Illusion of Gaia Walkthrough - Chapter 4

The previous Chapter of my Walkthrough abruptly ended about 3/4 of the way through the Angkor Wat dungeon. We found the Black Crystal Glasses and used them to see on the Main Hall 2F; after doing that we collected Red Jewel #39 and continued up to the next floor.

You can clear about half of the enemies in Main Hall 3F when you first visit, to reach the ones on the raised platforms you'll first need to visit the 4F and jump down a hole from there. Before jumping down you should get Red Jewel #40. Once you jump down to 3F again follow the stairs up from here to 4F and then to the 5F.

Red Jewel #40: Found on Main Hall 4F at the end of the area, you'll need to come to this location anyway to defeat the final monster on this floor.

All you need to do on the 5F is speak with the spirit here and get the Gorgon Flower from it (pictured below). Watch the short scene after talking with the spirit and you will awake with the item in your hand.

Angkor Wat Spirit

Once you're done it's time to exit this dungeon and return to the Natives' Village that we were at previously. My advice is to press Start in each room as you work your way back through this dungeon because it isn't hard to miss a monster or two on your first clear.

At the Natives' Village you'll want to enter the eastern house and use the Gorgon Flower on each of the statues. Talk with the girl in the middle to get Red Jewel #41. Once you get this jewel all that's left is to speak with Kara so that you can head over to Dao, our next location.

Red Jewel #41: After getting the Gorgon Flower item from Angkor Wat return to the Natives' Village and use it on the statues. Speak with the girl in the middle to get this jewel.

When you arrive in Dao the first thing you'll want to do is go outside and talk to the guy playing the flute. He will give you Lola's Letter as well as Father's Journal, you should equip both in your inventory and use them like an item so that you can read them. After doing that visit Neil in the house next door and speak with him.

Red Jewel #42: You'll win this jewel by playing the whack-a-snake game in Dao. This game works the same way as whack-a-mole, multiple snakes will rise out from the pots and you need to hit them. My advice is to stand near the middle pot but close enough to another pot that you can hit it after a sharp turn. Focus on the middle pot and the one in your other corner, hit as many snakes as you can and you will win.

Red Jewel #43: You'll win this jewel by playing the whack-a-snake game in Dao.

Red Jewel #44: Outside in the NE part of Dao you'll see two Kruks standing near some water. Inspect the grass above the northern Kruk and you'll find this jewel.

Once you've spoken with Neil you can leave town to the west and travel to the next dungeon, Pyramid.

Pyramid Dungeon

When you arrive at this dungeon you'll want to go down the stairs and defeat the two Mystic Balls. Enter into the dark portal here and speak with Gaia for the Aura item and then speak with the new statue to transform into Shadow! This is a new transformation that lets us turn into water and phase through the bricks in our way.

Red Jewel #45: Go up the stairs on the right side of the portal you transform into Shadow at. Use the Aura item at the top of the stairs (right before the exit) to drop down into a small room below you. Examine the pillar on the top left to find this jewel.

To continue into the next dungeon you'll want to use the Aura item to phase through the bricks and go down to the next area. In this next area you'll find a dark portal that lets you transform into Will or Freedan; you'll also find a long room with many doorways and a portal on the right side at the end. Using this portal will teleport you back up to the entrance room of the dungeon.

For each of these doorways you need to use a different transformation to complete the puzzle in the room. I will give you more information about each of the doors below. Another thing to note is you'll find multiple Red Jewels inside of this dungeon, information about each of them can be found below too.

Key: Starting from the left hand side of the room, the doors are labeled in the order you see them as you run across to the right. To the right of the middle platform is #1 Right then #2 Right then #3 Right. You'll find the portal to go back up top under #3 Right.

#1 Left Door: Use Will for this door, you'll need his Psycho Spin (Hold A and tap L + R until you form a tornado) to jump across the ramps in this part. When you reach the very large ramp at the bottom of this area you'll need to employ a unique trick to get across. Use Psycho Spin down the short ramp and that will give you enough speed to get up the second larger ramp. From here it's a straight shot to the Hieroglyph room.

#2 Left Door: For this door you'll want to use Shadow. You will need to have Aura equipped because the only way to reach the bottom is to phase through the floor using this item. What you're looking for is the room shown in the picture below, you'll need to use Aura in front of the mural on the wall, this will let you reach the Hieroglyph room. If you jump down at the Hieroglyph room you'll find Red Jewel #46.

Pyramid Where To Use Aura
Use your Aura item to phase through the bricks here and land near the Hieroglyph room

#3 Left Door: You can use anyone you want for this room, it requires you to go down stairs and through multiple elevator rooms with switches. Step on the switch, defeat the enemies, wait for the elevator and then go to another switch room. Rinse and repeat until you find the room with the Hieroglyph. In order to reach the Red Jewel #48 you'll need to use Will's spinning move (Psycho Spin). To defeat all the enemies you'll need to use Freedan's Dark Briar ability to hit the switch across the gap on the second floor.

