Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness is a tactical role-playing game developed by Nippon Ichi Software and published by NIS America for the PlayStation Portable (PSP) handheld gaming console. It was originally released in Japan in 2006, and later in North America and Europe in 2007. The game follows the story of Laharl, a young demon prince who wakes up from a two-year slumber to discover that his father, the Overlord of the Netherworld, has died. With aspirations of becoming the next Overlord, Laharl sets out on a quest to claim his birthright and become the ruler of the Netherworld. Along the way, he meets a cast of colorful characters, including the angelic trainee Flonne and the sarcastic demon girl Etna, who join him on his journey.
Disgaea: Afternoon of Darkness features a unique tactical combat system, where players must strategically move their characters on a grid-based battlefield, positioning them for optimal attacks and defenses. The game also boasts a deep character customization system, allowing players to level up their characters, equip them with various weapons and equipment, and learn new skills and abilities.
