Halo Reach (Mission 8) New Alexandria Walkthrough
Video Walkthrough: (Mission 8) New Alexandria Walkthrough
Datapad Locations: Datapad #7 Location and Datapad #16 Location
New Alexandria is the next mission for us in Reach and this one is going to take place almost entirely in a Falcon. You begin this mission ontop of a roof next to a Falcon that you'll want to get inside. There will be a brief tutorial telling you how to drive this thing - thankfully it's not too complicated.
Unlike basically every previous mission, this one is non-linear. There are 3 locations that you need to visit during this mission and which order they're done in is completely random. At the start of the mission you'll get contacted over the radio by Kat telling you to go to one of these three locations. Once you complete this location you'll be given another one at random followed by whichever location you've yet to finish.
Datapads: Those of you interested in getting the Datapads on this mission will be happy to know that you can get both of them from the very start of the mission without any combat needed. Check out my Datapad #7 Location Youtube Video for more information and my Datapad #16 Location Youtube Video for more information about the Legendary only one.
At one point during the mission you'll be asked to complete a mandatory side objective too which varies. Sometimes you have to save some Marines that are pinned down by Jackals, sometimes you have to destroy some turrets, sometimes it's destroying Banshees and sometimes you have to help escort Buck and his ODST team out of New Alexandria. There's actually an Achievement called New Way to Save A Buck that you'll get for helping Buck.
There are a few more Achievements on this mission too that you can get all at the same time inside of the Club Errera. The names of these Achievements are, Front Page News, Play Us A Sad Song Claude and HBOrg Special. Follow any of the links provided to be taken to my video explaining how to get these Achievements.
Since this entire mission is non-linear I am going to break the rest of this Walkthrough up into 3 different parts - one part for each of the three targets that we need to visit.
New Alexandria Hospital
The New Alexandria Hospital is found in the northeastern portion of the map, there won't be any enemies on the landing pad of the hospital but there will be turrets nearby that you have to take out before landing. Our goal inside of the hospital is to disable a jammer which is found in an outdoor atrium. When you first enter the hospital you'll need to work your way down a circular staircase and then through a lobby to reach the atrium.
In the lobby you may notice an Engineer enemy which gives shields to all Covenant in the area (there is one near the jammer too). My advice is to take this guy out first if at all possible - use an overcharged Plasma Pistol to strip the shields and it's an easy kill after that. Even if you can't eliminate him first you should do it before you leave since you don't want double shields on enemies that spawn on your way back.
As you can probably already guess there will be dozens of Covenant between you and the jammer. When you get close enough to the jammer the location will be added to your HUD so finding it should not be a problem at all. After destroying the jammer you'll cause a bunch of jetpack Elites to spawn in the atrium which you will have to deal with on your way out.
Sinoviet Center
The Sinoviet Center is heavily guarded with turrets and Covenant around the landing pad. Before going in for a landing I strongly recommend you spend some time clearing out the surrounding area. After landing your Falcon head up the stairs and you'll get a HUD marker for a nearby elevator at the top of all the stairs.
Hop into the elevator and ride it up into the tower. At first there will be no enemies inside of this tower at all - so spend time exploring for weapons, ammo or new armor abilities now. The moment that we destroy the jammer inside of this tower Drones will flood in and start attacking. It's up to you if you'd like to fight the Drones or not, I recommend that you skip them and make a mad dash to the elevator after disabling the jammer.
Ride the elevator down and return to the Falcon to continue with the mission.
Club Errera
Just like the Sinoviet Center there are going to be a lot of enemies on the Club Errera landing pad that you'll have to deal with before you can safely land. If you plan to get the bulk of the Achievements associated with this mission then now is the time. Check out my video links at the top of this guide for more information about all of the Achievements you can do in this building.
Inside of Club Errera you'll find a couple of Marines fighting off Hunters. Technically you do not need to kill these Hunters, all you need to do is disable the jammer so keep that in mind. Also, don't try to melee the Hunters - it normally never ends well for people who attempt that. If you need ammo, better weapons or a Health Pack I recommend you search the surrounding areas.
Once you disable the jammer inside of this club return to your Falcon and proceed to the next objective.
Now that you have completed all 3 objectives you will get another message from Kat telling you to return home to the ONI Building, this will appear on your HUD as Olympic Tower. When you get close enough to the ONI Building you'll be asked to destroy the various Anti-Air Turrets in the area. All of them will be marked on your HUD with little red arrows so finding them should not be a problem.
Once all of the AA Turrets are destroyed all that's left is to land on a platform at the ONI Building when you get the new HUD marker for that. Landing here will trigger a cutscene after which the mission will be complete.
