The Snow Globe - NWN Side Quest (Chapter 3)
The Snow Globe is a quest that begins by speaking with Lillian Cambridge in the Drinking House of Beorunna's Well. She will direct you to the Wizard's Dungeon in the Coldwood map which is where you will find someone by the name of Nax who has the Snow Globe. There will be 3 Coldwood maps and all of them are named the same thing, the Wizard's Dungeon is specifically in the eastern Coldwood map.
Despite the quest telling you to talk with Nax inside of the Wizard's Dungeon he does not actually have the Snow Globe. Although, he is involved in the Free Nax side quest which can net you some EXP or a magical item if you complete it. Nax also tells you how to get the Snow Globe but you don't need that information since you have me!
In the northern portion of the Wizard's Dungeon you'll find a room with 4 gongs and when you click on each of them it'll make the noise of a different animal. You have to activate these gongs in the correct order to solve the puzzle and open the door that leads to the Snow Globe.
The correct order to hit the gongs in can be found below. When you hit the gongs in the incorrect order you'll get an error message, "Something seems wrong."
1. A Puma snarls
2. A Dog barks
3. A Bear growls
4. A Dragon roars
After performing the correct order on the gongs the door will swing open and you'll be able to pick up the Snow Globe from the pedestal. Now what you'll need to do is return the Snow Globe to Lillian Cambridge in the Drinking House of Beorunna's Well and go through all of her dialogue.
You will learn that the Snow Globe is actually a miniature world that you'll have to enter for the Words of Power. After your conversation with Lillian you'll find the Snow Globe upstairs in her bedroom on another pedestal (pictured below). Interact with it and you'll be given a few options that I will explain in more detail below..
So, how this Snow Globe works will be confusing at first but pretty straight forward once you understand. There are 2 different worlds within the Snow Globe and you can rotate it to change which you enter. In one of them the dwarves are the enemy and will endlessly attack you and in the other one the dryads are the enemy.
To complete this quest you will need to enter the Snow Globe and obtain the Amulet of Ages from inside of the White Dragon Cave (pictured below). You can find the White Dragon Cave in the center of the Snow Globe map on both worlds; this means the first time you enter the Snow Globe it doesn't matter which world you choose.
Once you've obtained the Amulet of Ages you will need to visit the dwarves (when they're friendly) and speak with Hodd to repair the amulet. After it's been repaired you'll need to exit the Snow Globe and rotate it so that the dryads are friendly then speak with Arwyl to get the amulet enchanted.
With the enchanted amulet in your possession all that's left is to defeat the White Dragon. Before we do that though I would like to point out that the dwarves and dryads will infinitely respawn inside of this Snow Globe. If you're bored and you'd like to farm some EXP you can do so pretty easily in this map. You will only get 2 or 3 EXP per kill but you can safely leave your character and go AFK if you have pets that can help you fight enemies.
How to solve the Snow Globe Puzzle:
1. Obtain the Amulet of Ages
2. Enter the Dwarf World and get the Amulet repaired
3. Enter the Dryad World and get the Amulet enchanted
4. Defeat the Guardian White Dragon
Another thing to mention too is the Amulet of Ages is not required to defeat the Guardian White Dragon but it will make the fight easier. This amulet will grant you Cold Resistance as well as Saving Throws against Cold, since this dragon deals primarily cold damage it'll be quite useful against him.
One last thing to mention is that once you've finished the Amulet of Ages if it's equipped on your character or in your inventory then it'll make the Guardian White Dragon hostile the next time you get near him. For this reason make sure you're buffed up and ready to fight before getting close to him.
The fight against the Guardian White Dragon can be really hard depending on the class you are playing and how well you've spent your Feats and Attributes up to this point. Before the fight it's highly recommended that you drink a lot of drugs (potions) and buff all stats that you use. If you're a spell caster you'll also want to buff yourself and your Henchman with whatever you have available that will help.
If you find this fight too difficult you can always use the Stone of Recall spam method. This typically involves using Stone of Recall each time your Henchman dies to resurrect him and/or each time you need to refresh your spells with a Rest. You will be able to cheese the fight this way because the dragon will not regen a lot of health while you're gone (assuming you don't take a long time in town).
Once you've defeated the dragon loot the chest near the throne in this room to find the Word of Power along with some other useful goodies. After looting the Words of Power a Portal will appear nearby on the ground which you can use to leave the Snow Globe and return to town.
