Terranigma Town Expansion Side Quest
In Terranigma you are able to grow towns into bigger and better versions of themselves; we'd call this world building in modern gaming. This version of town building takes place during Chapter 3 of the game since that is the first Chapter during which you'll be speaking with and dealing with humans across the world.
Almost all of this is optional and there aren't many rewards that you will get for completing the various tasks. Your reward(s) are dialogue, scenes and getting to see the changes made to the world from your effort. Back in the day this used to be super cool and unique but now adays this level of world building is dramatically outclassed by games that did it better.
The towns of Litz and Suncoast only have two expansions that take place, the rest of the towns on this page will have 3 expansions. I've sorted the towns below into their own sections to make it easier for you to understand which tasks belong to which towns.
Tip: If you're having trouble with any of the steps updating for you, exit the building/town and enter it again. This will normally advance the quest you're doing forward.
Loire Town Expansion
Loire is the first town that you get to expand and you'll do this by voting for Jean during the election. If you vote for Louis the town will be permanently locked in its infancy state and you will be unable to upgrade it; this will also prevent you from upgrading other towns too as you need some stuff from Loire to do that.
Loire's Second Expansion:
- Visit the Winery in 2nd Ave and speak with the guy behind the counter; taste test his wine 3 times to get the Wine item. Give this item to the girl at the Pub in Freedom (Equip Wine as an item to use).
- Go to the Papilo's in 2nd Ave (weavers) and speak with Marily in the back room, agree to help and she will give you the Fancy Clothes item. You need to deliver these to the 3 girls in Freedom.
- Head over to Pierre's on 1st Ave and speak with him. Exit and talk to him again and again until you get the Camera item from him.
- Speak with Matis in the building next to Pierre and agree to help. He will give you Matis's Painting. Sell this to Rich in Great Britain.
Some of the items mentioned above will need to be given to other people in different towns in order to advance this town. You'll need to advance the town of Freedom to stage #2 before you're able to advance Loire to stage #3.
Litz Town Expansion
Litz only gets a single expansion and you only have to complete two tasks to upgrade it. Both tasks require you to get items from outside of town and return them to citizens within the town. The first thing you need is the Tin Sheet which you'll get from Will's house in Nirlake (you'll find it on the ground in his house - check out Chapter 3 (Part 2) of my Walkthrough for more information). Give this to the man in Litz who says he wishes he had a way to preserve sardines long term.
Once you get the Tinned Sardines take them to Stoma in Freedom. After doing this return to Litz and tell the guy that the task is complete. Next, you'll have to purchase the Crystal from the Caravan at the Oasis in Africa and give it to the guy in Litz who wants to make an ornament for the Church.
Freedom Town Expansion
Freedom is the first town you visit in America and it is pretty easy to complete the first upgrade. You need to assist two people, the first is a man named Bell. When you talk to Bell he asks you to visit his girlfriend in Nirlake and speak with her. Visit Nirlake (north of Freedom) and speak with his girlfriend in the northern part of town, return to Bell and tell him the truth.
Bell will retreat to the Pub and you'll have to visit him there and speak with him twice. After this he'll ask you to come to his house so that he can give you a Magirock as a thank you. The next person you have to help is Eddy; speak with him inside of his room and then push on his machine until you get two rounds of dialogue. He'll thank you for giving him an idea and that's all we need.
Freedom Second Expansion:
- Return to Bell and assist him with his next invention
- Assist Eddy by pushing his newest machine
- Help Will by traveling to Yunkou and figuring out why metal prices are so high. This task is part of the story and you'll need to do it to advance the game. Check out Chapter 3 (Part 3) of my Terranigma Walkthrough for more information.
Nirlake Town Expansion
Nirlake is another easy town to advance during the first stage of its evolution. All you need to do here is help Mick invent the hamburger, doing this will advance the town forward. You can find Mick in a building in the north of town, tell him to Grind the meat up and put it in a bun.
Nirlake Second Expansion: This one is a bit of a pain in the butt, you have to wait until Nirlake burns down then speak with the guy in the middle of the village and then deliver 9 letters to different people all over the world.
Where To Bring The 9 Letters:
- Will (Nirlake)
- Bell (Freedom)
- Eddie (Freedom)
- Rich (Great Britain)
- Sardine Guy (Litz)
- Winery Owner (Loire)
- Matis (Loire)
- Marily (Loire)
- Pierre (Loire)
Suncoast Town Expansion
You can only expand Suncoast once over its lifetime and in order to fully expand Suncoast you must complete many of the other towns first. There are 3 things you must do to expand this town, the first is to speak with the rancher to get the Tasty Meat item. You'll need to deliver this item to Stoma in Freedom.
Next, you'll need to obtain the Airfield Plans from Will in Nirlake or Freedom and show them to the Tourist Council of Suncoast. Last but not least you'll also need to take pictures of Suncoast with your Camera and bring the pictures to every other Tourist building in each of the other towns. Some towns will require you to fully expand/upgrade them before their Tourist building appears.
