BoF IV - Dragon Summoning Locations and Guide
In Breath of Fire IV there are 6 Dragons hidden throughout the game that you can ask for help in your quest. The first one of these that you come across is the Mud Dragon which is found in South Desert. Your first time here you won't be able to ask him for assistance, it isn't until later in the game after you speak with Abbess and learn about Ryu's destiny will you be able to request help.
Don't confuse the 6 Dragons on this page with the Dragon Gems you can find throughout the game. The Dragons on this page grant you abilities which have 1 charge, only able to be recharged when you Rest at an Inn. The Dragon Gems grant you different forms that you can transform into with Ryu.
Mud Dragon Location
The Mud Dragon is one of the easiest Dragons to find since we've already met him and know where he is. Just north of the Dam in the South Desert region you'll find a ? on the map. Enter this area and venture over to the cliff side, the Mud Dragon will be standing right there.
Grass Dragon Location
First go to Tarhn's house and speak with her, she'll mention a Shining Bird in the Golden Plains that when followed will lead you to the Grass Dragon. Now, head to the Golden Plains and get ready to participate, again, in the worst mini game ever created.
When you arrive in the Golden Plains travel directly East (straight; since East is the direction you face when entering) you'll eventually find yourself at the giant rock from the first time we were here. Wait at this rock for the Shining Bird to arrive if it isn't already here. Take a look at my screen shot below for an example of what you're looking for.
Once you see the Shining Bird all you need to do is follow it to find the Grass Dragon. It flies pretty high up so it may be difficult to follow if you're too close behind it. Based on my experience, it only goes in one direction - the bird lead me pretty far Northwest to the Grass Dragon.
Sand Dragon Location
Get in the Sandflier and begin the minigame to travel between the Shyde - Shikk regions. You'll notice that at the bottom of the map (shown in my screen shot above) there's a piece of the map which has no connection to the rest of it. In order to reach this part of the map you'll need to be going at a high speed with your Sandflier and hit the mound of sand just to the north of the the sectioned off area on the map.
Tree Dragon Location
Travel the road south of Shikk between it and the Chkpoint and you'll come across an ? on the Map. This question mark will always be in the same spot which should hopefully make it stand out amongst the other ? mark locations you come across.
Enter this question mark and take one of the two exits, if it doesn't open up another path on the map then go back to this location and take the other path out. One of the two paths will open up the map location to the Tree Dragon.
Sea Dragon Location
The Sea Dragon is found during that annoying mini game where you have to drive the boat around the ocean. Luckily, if you know where you're going you don't have to use the sails at all. I have tested it and confirmed that you can get there by just using Row with plenty of time left. Check below for directions from either town.
From Lyp head northwest; you can reach it by only using your ores before you run out of supplies. You don't even need to use sails.
From Shikk you'll want to mostly head north but a little bit west too. There's no indicator that the Sea Dragon is here, you have to use Explore where I am parked in the screen shot above. If you'd like to see someone find the Sea Dragon in a video check this out.
Rock Dragon Location
First, in order to unlock the location you need on the map you'll need to speak with the man at the river south of Chiqua. You had to progress through this area during the game and you pass right by the person you need to talk to, you even likely talked to him.
If you missed him and the spot isn't on your map, go to Chiqua then go south once to find this location, then solve the puzzles by pushing the Crates with Cray to get down to this person. Once you're here talk to him about dragons. Tell him that you've seen one and when he asks what they look like tell him all different things. He'll ask you to specify to which you'll reply, like grass and rocks.
This will jog the person's memory and he'll tell you about a place where he saw something similar to what you're describing. When you exit this location and return to the World Map, there'll be a new location on the World Map with a ? next to where you found this guy. Head over to that location to find the Rock Dragon.
