Investigate The Elk Tribe - NWN Side Quest (Chapter 3)

Investigate the Elk Tribe is a side quest that begins by speaking with Yusam in the Druid Grove portion of Beorunna's Well. While talking to him offer to help him with investigating the Elk Tribe and you'll be given this quest. This side quest intertwines with another one in the area, The Siege of Fort Ilkard. If you progress The Siege of Fort Ilkard too far and end up breaching Elk Tribe Keep it'll make the entire map hostile and will result in you getting the "bad" reward for this quest.

In order to solve this quest you'll want to enter Elk Tribe Keep peacefully and have a dialogue with Zokan inside. To accomplish this the first thing you need to do is find Uncas, the captured Elk Tribesman. Uncas can be found inside of a cave in the northwestern portion of the Fort Ilkard map. You'll be visiting this cave during the Save The Supply Lines quest as well to defeat one of the Orc leaders, Guzud.

Uncas will give you the Feather of Peace item which you'll need to show to the guard outside of Elk Tribe Keep to gain entry. As aforementioned without this item the entire Elk Tribe Keep will be hostile to you and you will get the lesser reward for finishing this quest. It's worth noting that what turns Elk Tribe Keep hostile is killing the guard out front.

Once you've entered the keep this way it breaks this quest as you can never have friendly dialogue with Zokan. You'll find Zokan in the central portion of the Elk Tribe Keep, approach him and speak with him to learn about his people and why they are attacking Fort Ilkard.

At this point in time technically the quest will branch off and you'll have 2 different ways to complete it. I'll explain more about the two different outcomes below. Keep in mind as well that your decisions during this quest will directly affect the outcome of The Siege of Fort Ilkard quest as well.

 

Kill Zokan: If you decide to attack Zokan or you've entered the Elk Tribe Keep and made everyone hostile your only way to complete the quest will be defeat Zokan and return to Yusam with the news. As previously stated this will get you a lesser reward over all.

Help Zokan: When you talk to Zokan you'll learn that Commander Damas infected all of Zokan's people with the Wailing Death by giving them infected blankets. Zokan asks you to retrieve the cure that Commander Damas has and return it to him so that he can save his people. If you do decide to help Zokan you'll be given the Dreamcatcher item which you'll want to return to Yusam for the best reward to this quest.
