a group you'll need to kite the enemies or interrupt them as much as possible or they'll be the victor in battle instead of you.
You will encounter three different types of enemies at this location, Slayers, Initiates and Manastalkers. I've included a list below of the strengths and weaknesses of each of these enemies as well as what you should expect from them. Out of the three enemies only two of them drop the Eye of Shadow, the Slayers and Initiates.
If you only plan to farm at this location for a half hour, or some small amount of time then I would recommend you only hunt the Slayers and Initiates. However, if you plan to stay at this location awhile eventually you'll need to take out the Manastalkers too as every mob here shares a spawn location. If all you did is hunt the mobs you needed then eventually you'd become over run with Felhunters.
Hederine Slayers: Kiteable, very hard melee attacks including Mortal Strike but no ranged - can be stunned, rooted and slowed
Hederine Initiate: Succubus, attacks with Ranged spells. She casts Immolate, Shadow Bolt and Mind Control and is very squishy to physical attacks.
Hederine Manastalker: Felhunter, uses mostly melee attacks. The only ranged ability it has is Mana Burn as far as I can tell.
Every gathering profession will be able to make a little bit extra money while farming at this location. Skinning will make the least since the only mobs you can skin are the Felhunters and you'll likely be avoiding them as much as possible. Miners will make the most since not only will you find Small Thorium Veins, but a lot of Rich Thorium Veins in this area as well.
In fact, there will typically always be other players running through this location as well looking for Rich Thorium Veins - which means you'll have some competition! As far as Herbalism goes, the only Herb that you will find here is Gromsblood. It's used in many different high end Alchemy recipes (including Flask of the Titans) so it'll always be valuable on your server.
