Magic Banana Monster Raising Method

Long Living Monster

As I talked about in my How to Raise a Monster Guide; feeding your monster Magic Bananas can increase your monster's life span. This page is dedicated to a quick list for people who would like to follow this method and more information about how this method works. If you haven't already, read my Guide on Useful Items in MR2. This talks about Magic Bananas as well as other items and what they do.

Let me just say this, unless you're playing on a Ps1 emulator like the ePSXe doing the Magic Banana method is going to be such a large pain in the butt you probably won't even want to bother. Since Magic Bananas don't always increase a monster's life span and you have to "roll the dice" there'll be a lot of resetting/loading save states.

Basically how it goes is like this, feed your monster a Magic Banana and if their Loyalty doesn't decrease you need to reset/load save state and feed them the Magic Banana again. If their Loyalty increases you actually lose a week off of your monster's life span which is obviously not good at all.

To get started, you'll be using the very same route for childhood monsters that I talked about in my How to Raise a Monster Guide. If you're already familiar with this method then skip past this down to the adolescent stage.

Childhood Week #1:

Tablets; Magic Bananas; Hard Drill

Childhood Week #2:

Childhood Week #3:
Nut OilHard Drill
Nut Oil; Hard Drill

Childhood Week #4:
Mint Leaf + Rest

Once your monster turns into an adolescent things will change a bit. First you need to keep in mind that doing the Magic Banana method will decrease your monster's loyalty. That means when you choose to Battle with this monster, you'll be increasing the chance it does foolery. Typically when I do the Magic Banana route, I do it until about half way or 3/4 of the way through a monster's prime.

Then I will switch my monster back to the regular regimen of nothing but Nut Oil and Mint Leaf. It only takes two or three months to build up Loyalty again at which point I will start participating in Battles. The second thing you need to keep in mind with the Magic Banana method is your monster will be more likely to get fat and you won't be able to have as rigorous a training regimen.

That's really all there is to the Magic Banana method. While this method is a total pain in the butt with having to reset your console or load save states constantly, it's the only way for you to reliably get your monster to live longer. As discussed in the list of items for Monster Rancher 2, Gold and Silver Peaches will also extend your monster's life but you can only feed them 1 of each during their lifetime.

If you're wondering about the benefit of this training method over the primary one I recommend in my How to Raise a Monster Guide; it's only better to do the Magic Banana training regimen when you start out with an already powerful monster. You won't be able to fit in as many drills as the monster grows up by doing the Magic Banana method which means you'll need to make up for the lesser stat gains in another way.... Unless you want to waste thousands of gold on raising a weak old monster.
