The game follows the adventures of Roddick Farrence, the main protagonist, as he embarks on a journey to save his planet, Roak, from an impending disaster caused by an alien race known as the Ten Wise Men. Along the way, Roddick meets other characters with their own unique abilities and motivations, and together they unravel the secrets of the universe and engage in epic battles against formidable foes.

Star Ocean: First Departure features real-time action combat, where players can engage in battles with various enemies and bosses using a combination of physical attacks, magical spells, and special abilities.
