Location of All 50 Red Jewels - Illusion of Gaia Guide
This page includes a list of all 50 Red Jewel Locations as well as information about your rewards for collecting them all. Below you will find a list of the rewards and below that will be a complete list of all 50 Red Jewels. One thing to note, on the original SNES there is no "real" reward for collecting all 50. The final dungeon has an optional boss and none of it gives you anything except bragging rights that you did it.
What this means is for normal players, you're cool collecting 30 and stopping. In fact, you don't even need to collect 30 because there is an alternative way to get the Dark Friar power up during the game.
Red Jewel Rewards:
03 Jewels: Herb
05 Jewels: +1 DEF
08 Jewels: +1 HP
12 Jewels: +1 STR
20 Jewels: Psycho Slider's Strength Increased
30 Jewels: Dark Friar Can Now Split Into Four
50 Jewels: Jeweler's Mansion Dungeon (Check bottom of page)
Tip: Equip a Red Jewel and consume it like you would any item in the game. This will send the Jewel to the Jeweler for you and free up a space in your inventory.
Red Jewel #1 (South Cape): Search the left side of the bell tower on top of Will's School.
Red Jewel #2 (South Cape): Inspect a pot in Lance's basement
Red Jewel #3 (South Cape): Keep going in and out of the Seaside Cave until the fisherman spawns south of the entrance/exit. Inspect the pot near him for a jewel.
Red Jewel #4 (Edward's Castle): Speak with the person standing behind the eastern column on the first floor of the castle. You won't be able to see them, you'll have to press the talk button blindly.
Red Jewel #5 (Edward's Prison): You'll find a broken switch that you must climb above and jump down on top of to activate. Loot the chest inside of the room this opens for the Red Jewel.
Red Jewel #6 (Edward's Prison): Found inside of a treasure chest by going left at the fork.
Red Jewel #7 (Edward's Prison): After meeting Lilly go south and inspect the right side of the bottom barrel.
Red Jewel #8 (Itory Village): Found in the pile of logs on the left in Itory Village.
Red Jewel #9 (Incan Ruins): Found inside of a treasure chest in Incan Ruins; reached from a fork deep within the cave.
(Can Permanently Miss) Red Jewel #10 (Golden Ship): After waking up from the dream on the Incan Ship speak with Seth who is upstairs on the deck of the ship.
Red Jewel #11 (Diamond Coast): Inspect the pot outside of the man's house who saves you after your stint on the raft. It's the pot to the right of his door.
Red Jewel #12 (Freejia): Search the green pot in the room upstairs in the Inn.
Red Jewel #13 (Freejia): Go east of the hotel and jump down into the flowers; go down and you'll find a hidden path. Talk with the purple robed man to get the jewel.
Red Jewel #14 (Freejia): Head to the top of the Labor Camp and jump off the building to the right. Climb up the ladder to the south and jump off this building; you'll be able to access the building you're standing on now from the roof. Speak with both people inside to learn the location of the laborer who ran way. Return to the two purple robed men in the back part of town looking for a laborer and tell them where the hidden one is. You'll be given the jewel as a reward.
Red Jewel #15 (Diamond Mines): Use Psycho Dash on the wall in the mines (pictured above) to break it. Speak with the Laborer for 3 Red Jewels.
Red Jewel #16 (Diamond Mines): Use Psycho Dash on the wall in the mines (pictured above) to break it. Speak with the Laborer for 3 Red Jewels.
Red Jewel #17 (Diamond Mines): Use Psycho Dash on the wall in the mines (pictured above) to break it. Speak with the Laborer for 3 Red Jewels.
Red Jewel #18 (Sky Garden - NE Room): From the first room of the Sky Garden you'll want to take the NE fork. You'll find this jewel inside of a chest in the NE portion of the NE room... If you're confused take solace in the fact that this jewel is very easy to find.
Red Jewel #19 (Sky Garden): Right after you arrive in the dark side you will find a chest to the west which contains this.
Red Jewel #20 (Seaside Palace): You'll find this Jewel by searching the chest near Kara.
