Barbarian Warrior Build Guide - Champions of Norrath

Barbarian Warrior Build Guide

The Barbarian Warrior class is arguably one of the most powerful classes in this entire game - the only close comparison is the Erudite Wizard. I think the best way to explain it is that the Wizard is the best ranged class in this game and the Barbarian is the best melee class.

Unlike many of the other classes in this game there are numerous builds that work for a Barbarian. The only build I would caution you against is one that uses a shield as it's kind of a waste to use one on a Barbarian. Shields offer you very little survivability and they prevent you from using a 2H weapon or Dual Wield, both of which will dramatically increase your damage.

What I would recommend for the Barbarian is to go the Dual Wield route - Slashing or Blunt Weapons will be totally up to you. The 2 active skills I would recommend for this class are Critical Hit and Ancestral Call. Both of these skills will apply a buff onto you that is extremely powerful and worth keeping up constantly.

Critical Hit applies a buff to you that increases your chances of scoring a critical hit. The more skill points you put into the skill the longer the buff will last and the higher the chance of scoring a critical hit will be. With max Critical Hit you'll get over 50% chance to crit with each attack.

Ancestral Call is like Critical Hit in that it applies a buff on your character that will last for longer the more points you invest into the skill. This buff increases the total damage you deal and the speed at which you attack; both Ancestral Call and Critial Hit buffs can stack on you and nearby party members.

Blunt Weapons: You can choose between 2 different weapon types on your Barbarian Warrior, Slashing or Blunt. It doesn't matter which of the 2 you choose, the weapons that drop as you play through the game are completely random.

Slashing Weapons: You can choose between 2 different weapon types on your Barbarian Warrior, Slashing or Blunt. It doesn't matter which of the 2 you choose, the weapons that drop as you play through the game are completely random.

Dodge: Each point invested into this skill will decrease the chance that you are hit with ranged attacks. This only works on ranged attacks (not spells) so you probably won't want to invest many points into it early on. Once you've capped out your more important skills you can invest more into this one.

Bind Wound: Bind Wound increases your Health Regeneration with each point. This skill is passive so you don't have to worry about activating it. I'd recommend investing points into this skill after you've maxed out your more important active skills.

Slam: Slam is essentially a normal melee swing but buffed up in damage. It consumes a small amount of mana and hits for a lot. While Slam does have its uses it's not something I recommend investing a lot of points into early on.

Endurance: This skill increases your carrying capacity by 15lbs per rank. I personally don't find this skill to be as useful on a Barbarian Warrior as other classes since we invest so many points into Strength when we level up anyway. However, it usually never hurts to put a few points into this skill so we can lug around more loot and potions.

Critical Hit: Critical Hit is one of the best skills for this class, it applies a long lasting buff to you that increases your Critical Hit chance. With max Critical Hit you'll have over 60% chance to crit your target.

Dual Wield: As the name of this skill suggests, it allows you to wield 2 weapons at once. You have 2 choices as this class, you can decide to use a 2h weapon or you can pick up Dual Wield and use 2 weapons. I personally prefer Dual Wield so I typically pick this up.

Ancestral Call: Ancestral Call is your second bread and butter active ability. Like I said earlier (and like the ability says in game) it increases your total damage and the speed at which you attack. Before any tough fights you'll want to use both Ancestral Call and Critial Hit - each buff will last quite a bit of time once you invest enough points into them.
