Progression Server Spell Research Guide (Classic)
Spell Research allows you to make spells that you couldn't otherwise acquire or that would be otherwise extremely difficult to acquire. Until PoP it's one of the only ways to get a lot of the useful spells for some classes, like some Necromancer and Mage pets as well as many other spells for many other classes. PoP devalues the Tradeskill a little since you can buy all your spells in one place but it still has its uses.
As with all Tradeskills, for the first 21 points you will want to visit your Guildmaster and spend some practices.

Past 243 you will want to make any spells you can that will give you a skill up. A good way to level up Researching for little to no cost is make spells for anyone who needs it. As long as they supply the mats you got a free shot at a combine! Also there are quite a few different combines you can do with the researching hides that drop from mostly all of the humanoid creatures.