Red Jewel #21 (Seaside Palace): From the room with Kara you'll need to go downstairs once and then back upstairs to reach this chest. On Kara's floor when you go downstairs you go down 2 sets of stairs; when you go back up you only go up one flight of stairs.
Red Jewel #22 (Seaside Palace): Two gray slimes will fall down next to the stairs that lead up to the small room with this jewel. If you've already taken out all of the enemies, better directions may be -- this jewel is found in the room just above where you find ghost Neil and Erik.
Red Jewel #23 (Mu): After lowering the water level a second time go south of the Room of Hope and open the chest for the jewel.
Red Jewel #24 (Angel Village): From the surface go west and down the ladder to the 'town' portion with people. Enter the eastern door and then travel west along a narrow ledge; go into the door that is on this narrow ledge. Just north of the door you will see a fountain, inspect it for the jewel.
Red Jewel #25 (Angel Village): After you reveal the hidden door (pictured above) you will see a small crack next to the door in the next room which you can slide into using Will. This small crack will also be protected by a monster. You'll find the jewel inside; it's hard to miss.
Red Jewel #26 (Angel Village/Path to Ishtar): This jewel is found to the east of the two waterfalls, search the red pot in the second room. Inside the first room you'll find a picture of Kara, to the right of that is the pot with the jewel I am talking about.
Red Jewel #27 (Angel Village/Path to Ishtar): Search the chest inside of the third riddle room for the jewel.
Red Jewel #28 (Watermia): Visit the SW corner of town and inspect the circle of jars around the girl standing outside. The correct jar is the NW one.
Red Jewel #29 (Watermia): Go into the Gambling House (called Desert when you enter) in SE Watermia, inspect the northeastern pot inside for this jewel.
Red Jewel #30 (Great Wall): Found in the early to middle part of the Great Wall inside of a chest.
Red Jewel #31 (City of Euro): Visit the market south of the mansion and speak with the woman wearing a blue dress for an Apple. Return to the mansion and go into the room on the left, give the apple to the girl. Rinse and repeat until she gives you the jewel.
Red Jewel #32 (City of Euro): After speaking with the two old men who are arguing exit their house and go to the left down the small alley. Search the wall at the end to find the jewel.
Red Jewel #33 (City of Euro): Go north of where you found the house with the two old men arguing, walk past the first left turn and stop just above that when you find the two red roof buildings with a gap between them. Look at the two roofs to see the gap between them, you won't be able to tell there is a hidden alley here otherwise. Walk down the hidden alley then climb up the ladder to reach a shrine. Go inside and inspect the shrine to reveal a door behind. Inside the room with the chained laborers you'll want to inspect the SE barrel for the jewel.
Red Jewel #34 (Watermia): Return to Watermia and speak with Lance inside of Luke's House.
Red Jewel #35 (Mountain Temple): When you find the portal that transforms you back into Will (travel east to find this) go south of it and follow the vine path across the mushrooms. It's a very straight line that leads directly to the red jewel.
Red Jewel #36 (Natives' Village): Visit the house on the right side in Native's Village and inspect the pot in the SW corner.
Red Jewel #37 (Angkor Wat): After you enter the building of Angkor Wat go to the right immediately; it's the first chest you see where you have to run down one ramp to get up another. Very easy to find.
Red Jewel #38 (Angkor Wat): After going through the Garden and entering back inside the castle you'll want to go northwest to a thin hallway where you find a fork in the road. One path goes south and continues with the dungeon, another path goes north and leads to this jewel.
Red Jewel #39 (Angkor Wat): Enter Main Hall 2F as Will and slide through the hole in the wall in the southwest part of this area. Jump down the first hole that you see and you will land next to the chest with this jewel.
Red Jewel #40 (Angkor Wat): Found on Main Hall 4F at the end of the area, you'll need to come to this location anyway to defeat the final monster on this floor.
Red Jewel #41 (Natives' Village): After getting the Gorgon Flower item from Angkor Wat return to the Natives' Village and use it on the statues. Speak with the girl in the middle to get this jewel.
Red Jewel #42 (Dao): You'll win this jewel by playing the whack-a-snake game in Dao. This game works the same way as whack-a-mole, multiple snakes will rise out from the pots and you need to hit them. My advice is to stand near the middle pot but close enough to another pot that you can hit it after a sharp turn. Focus on the middle pot and the one in your other corner, hit as many snakes as you can and you will win.
