Barrockstadt - Syberia Walkthrough
When you arrive in Barrockstadt exit the train to the right and proceed left one screen. You should find yourself at the same location shown in my screen shot above. The first thing you will want to do is head to the south where you'll find the station master and the Hook item that we need. While here talk with the station master about 'Birds' and 'Mission'. A screen shot of this location is shown below if you're having trouble finding it.
Once you have the Hook return to the intersection shown in my screen shot above. This time you'll want to travel north past the train and along the dirt path. After going a few screens to the north you'll see a wind mill in the distance and Kate will mention that it looks like the winding machine that she used to charge the train in Valadilene. This dialogue popup is the 'quest flag' we need to advance the story; once you trigger it return to the train.
Upon arriving back at the train Oscar will be standing outside and will shout to you, telling you to come talk to him. Enter the train and speak with him to learn about the rectors who wish to speak with you about your train. There is also a couple who wish to speak with you about the train as well. You can find them on a barge nearby which you can reach by first heading back to the stairway intersection shown at the top of this page.
This time you'll want to go up the stairs to your right. You'll find yourself at another intersection, go to the right and you'll find the barge with the couple we're looking for. You'll want to ask for 'Help' using the available dialogue option and they'll offer to tow your train for 100$.

Now it's time to go earn that 100$! Leave the barge screen by going up the stairs and instead of entering the train station again exit the screen to the right. This will put you into another intersection which you're going to want to go right at. You'll go up a flight of stairs that has large elephant statues (pictured below) and leads you to the university.
I've also included a picture of the intersection I am talking about below too just incase there is any confusion. Once you've gone up the stairs head inside of the university.
When you enter the university there will be a large mammoth statue in front of you and a deer statue to the left. Much like many of the previous areas, this too is an intersection with multiple routes. Our first destination(s) are reached by going left one screen then through the large red double doors. This will put you inside the library of the university.
In the library you're looking for 2 books, Amerzone: Memories of an Expedition is the first one and you can find it by going down the stairs to the middle of the room and searching the end of a table. The next book is The Illustrated Dictionary of Plants and Mushrooms which you can find by going back up the stairs and searching for a ladder leaning against a bookshelf.
Click on the ladder to climb up it and you'll be able to click on one of the yellow books on the right hand side of the screen that was placed on the rack upside down. With both of these items in hand you can leave the library and return to the main room. Our next destination is going to be the 3 Rectors; to reach them once you leave the library you'll want to turn left again and continue down the hall. Use my screen shot below if you need better directions.

You'll want to ask the 3 Rectors about 'Hans' and 'Money' to advance the story. They will agree to give you the 100$ you need to get your train towed if you help them fix the bandstand that Hans built for them many years ago. With that finished head to the opposite side of the university which is where you'll find Professor Pons, he's the old guy in a labcoat standing in front of a smaller mammoth statue. A screen shot of him is shown below.
Talk with Professor Pons about 'Hans' and 'Sauvignon' to get the story updates you need then exit the university. When you do you'll get another call from Mr. Marson who isn't happy with the slow progress of your mission. At this point in time you'll want to return to the train to collect the Mammoth Doll that we collected in the previous chapter.

At this point in time there is a decent amount of running back and forth that you need to complete to advance the story again. I've included each of these steps in a list format which is below since I feel that's easier to explain all that is needed.
1. Pick up the Mammoth Doll from the train

Return to the Stationmaster and ask him about 'Sauvignon' he should cut the conversation short and run off
3. Start traveling back to the University
4. Talk to the Stationmaster when you pass him on the bridge about 'Sauvignon' again and he'll tell you to talk to the professor about it (picture of location below)
5. Return to Professor Pons and ask him about 'Sauvignon' again; he'll tell you to talk to the Rectors about it
6. Give the Professor the Mammoth Doll and he'll open the door to his laboratory and invite you in
We'll talk to the Rectors about the 'Sauvignon' in a little bit, first let's handle the Mammoth Doll portion of this quest.

As aforementioned, upon giving Professor Pons the Mammoth Doll he'll excitedly run off and open the nearby door to his laboratory. Follow him inside since there are a few items we need to collect in here before going to speak to the Rectors. The first item you need to grab is the Barrockstadt Voice Cylinder which you can find along the back wall in a wooden cabinet on the left hand side of the laboratory.
The next items we need are the Test Tube Holder and Yangala-Cola Powder both of which can be found on the lab table in the bottom right of the screen that is an overview of the entire lab. Once you've collected these 3 items return to the Rectors and ask them about 'Sauvignon'; this time you'll get the information you want from them.
Now that you know the Stationmaster is growing the Sauvignon plants return to him and speak with him again. He's still standing on the bridge where you last left him (pictured above). Ask him about 'Sauvignon' one last time and then follow him to the garden nearby. If you're struggling to figure out where the garden is, we've been pretty much every where around the train station except there so far. I've included a picture below of the intersection that leads you to the next 2 areas we're going to be visiting.
Follow the path to the garden and grab the Sauvignon Grapes from a bush next to the birch trees. Return to the same intersection shown in my screen shot above and this time go up 2 screens towards where it says Mechanical Eagle on my picture. This will put you on a screen with 3 cuckoo birds and a ladder that they're currently blocking.
Approach the Cuckoo Birds and feed the Sauvignon Grapes you have to them to make them move out of the way -- then climb the ladder up to the mechanical bird. Equip the Test Tube Holder we picked up in the laboratory and use it to grab a Cuckoo's Egg.
Return towards the university, on your way across the bridge the Stationmaster will stop you and give you a Wine Bottle which is an item we'll need for a future puzzle. The next thing we need to do is fix the Bandstand which is a little gazebo of sorts in the University's Courtyard. I've included a screen shot below of exactly what the Bandstand is since it's not clear ingame.

