Halo 3 ODST (Mission 10) Coastal Highway Walkthrough

Coastal Highway Buck Dare and Vergil In Town

Video Walkthrough: Halo 3 ODST (Mission 10) Coastal Highway Walkthrough

The final mission of Halo 3 ODST is called Coastal Highway and it begins with you inside the city of New Mombasa. Night is finally over and daylight is on the horizon now - but the Covenant are still out in force across the entire city. One thing you will quickly notice about this mission is that the entire thing is very heavily scripted.

For the first part of this mission all you need to do is clear all of the Covenant in your way and stay close to Buck and Dare. Like in the previous mission you'll have to protect Vergil from the Covenant. Vergil stays in the back for the most part - but it's important you don't leave any stragglers alive as they'll shoot at Vergil when he goes through the area.

Buck and Dare will lead you through the city and into a small room where you'll be tasked with activating a switch. This will start a cutscene after which you'll regain control of your character on a highway (pictured below).

The rest of this mission doesn't require much of a guide because of how heavily scripted it all is. Essentially what you're going to be doing for this part is following Dare down the highway and clearing out all of the Covenant that you can. The only thing that's required for this part to advance the story is following Dare. You don't need to kill any Covenant and I don't even think you need to protect Dare. All you need to do is follow her.

Each part of the highway is going to be broken up into a section that's separated by a bulkhead and a small room. You will need to wait until Vergil opens the bulkhead then park inside of the room separating the two sections of the highway until Vergil opens the next bulkhead.

Inside of each room between the bulkheads you'll often find Health Packs incase you need them and sometimes new vehicles or weapons and ammo. You start this mission with a Machine Gun Warthog, about half way through the mission you'll be able to trade the Machine Gun Warthog for a Gauss Warthog which you'll find inside one of the bulkhead rooms.

Shortly after finding the room with a Gauss Warthog you'll come across another room with a Scorpion Tank inside of it! If you're playing single player I strongly recommend that you use the Scorpion Tank. Co-op players should have one person in the Scorpion Tank and one person with the Gauss Warthog using Buck on the gunner.

Eventually you will reach the end of the highway and Buck will tell you to take the nearby off ramp that goes below the highway and spits you out near a plaza. You will have to leave your vehicle behind to enter the large plaza but that's ok because we don't need it anymore anyway.

Any of you who have played Halo 3 ODST's Firefight mode may recognize this area as the Last Exit Firefight Map. The last part of this mission plays out more or less exactly the same as a game of Firefight too. What you're tasked with for the rest of this mission is to defend the large building that you secured and wait for evac.

Phantoms will fly through the area and drop off some Covenant that you'll have to deal with. Keep fighting any Covenant that you see and make sure to keep the Engineer (Vergil) safe from enemies. Once all Covenant are dead the Phantom we stole during the previous mission with our ODST squad will show up and fly us out of here.

Once you board the Phantom with your ODST team this mission will be complete and so will the game.
