Soul Blazer Walkthrough - Chapter 4

After defeating the Demon Falcon boss and getting the Black Stone from the King you'll want to hop into Master's Shrine o' fast travel and teleport over to the final dungeon - The World of Evil. Unlike before there won't be a town portion, you'll be dropped into an area that already has enemies.

Our goal is to obtain the Red-Hot Ball item and then bail from this dungeon. When you clear all the monsters on the World of Evil first floor you'll want to return to the Master's Shrine o' fast travel and take the new teleportation tile. This will put you into the small area with the Red-Hot Ball (pictured below).

This item is the last item we need to summon the Phoenix, which is a story requirement to advance the game further. If you have been following my walkthrough this entire time then you've already got the other two items required. If not, no worries as I will give you more details below!

Red Hot Ball Acquired

Phoenix Summoning

In order to summon the Phoenix you'll need to collect 3 items in total. Two of these items require you to return to older dungeons after obtaining a new weapon. Below are details about each of the three items you need and where you can obtain them. If you'd like more information, check out my Walkthrough Chapters for more details.

Red-Hot Stick: You can get this item by clearing the Metal Apes in Durean (St Elles area). After clearing them with the Zantetsu Sword return to St Elles and speak with the mermaid in town for your treasure. Check out Chapter 2 of my Walkthrough for more information about this.

Red-Hot Mirror: For this one you'll need to get the Spirit Sword and then return to the Light Shrine in Lostside. To get here return to the GreenWood Master's Shrine and exit to the east. Defeat the enemies here to spawn a bird back in GreenWood, you'll need to chase this bird and then sneak up on it to talk with it and get the item. Check out Chapter 3 of my Walkthrough for more information about this (including pictures).

Red-Hot Ball: More information on this above.

After you have collected all 3 of these items you'll want to go to the Soul of Mountain House which is the area on top of the mountain that we did. Once you're back in town visit the King in the southwestern portion of town. Speak with him here and he will automatically grant you the Phoenix magic.

World of Evil & Final Boss

Return to the World of Evil, take the southern teleporter in the Master's Shrine and head to the northern most portion of the first area. This is where you'll find the teleporter that leads to the next part of the dungeon. Clear the next room and before you take the northern teleporter - make sure you loot the Soul Armor from the chest. If you don't have this armor equipped when you enter the Dazzling Space area you'll get a massive DoT.

Once you enter Dazzling Space the new thing you'll want to keep an eye out for is the Soul Blade. The Soul Armor is the best in slot chest piece and the Soul Blade is the best in slot weapon for your character. You need both to summon the Phoenix as well. If you can't find the Soul Blade, it's directly south of the final teleporter that you unlock right next to Deathtoll's Palace.

In other words, you can find the Soul Blade in the southeastern portion of the Dazzling Space map (pictured below).

Now that you have both BiS weapon and armor you're able to use the Phoenix magic which will let us destroy the annoying wall enemies that roll back and forth. Each wall enemy gives you 4000 EXP which makes this the best grinding location in the entire game. Honestly, if you're level 25 or so you probably won't need to do any grinding to beat the final boss, but the option is there for you if you want to level up a tad bit more.

Something to point out is that I don't believe levels matter as much past level 25 as they did before level 25. Meaning that the improvements you get for 25 - 50 are very minor compared to the improvements from 1 - 25. At level 25 you'll have max Defense and Strength but you will only have 55/100 HP. Leveling up to 50 won't raise anything but your health and it's a very minor bit of survivability per level. Think of it this way, one level ingame means you can survive two more hits from the boss (assuming you use a Medical Herb).

Deathtoll Boss Fight

This fight can be made harder or easier depending on how well you've done in the game up to this point. If you're very low on Gems that is going to be an issue because you'll need to use the Phoenix magic a lot. You'll need to either farm Gems or to farm up the Magic Bell so that you don't need to consume Gems.

Using the Magic Bell comes with drawbacks too though because that means you can't use the Power Bracelet or Shield Bracelet. Choose carefully because the preparation for this boss fight is just as important as the fight itself!

When you're finally ready to challenge the final boss of this game you'll want to make sure you have a Medical Herb in your inventory. Use the Master's Shrine o' fast travel and teleport yourself to the location outside of Deathtoll's Castle (the teleportation tile on the right). Head inside of the castle and keep going straight north until eventually you run into the boss room.

Phase 1 of this fight is a piece of cake, just blast Deathtoll with your Phoenix magic over and over and over until you've won. Like most bosses in these sorts of games, it comes with two phases!

Deathtoll Phase 2

During Phase 2 you'll be fighting the Deathtoll pictured above. This is a more complicated fight but still rather easy overall. Our rotation for this fight is going to be - destroy the blue flames that appear on our platform and then attack Deathtoll 2 or 3 times using Phoenix. Deathtoll will use a variety of attacks on you but they're all predictable and easy to dodge if you focus on dodging them.

The blue flames are the important part of the fight though because they control his immunity. Deathtoll is immune to all damage unless his eyes light up with the green color and this only happens after you defeat all of the blue flames. You'll have a short 2 or 3 second window to deal as many hits as you can to Deathtoll; 3 Phoenix is the most you can damage him with in the time you have.

After defeating the boss, watch the ending cutscene and enjoy the credit roll! That's all there is to Soul Blazer! If you enjoyed this game and you're interested in the other games in this trilogy I recommend you check out my Illusion of Gaia or Terranigma Walkthroughs which I link to below!
