Lufia and the Fortress of Doom - Dragon Eggs Locations & Side Quest
The only side quest in Lufia & The Fortress of Doom is the quest to collect all 8 dragon balls for a magical wish granting dragon. However, they're not dragon balls in this world they're Dragon Eggs. You can find these Dragon Eggs throughout the entire game in pretty obvious chests.
You can find Shenron - I mean the red dragon southwest of Herat. Warp over there and fly across the desert, keep an eye out for a very small shrine that only takes up one tile on the map. This small shrine is where you'll find the dragon (pictured below) that will grant your wishes.
In this game you can choose from four different wishes, each of them are listed below.
1. Everyone gets 2 levels
2. You get 3 of each stat-boosting potion
3. A Might Shield
3. A Might Bow
Everything you read online says that the best options to choose here are the Might Shield and the Might Bow. If you use Jerin to attack then the Might Bow is a good option, however if all you use Jerin for is the Wind Flute during battle then having an upgraded Bow on her won't do you much good.
Might Shield is a best in slot piece of equipment for all of your characters which is why most people get this item. Ultimately the choice of wish is yours, I would recommend against the "Everyone gets 2 levels" wish though as it's easy enough to get levels yourself.
Below you'll find a list of where each Dragon Egg is found. I have included a list of all 8 original egg locations as well as the locations after you have your first and second wishes granted.
First Dragon Egg Locations:
1. Old Cave (Second Floor): This dungeon is found north of Grenoble and is part of the Grenoble Adventurer's Guild Side Quest. It's the one where you return here every 5 levels to unlock a new floor of this dungeon. The Dragon Egg is found inside of the toxic marsh area, it's in one of the two chests here.
2. Ghost Cave: Use Warp to travel to Kirof, the Ghost Cave is north of this town on a small island surrounded by water. You'll find this game's generic red haired NPC standing out front too. Check out Chapter 1 of my Walkthrough for a picture of the location. This egg is found in a location near the HP/MP restoration tiles. You'll need to take a set of stairs up into a small enclosure which has this egg.
3. Red Tower: You'll find this inside of the Red Tower's basement after you clear the dungeon, check out Chapter 2 of my Walkthrough for more info. If you missed this previously teleport to Ruan to get here.
4. Cave West of Odel: Warp to Odel and travel southwest following the coastline to the furthest cave. During the story you'll have to enter this cave to cross the bridge that Piron makes; I remember this being in an obvious location and easy to find.
5. Tower of Grief: This dungeon is found west of Arus. Go inside and keep going straight right up the stairs, you'll be lead to 3 chests one of which has the Dragon Egg.
6. Linze: The building in the NE part of town with the stairs going down. We went through this basement to reach the Gayas Island Cave during the story, go down the red hallway to find a few chests, one has the Dragon Egg.
7. Gayas Island Cave: You'll find this cave east of Linze, you can reach it by going through the basement or landing near the cave east on the World Map. Go down the stairs in this dungeon and travel west, the egg is easy to find.
8. Ulupp Island Cave: Travel north of Marse until you hit an island with a cave. Enter into it and take the teleporter near the entrance, it'll put you into a cave with red walls. This is Ulupp Island Cave. You'll find the Dragon Egg in this large and linear room. Check out Chapter 3 of my Walkthrough for the location.
Second Dragon Egg Locations:
1. Alekia Castle: Go up to the roof of the castle (the throne room will be in the middle of the top floor/roof). From the entrance of the throne room go around the right side of the castle and down the two flights of stairs to find the chest with this egg.
2. Belgen: Search the cave behind the church in town to find the egg inside of a chest.
3. Cave west of Linze: Use Warp to quickly travel to Linze, board your airship and fly a tad bit west to the cave opening you see (it's on the other side of a mountain). Land near here and enter the cave, the egg we need is the only chest in this entire cave.
4. Cave SW of Belgen: Warp to Belgen and travel south to the coast - follow the coast west to reach a cave. Inside of this cave you'll want to go down two sets of stairs to find the chest with the Dragon Egg.
5. Elba Island Cave: Travel to Marse using Warp and go directly north to find Elba Island Cave. Go inside of the cave and climb down all of the ladders, you'll find the chest in the bottom left hand side of the cave.
6. Underwater near Soshette: Warp back to Soshette and get into your boat, use one of the eddy here to go back underwater. If you take the eddy west of Soshette go south when you get underwater and enter the cave entrance you find. This is the cave that has the egg - you'll have to ride a far away water current to this location.
7. Oil Cave: Warp to the town of Epro and travel north (a tad bit west too, maybe two tiles) until you find a cave surrounded by toxic marsh. Enter into the cave (if it has red walls you're in the right place) and navigate down to the 2nd floor. You'll find the egg here.
8. Northwest Tower: From Grenoble you'll want to travel northwest to find this tower. It's located on the peninsula in the same location where you'd expect to find a lighthouse. You'll find the egg at the top of this tower.
Third Dragon Egg Locations:
1. Cave to Guy's House: Warp to the town of Treck and follow the coast east across two bridges until you reach a cave. This cave is extremely small and you'll find the egg inside.
2. Sheran Castle: Warp to Sheran and enter the castle, climb the stairs to reach the throne room up top and you'll find the egg inside of the chest on the right.
3. Lyden: Use your Warp spell to travel to Lyden, enter town and go down the stairs in the large kitchen in the center part of town. You'll find the Dragon Egg in one of these chests.
4. Old Cave (7th Floor): Travel to Grenoble and visit the Old Cave on the small island northwest of it. Go down to the 7th floor and you'll find the Dragon Egg in a chest on this floor.
5. Purple Newt Cave: If you forgot where this cave is, Warp to Herat and fly your ship a tad bit east to the first cave entrance you see. The egg is found in a chest on the eastern side of this dungeon.
6. North Glasdar Cave: This egg is found inside of the cave north of Glasdar Tower - you previously got the Glasdar Key from inside of here. In order to get this egg you'll have to return to this dungeon and flip the switch so that it's up. This will allow you to access the chest in the same room with this switch and get your egg.
7. Cave to Glasdar Tower: Remember that super long cave we went through to reach Glasdar Tower? Our next egg to find is in here. From Arubus you'll want to travel west and then a tad bit north to find this cave entrance. If you need help check my Chapter 4 Walkthrough. The Dragon Egg is found in the middle of the cave with blue walls (the second cave you come across). You'll pass right by it on the way to the next egg.
8. Glasdar Tower: Go inside of the tower and up to the room with the switches that I show you in my Chapter 4 Walkthrough. Step on the right two switches in the switch room and follow the linear path until you find the treasure room. There are 10 chests in total here and one has the egg.