Middle Platform: A portal is here to transform into Will, Shadow or Freedan.

#1 Right Door: This door requires Will since you will need the Psycho Spin (Hold A and tap L + R until Will does a tornado) skill that he has. When you find the ramp in the hallway with the trap door ceilings that is when you'll use Will to get across. When you find the door with Red Jewel #49 keep going right and you will find more ramps and trap ceilings. My advice is to use Psycho Spin and get across this area as fast as possible to reach the Hieroglyph room.

#2 Right Door: We need to use Shadow for this door since you can only go down by using Aura to phase through the floor. In the first area when you find the large hole in the floor use Aura by the platform. When you get down to the new area, use Aura by the eastern stairs to reach Red Jewel #47. Use Aura by the western stairs when you want to travel down to the next floor. From here the rest of this area is pretty linear, just keep going down to find the Hieroglyph.

#3 Right Door: Any character you want works for this door. In this section you can enter/exit mummy holes and that is how you will proceed to the bottom. Look for mummy holes in the wall that have bricks/stairs towards the bottom of the doorway and this lets you know that you can enter them. You can also use Shadow to phase through the floor in many areas instead of entering the mummy holes too. As always, the Hieroglyph is at the bottom.

If you'd like additional information about each of the Red Jewels mentioned above, check my list below. You will find additional details about each Red Jewel explaining what character you need to use, what door it's found in and where you need to go once inside to locate it.

Red Jewel #46: This Jewel is found in the door that's second to the left if you're looking at the middle platform. I call it #2 Left Door in my Walkthrough. In order to reach this jewel you need to use Shadow and use the Aura item while using him. Keep traveling through the floor down as far as you can go and you will find this chest in a hallway with a chest.

Red Jewel #47: For this Jewel you'll need to enter the second door to the right of the middle platform. Equip the Aura item and use Shadow - use Aura to go down once and then use Aura again at the top of the stairs to the east. This will let you phase down to a room with a single chest and a portal back up. Loot the chest for this jewel.

Red Jewel #48: You'll find this Red Jewel in the door on the left hand side that's closest to the middle platform. I name this #3 Left Door in my Walkthrough. Transform into Will and use his Psycho Spin (Hold A and tap L + R until he does a tornado) to jump across the ramp at the top of this area. You'll land in an area with a chest, inside is the jewel.

Red Jewel #49: Search the first door on the right of the middle platform to find this jewel. You'll need to use Will to reach it, use your Psycho Spin (Hold A and tap L + R until Will does a tornado) to jump across the ramps with the spike trap ceilings. When you reach the end of the first hallway - before you continue to the right you will find a door that goes down. Open the chest in this room to find the jewel. There will be 6 Mummy enemies in this small room as well.

After you have collected all 6 Hieroglyph Stones you'll want to return to the top of the Pyramid dungeon. Transform into Will again and enter the room at the very top of the dungeon; when you arrive you will be told to stand in the top left corner. Do this and there will be a scene involving someone named Jackal, he's captured Kara. You'll have to use the Lola's Melody item in your inventory when you're prompted to play the flute.

When the scene is over it's time to place all 6 Hieroglyph Stones in the correct order. You can use the Father's Journal item to see the correct order - or you can use my handy screenshot below. Once you have placed all 6 Hieroglyphs a blue portal will appear outside of your door. Entering will take you straight to the boss fight - make sure you change forms before challenging the boss!

Mummy Queen Boss Walkthrough

For this boss the two forms you should use are either Aura or Freedan, they both come with strengths and weaknesses for this fight. My advice is to save your game, choose one and then challenge the boss. You'll learn a lot about the strategy and you'll be more prepared for the next fight. Reload your save, switch characters if you want and fight the boss again.

I personally chose Freedan for this fight because I like his Dark Friar skill for the second half of the fight. How this boss works is pretty straight forward, you need to hit the Mummy Queen to deal damage to her, once you hit her she transforms into eight ghosts that will fly around in a certain pattern depending on when in the fight you are.

Mummy Queen Boss
Mummy Queen Boss Fight

At the start of the fight the spirits will fly more erratically, normally in each of the four cardinal directions. My advice is to try and stand in a location where you can't be hit, I like to stand near the jump-down area that is on the second floor. If a ghost gets close, jump down to the first floor and you'll have invulnerability frames as you jump down.

Those of you who are using Shadow, you can use the Aura item to transform into a puddle and avoid damage too! If the queen uses an earthquake attack, jump down to the first floor or turn into a puddle to avoid damage as well. Once you damage the Mummy Queen enough times her attack pattern will change and this is when Freedan really stands out.

When the Mummy Queen is low health she will change how she uses her ghosts; instead of flying around randomly they will form a circle that expands and shrinks. This circle will fly around the room (sometimes) chasing you and other times avoiding you. Pay attention to the 8 ghosts in this circle and you will notice that 7 ghosts are very transparent and one is a solid. When you hit the solid ghost it will make the boss appear again - allowing you to damage her.

