In Dark Cloud there are a total of 13 items you can use as bait, however only 8 of those items are marked as bait ingame. The other 5 items that can be used as bait give no indication that they can be used for this purpose. Each of these 5 items are typically used to catch unique fish, such as the Poisonous Apple which is the only item in the game that can catch the Mardan Garayan fish.

Every item that you can use as bait in Dark Cloud is listed below along with details about what fish you can catch with it. Keep in mind that not every fish appears in every zone and the time of day also plays a role in what fish are available in the various places that you can fish.

 

Battan Battan: With this bait you can catch Baku Baku, Den, Gobbler, Gummy, Heela, Negie, Niler, Nonk and Tarton.

Bomb Nuts Bomb Nut: You can only catch a Gobbler and Niler with this bait.

Carrot Carrot: The only fish you can catch with a Carrot is an Umadakara.

Gooey Peach Gooey Peach: You can only catch a Gummy and Nonky with this item.

Evy Evy: With this bait you can catch a Bobo, Bon, Kaji and Picoly.

Throbbing Cherry Throbbing Cherry: You can catch a Heela, Niler and Den with this item.

Mellow Banana Mellow Banana: Only a Baku Baku can be caught with this item.

Mimi Mimi: You can catch a Baku Baku and a Gobbler with this bait.

Minion Minion: Minion can be used to catch the majority of fish.

Petite Fish Petite Fish: Petite Fish can be used to catch the majority of fish.

Poisonous Apple Poisonous Apple: The only fish you can catch with a Poisonous Apple is a Mardan Garayan; this fish is also worth the most FP.

Potato Cake Potato Cake: You can catch a Baron Garayan, Den, Niler, Nonky and Tarton with this bait.

Prickly Prickly: Prickly can be used to catch the majority of fish.

 

Ultimately your choice of bait will come down to what sort of fish you want to catch. If you're just fishing to fish then I would recommend Prickly since that can be purchased from the Wise Owl Shop in Matataki Village and catches most fish available. Those of you looking for a unique fish will need to use a unique bait to catch it.
