Free Nax - NWN Side Quest (Chapter 3)

Free Nax is a side quest that begins inside of the Wizard's Dungeon which is located in the eastern portion of Coldwood. You will find a portal in the eastern portion of that Coldwood map which will teleport you inside of this dungeon. Nax is in a jail cell in the southeastern portion of the area, check the map if you need his exact location.

In order to free Nax what you'll have to do is collect a Slaad's Tongue along with the Ring of Melf from this dungeon and use both on the Summoning Pool to summon a Water Elemental. You can find a few Slaad's Tongues throughout the dungeon if you don't already have one - just loot everything.

Ring of Melf is found in a specific room in the northeastern portion of the dungeon, use my map screenshot below if you need help finding it.

With a Slaad's Tongue and Ring of Melf in hand you'll want to visit the "Elemental Water" location that's marked on my map. In this room you'll find a Summoning Pool (pictured above) which is what you'll want to put the Slaad's Tongue inside of. Equip the Ring of Melf and then right click it to use Melf's Acid Arrow on the Summoning Pool.

A Water Elemental will come out and you'll be able to speak with it and ask it for a few different things. The magical item you'd get from the Water Elemental isn't all that impressive and I think the EXP for freeing Nax is probably a better reward. So choose that option and then Nax will be teleported to you.

You'll learn that Nax does not have the Snow Globe, gold or any magical items. All he has is some information about how to obtain the Snow Globe which... yay. Regardless, once you go through his dialogue or exit dialogue with him he'll leave the dungeon and the quest completes.