Dark Friar really stands out during this second part of the fight since you can explode Dark Friar as it flies through the air. This makes it dramatically easier to hit the correct ghost and bring the boss back out. Once the boss has been defeated you will earn our second to last Mystic Statue.

The Finale Walkthrough

With the Mummy Queen defeated, we're now in the final part of the game. There will be a short scene with Kara in the Pyramid after which you will be transported to Neil back in Dao. Speak with him and you will take off in the air plane and get flown to the Tower of Babel.

Flying to Tower of Babel

Red Jewel #50: This jewel is one you can easily find right when you arrive in this dungeon. You'll pass two Freedan statues on the way in with a chest looking thing between them. Inspect the chest and you'll find this jewel.

Keep going down the hallway, use the short ledge to walk across the spiked pit area. Eventually you will find a door with two light beams - trying to walk through them will knock you back and it will also knock something off of your flute. Inspect the sparkle on the ground and you will find a Crystal Ring which is an item we need to equip to proceed.

With this ring equipped you'll be able to pass through the two blue beams and enter this dungeon. How this dungeon works is pretty straight forward, you will fight every boss from throughout the game again. Inbetween each boss you will have hallways with spirits where Kara follows you. You can speak with the spirits and learn more about everything going on but it's not necessary for progression.

Dark Castoth: Attack the hands first until they go away then attack the face. Don't worry about dodging just go all out because you can heal immediately after this fight in the dark portal.

Dark Viper: Don't get pushed off the edge, keep attacking the boss until you win. Go downstairs and heal if you lose more than 3/4 health; you won't be able to heal down stairs again once you proceed further.

Dark Vampires: If you can hit the vampire from a different lane then try and do that, Shadow has a long swing so you can deal a lot of damage without being close.

Dark Sand Fanger: Really, this boss works just the same as he did previously. Attack the head whenever you can and stay near the bottom of the boss arena to avoid damage.

Dark Mummy Queen: Same as before - definitely the hardest boss of the pack.

After the Mummy Queen you will meet a vampire and then be reunited with Kara. There will also be a portal that you can heal and save at and a spirit who will take you in and out of this dungeon. You got Red Jewel #50 earlier and aren't you curious what the reward is? Well, the reward is a difficult dungeon followed by a difficult boss and an Herb for your troubles.

That's it, nothing else. Maybe on some future re-release of this game there will be an achievement! If you're playing on an emulator you can always use codes if you want to check out the content but don't want to lose all your lives/Herbs doing so. Check out my Red Jewels Side Quest Guide for more information about this dungeon and also a list of all 50 Red Jewel Locations if you're missing some. Information about the Jeweler's Mansion is found at the bottom of the page.

When you're done with that and ready to challenge the final boss head through the doorway next to the spirit/portal and enter the final doorway. Inside this room you'll want to examine the skeleton on the ground. This will transport you to the top of the Tower of Babel - talk with all of the spirits here then with your dad again and Kara. Doing this will transform you into Shadow and send you to the Chaos Comet, our first final boss.

Chaos Comet Boss Fight

The Chaos Comet is a pretty easy fight, make sure you equip the Aura item because you'll need to turn into a puddle to avoid damage sometimes. When lightning bolts come down from above, turn into a puddle. Also, try to stay in the corners to avoid damage during this fight.

In order to damage the comet, wait until the mouth opens then send a Firebird at it. Firebirds are triggered whenever you attack now - this will make damaging long ranged enemies much easier! Once the comet is beaten you'll face the real final boss - Dark Gaia.

Dark Gaia Final Boss
Attack Dark Gaia when she opens her mouth - like in this picture!

Dark Gaia is an extremely easy fight, you will have a very short window to attack her and inbetween those windows you will have to deal with a bunch of stuff being thrown at you. Use your Firebird attack to destroy the blue bubbles that come at you. When Dark Gaia throws those lightning ball attacks at you hold L or R and you will block them.

Holding L or R will make Shadow invulnerable to whatever those yellow balls are. In order to deal damage to Dark Gaia you need to wait until she opens her mouth (just like in the picture above). Shortly after she opens her mouth she will unleash a green beam which does a lot of damage. You'll need to hit her a few times then avoid the beam - rinse and repeat.

So, the boss fight typically looks a lot like this... Stand in the middle of the arena and fire Firebird at the sky over and over to destroy (most) blue balls. Any blue balls that land next to you - turn and take them out before they hit you. Whenever Dark Gaia throws the lightning balls at you, hold L or R to absorb them.

When Dark Gaia opens her mouth hit her with a few Firebirds then move out the way quickly to dodge the green beam. Get back in the middle when the beam is done and start shooting again. That's really all there is to it - keep doing this and Dark Gaia will go down very quick.

After defeating the boss, the final cutscene will play out. Kick back and enjoy the ending - you deserve it!
