Sonic Advance 3 Controller Layout & Button Combinations

Controls

D-Pad or Left Analog Stick: Move character
A Button: Jump, confirm menu options
B Button: Spin Dash, cancel menu options
R Button: Tag Action
L Button: Cycle through team formation
Start Button: Pause game
Select Button: Nothing

 

Team Controls:
Press L Button to cycle through the following team formations:

Sonic Alone
Tails Alone
Knuckles Alone
Sonic & Tails
Sonic & Knuckles
Tails & Knuckles
Sonic, Tails & Knuckles

When playing as Sonic and Tails, press the R Button to perform a Tag Action:

Tails carries Sonic and can fly for a short time
Sonic carries Tails and can perform a Boost Jump
Sonic and Tails hold hands and perform a Spin Attack together

Note: The controls may vary slightly depending on the version of the game you are playing.
