Thanatos Tower Walkthrough - Persona 1

Thanatos Tower Walkthrough

Thanatos Tower is the hardest tower of the Snow Queen Quest for a few different reasons. Inside of this dungeon you will find high level enemies that use one-shot mechanics and high level elemental magics against your party. As if this wasn't bad enough any time a character in your party dies inside this dungeon their Persona will be "sealed" in Tartarus.

When a character's Persona is sealed inside Tartarus you will no longer be able to use any Persona abilities until you either complete the dungeon or reclaim their Persona from Tartarus. You can find Tartarus on the 2nd floor of the Thanatos Tower - enter the small room in the southeast of Thanatos Tower 2F and you'll be transported to Tartarus.

If you are struggling with the Thanatos Tower my two biggest pieces of advice are to use the Contact System to avoid combat with enemies and/or use Estoma. With the Contact System, you'll have to collect most of the enemies Spell Cards once you get to this dungeon. Once you've collected their Spell Card you'll be able to make them leave battle without a fight by using Contact on them a second time.

Alternatively, you can raise your level high enough to use Estoma and avoid combat with the demons here entirely. This will require you to spend 10+ hours grinding in either the Nemesis Tower or Devil's Peak before you challenge this dungeon though. I personally recommend the Estoma route since this is the most reliable method of getting through the dungeon while avoiding combat. To make this work you'll need to level up to 35+.

Blow Out Candle Thanatos Tower
Make sure you blow out the right candle to disable Yukino's Persona instead of the MC.

Upon entering Thanatos Tower one of the first rooms you come across will force you to make a decision between blowing out two candles. If you blow out the candle to the left of the door you'll disable the Main Character's Persona - this is usually the bad choice. The candle on the right will disable Yukino's Persona. You have to blow out at least one of these candles to proceed.

Tip: Get the Estoma ability to avoid battles with enemies! This will make the entire Thanatos Tower significantly easier.

Inside of the room on this floor you'll be given a choice between two treasure chests. The chest on the left will give you a Mirror Shard when you open it whereas the chest on the right will seal Ayase's Persona. Obviously, you'll want to choose the chest on the left so that we can get another Mirror Shard and avoid losing Ayase's Persona.

You won't be able to collect all 12 Mirror Shards if you choose the wrong chest here so keep that in mind!

On Thanatos Tower 7F you'll face the final boss of this dungeon, Thanatos and his tentacle army. The tentacles he summons have reversed strengths and weaknesses. Half of them absorb elemental damage whereas the other half are vulnerable to it; the same is true for Force damage.

For this boss fight what I typically do is spam my strongest AoE attacks - with an emphasis placed on attacks that deal Fire damage. Thanatos is weak to Fire damage in both his primary form and his "defeated" form where he's just a floating eyeball. Essentially all I ever do for this fight is spam my strongest attacks until half the enemies are dead then I stop spamming the attacks that the surviving enemies absorb. Simple strategy but effective.

Thanatos Weaknesses: Fire, Nuclear, Tech, Rush, Gun
Thanatos Strengths: Absorbs Curse damage

Recommended Personas: Lilim (Moon), Vidofnir (Sun), Marduk (Emperor), Brigid (Empress)

After defeating the boss you will be teleported out of the dungeon and given Ambrosia along with a Mirror Shard.
