If you're using an emulator you will be able to input the codes found on this page directly into the program and use them. For those of you who are old school and playing on a physical console, you'll have to purchase a Game Genie device to use them.

Only works when you are moving to the right

Don't fall when you walk off ledges (Walk on air): ABFT-EA7N
Press Jump to drop down. Also works on ledges and floating platforms

Enabled World and Level Select in Pause: AB0T-CAG4
When you pause you'll be able to replace the two digits in the timer. Up and Down will change the world, Left and Right will change the level.
Once you select what you want press A + B + C in combination, you'll return to the Title Screen and start your level.