Circle around the back of the Bandstand and you'll be able to inspect one of the contraptions that's broken. It has a set of scales on it, one with a golden egg inside and the other is empty. Place the Cuckoo's Egg into the empty scale and then turn the valve below it to open the door. Climb down the ladder and pull the lever inside to fix the Bandstand thing and complete this part.
Return to the 3 Rectors and select the dialogue option 'Money'; since we've done what they asked and repaired the Bandstand they'll hand over the 100$ we need to tow the boat. Now it's time to return to the barge with the money. Select the Money item out of your inventory and hand it to them. After the dialogue with the couple they'll toss a Lock Key onto land right next to Kate, be sure to pick it up before you leave.
Head back to the screen with the bridge that the Stationmaster is currently standing on and you will get a phone call from your mom. Instead of crossing the bridge continue up one screen and you'll find a control panel shown in my screen shot below. This is the area of our next puzzle.

To solve this puzzle the normal way what you'll need to do is inspect the sign next to the control panel that says to call this number: 2766 - 6742
Whip out your phone and dial the number, you'll get an automatic messaging service that asks you to press a couple of numbers depending on what you desire to do. Keep track of the numbers you're asked to press while on the phone call because they're the same numbers you'll have to press on the control panel. I've provided an answer sheet of the correct combination below.
To Start: Press #
Barrockstadt Lock: Press 4
Lower Water Level: Press 2
Confirm: Press *
When you're ready to solve the puzzle for realsies inspect the control panel and equip the Lock Key from your inventory. Use the key on the lock to open the glass panel then press the same numbers that we did while on the phone. In order they are, #, 4, 2 and *.
Return to the barge and tell the couple that the lock is now open by choosing the 'Locks' dialogue option. After they move their boat return to the control panel and this time raise the water level. The correct combination to raise the water will be, #, 4, 1 and *. After you've done this the barge will move to the front of the train, as shown in my screen shot below.

Approach the barge at this new location and choose the 'Help' dialogue option. You'll get a cutscene of the man hurling a chain onto the ground next to Kate. In order to use this chain you'll have to open your inventory and equip the Hook item that we picked up at the start of this chapter then click on the chain. There will be another brief cutscene of the train being pulled down the tracks towards the winding station.
Head towards the train and right when you arrive on the same screen as the train you'll get a phone call from Professor Pons letting you know that it's lecture time! Return to the university, the lecture hall that we're looking for is on the 2nd floor. Go up the stairs at the first intersection in the university and you'll find the linear path to the lecture hall.
When the lecture is over return to Professor Pon's laboratory and get your Mammoth Doll back and also be sure to grab the Paleontology Notes as well. Both of these items are found on Pons' desk, talking to him won't get you either. That's all we need from the university, you can return to the train at this point in time and prepare to leave.
Much like in the previous act you'll have to wind your train up to activate it. Proceed to the adjacent side of the train and use the crank and lever (pictured below) to wind it up then you'll get a call from Dan. He's not very happy with you right now but that's ok, he's being quite immature right now.
Board the train and place the Barrockstadt Voice Cylinder as well as the Mammoth Doll into their appropriate places then speak with Oscar. The Mammoth Doll goes into the same place it was before and the new Barrockstadt Voice Cylinder goes into the wood cabinet with the rest of them.
To depart this train station talk to Oscar and use the 'Mission' dialogue option. Your train will go a short distance before stopping at a massive wall. Exit the train and you'll have to first talk with Oscar who is standing inside a ticket booth, he tells you that an Exit Visa is required to proceed further.
You can obtain the item you need by going around the back of the ticket booth and into a door on the wall itself. Follow the linear path until you get to the roof where you'll get another phone call, this time from a friend. Go down a couple screens until you find a room with Captain Malatesta who is not giving out any visas because it's too dangerous.
In order to convince Captain Malatesta to do what we want you'll have to follow each of the steps below.
1. Talk to Captain Malatesta and say 'Mission' to him
2. Use the telescope (press the red button on the top right to focus it)
3. Inspect the table nearby and use the Wine Bottle on the pair of glasses
4. Use the Yangala-Cola Powder on the Wine Bottle (it improves eyesight)
Captain Malatesta is who gives you the Exit Visa.
Kate will enter into dialogue with the Captain after you fill up the wine glasses and exit the table screen. It'll conclude with the Captain admitting his mistake and you getting your Exit Visa. Return to Oscar who is still waiting in the ticket booth and give him your Exit Visa. He'll give you a Ticket in exchange which you'll want to give back to Oscar on the train to get this show on the road.
