The final mission of Halo 1 is called The Maw and it takes place in a destroyed version of the Pillar of Autumn. For the most part this mission is another one that is very linear - follow the only route available through the various hallways and maintenance shafts until you come across the Cafeteria.
You'll fight some of the most challenging Elites in the game inside of this Cafeteria and it could be a really tough fight depending on what difficulty you're playing on. Shortly after the Cafeteria you'll come across the Bridge which should look familiar considering this is where we originally met Keyes at the start of the game.
After Cortana tells you to upload her into the ship stand in the same location you met Keyes earlier in the game until you get a cutscene. On Co-op you'll need all players standing in this location to proceed. When the cutscene is over you'll have to defeat the wave of Sentinels that attack you. Once they're all taken care of then it's time to proceed to the Armory.
Don't bother with these enemies - they won't follow you if you run
Technically visiting the Armory is optional but you'll want to do it for ammo and a Rocket Launcher. On your way to the Armory you will pass through a room called Cryo B (you'll see an arrow on the floor outside the doorway to this room). Climb up the ladder in this room to reach the second floor - to reach the Armory you'll have to go through the computer room that's above the Cryo B room and down the nearby hallway.
Inside of the computer room you'll find the Terminal for The Maw; if you're interested in grabbing it for the Achievement I recommend you do so now. For more information on this Terminal check out my The Maw Terminal Location Youtube Video.
After the room with this Terminal you'll have another maintenance shaft to go through and a few more hallways until you arrive in the area with the Armory. Much like before you'll want to pay attention to the notifications on the ground around the doors. A screenshot is below of what the Armory arrow looks like so you know what to look for.
You'll find tons of ammo and various weapons inside of the Armory - while you're browsing the selection some invisible Flood will come in to attack you. Keep your eyes open and your ears because you'll be able to hear the door open then hear them approach. When you leave the Armory you'll want to have a Shotgun and a Rocket Launcher.
Our next stop is Engineering, you can find the door that leads to Engineering just outside the Armory. Again, you'll want to look for the arrow on the ground outside of the door; the Engineering arrow is going to be large and red just like the Armory one. Cortana will notify you once you're in the right place and she'll explain what you need to do.
Inside of the Engine Room there are 3 vents that you need to destroy. You can use a Rocket Launcher or a Grenade - the choice is entirely up to you. Though I will admit that it is significantly easier to accomplish this with a Rocket Launcher. When using a Grenade you'll have to both time and position your throw perfectly to get it into the vent far enough.
A picture of the vents you have to destroy is shown below. To open one of these vents like how you see in my screenshot below you will need to activate the computer terminal above them. Once a computer has been activated you'll hear some noise and a vent will open. Throw a Grenade or shoot a rocket into the vent and it'll explode - once it blows up it'll automatically close and you'll have to hit the next computer terminal to open the next vent.

Finding the computer terminals and vents will be a piece of cake since they'll all be marked on the HUD. Like Cortana said when you first entered, if you run out of ammo you can always return to the Armory which is just outside the entrance to the Engine Room. The Flood will drop Grenades pretty frequently too if you run out of rockets.

Tip: If you need a Health Pack during the event in this final room check the bulletin board looking things on the bottom level. When you go up either of the two slopes downstairs there will be a platform that you run across that leads to the doors with stairs up to the second floor. On these platforms you'll find the bulletin board looking things. Watch my video of this level and you'll see me grab a Health Pack the moment I enter the room. They shouldn't be hard for you to find.
Once you destroy all 3 vents in this room you'll get an update on your HUD which will send you into a room on the 2nd floor. Cortana will lead you through a few hallways until you reach an elevator with some Covenant enemies. Defeat them and hop on the elevator which will take you to a vehicle bay that's filled with Warthogs.
The rest of this level is going to be very straight forward and maybe difficult depending on how good you are at driving a Warthog. You have a total of 6 minutes to make it through this Warthog course, technically a little longer since the timer stops half way through for a quick scene.
My advice if you're struggling on the Warthog course is to avoid the Flood that go boom. The rest of them you can run over without any issues. If you're playing on higher difficulties avoid angering as many enemies as possible - they won't shoot at you (for the most part) unless you give them a reason to.

At the end of the Warthog course you'll have to disembark your vehicle and make a mad dash to the ship. I recommend you don't run down the middle section of this part and instead run along the outside portion of the left or right divider. All of the enemies spawn in the middle so it's safest on the outside.