Red Jewel #43 (Dao): You'll win this jewel by playing the whack-a-snake game in Dao.
Red Jewel #44 (Dao): Outside in the NE part of Dao you'll see two Kruks standing near some water. Inspect the grass above the northern Kruk and you'll find this jewel.
Red Jewel #45 (Pyramid - Entrance): Go up the stairs on the right side of the portal you transform into Shadow at. Use the Aura item at the top of the stairs (right before the exit) to drop down into a small room below you. Examine the pillar on the top left to find this jewel.
Red Jewel #46 (Pyramid): This Jewel is found in the door that's second to the left if you're looking at the middle platform. I call it #2 Left Door in my Walkthrough. In order to reach this jewel you need to use Shadow and use the Aura item while using him. Keep traveling through the floor down as far as you can go and you will find this chest in a hallway with a chest.
Red Jewel #47 (Pyramid): For this Jewel you'll need to enter the second door to the right of the middle platform. Equip the Aura item and use Shadow - use Aura to go down once and then use Aura again at the top of the stairs to the east. This will let you phase down to a room with a single chest and a portal back up. Loot the chest for this jewel.
Red Jewel #48 (Pyramid): You'll find this Red Jewel in the door on the left hand side that's closest to the middle platform. I name this #3 Left Door in my Walkthrough. Transform into Will and use his Psycho Spin (Hold A and tap L + R until he does a tornado) to jump across the ramp at the top of this area. You'll land in an area with a chest, inside is the jewel.
Red Jewel #49 (Pyramid): Search the first door on the right of the middle platform to find this jewel. You'll need to use Will to reach it, use your Psycho Spin (Hold A and tap L + R until Will does a tornado) to jump across the ramps with the spike trap ceilings. When you reach the end of the first hallway - before you continue to the right you will find a door that goes down. Open the chest in this room to find the jewel. There will be 6 Mummy enemies in this small room as well.
Red Jewel #50 (Pyramid): This jewel is one you can easily find right when you arrive in this dungeon. You'll pass two Freedan statues on the way in with a chest looking thing between them. Inspect the chest and you'll find this jewel.
The Jeweler's Mansion
Once you have collected all 50 Red Jewels your reward is a difficult dungeon with a difficult end boss. You will get an Herb too but that's it... seriously. Maybe in the future if this game ever gets a re-release there will be an achievement associated with this but there is no tangible ingame reward that goes along with it.
If you're still interested in checking it out, after getting the last Red Jewel inside of the Tower of Babel you'll want to return to Dao and speak with the Jeweler (pictured below). Give him the final Red Jewel and you will be instantly transported to his mansion which is filled with enemies.
There are no rewards in this mansion for defeating enemies so don't worry about beating them all. Focus on advancing through this dungeon as quickly as possible while avoiding as much damage as possible. Not very far into the dungeon you will find a staircase, to the north will be a chest with the Herb inside of it.
In order for us to progress past this Herb we need to slide under the stairs using Will's slide skill. Look at the stairs, you will see that the left hand side is pitch black - this means we can slide right on through! Not too long after you pass through these stairs you will arrive at the boss of the dungeon - Long Arm!
For those of you who played Soul Blazer, you may recognize this boss since it is the first boss of the game. Check out my Soul Blazer Walkthrough (Chapter 1) if you'd like to see pictures of it in that game. The strategy for this boss will be the exact same as it was in that game.
The boss room has 3 conveyor belts and you will need to run up the one with some resistance; attack the boss a few times then let the conveyor belt carry you back down. Pay attention to the boss and how/when it attacks - you need to disengage soon enough to avoid the fireballs it shoots out.
You can also try and use the Psycho Dash attack (Hold A and jump over the whole conveyor belt) however this only hits the boss for 1 damage each time. While the attack is charging you are also vulnerable to fireball attacks. Another tip is you can use L or R to block attacks from the front. It won't help if a fireball broadsides you but it will block them from the front.
Once you defeat the boss you will get a bit of dialogue about how amazing you are then you'll be returned to the Tower of Babel.
