Halo Reach (MCC) Firefight Guide - Outpost

Outpost Loading Screen

Outpost is a map from the ONI: Sword Base mission of Reach's campaign and in my opinion is another one of the great Firefight maps in the game. The way this map works is you will spawn in or around one of the three buildings on the south side. Inside two of these buildings is where you'll find the ammo resupply stations if you're playing on normal Firefight. Specifically the large building in the SW has an ammo resupply inside it and behind it. There is also an ammo resupply in the very small eastern building.

When playing on normal Firefight modes you'll want to make this group of buildings your defensible position. Not only because this is where you resupply your ammo but also because it's the most defensible position on the entire map. Enemies will be unloaded via Drop Ships and spawn in the areas surrounding these buildings. Some of the enemy spawn points are close to these buildings but they'll never spawn inside of them.

As usual there are a few strategies you can use during the normal Firefight modes on this map. The most common is normally to split your team up with half watching one side and half watching the other. You could also have half your team be stationary and shoot enemies from a distance while the other half are roamers who run around the field and pick off enemies.

One of my favorite strategies on this map that caters to snipers like myself is to have two people in the central building and one person in the buildings on each side. This allows players to fall back to the main building if their side gets overwhelmed and it gives you more wiggle room when defending.

You should expect to see vehicles deployed on this map as well during all Firefight game modes. I've seen both Wraiths and Ghosts on this map and maybe even a Revenant if my memory serves correctly. Normally I see Ghosts regardless of the Firefight game mode and Wraiths I only see during normal Firefight modes. It's possible Wraiths spawn on all modes and I just haven't seen them though.

The more arcade like game modes for Firefight such as Fiesta, Rockets, Snipers, Fistfight and everything else will have you using a slightly different strategy. Normally for these game modes it comes down to an every man for himself mentality. The goal is rack up as many points as possible so you'll want to constantly go to the part of the map with the most enemies. Everyone has an overshield in these game modes too so risk is significantly lower.

I think the best advice I can give you for playing on the arcade game modes is to return to the center of the map after you clear each pack of enemies. This will put you right in the middle of both drop off points and allow you to go to whichever one has less people going to it. Normally that's how I approach things, if I see two people running to one Phantom I will go to the other one because 3 people in one spot is too many.

Extra Tips & Tricks

- When you are playing Sniper, Rocket, Fiesta or any of the other arcade game modes for Firefight you should always use a Jet Pack Loadout. When using a Jet Pack and getting a killing blow you'll be rewarded the Firebird Medal which will get you more EXP overall. You only get the Firebird Medal when you are holding down the button and ascending with the Jet Pack. Letting go of the button and scoring the KB on the descend will not earn you this medal.

- During normal Firefight modes the Target Locator will have its ammo restored after each round. For this reason it's strongly recommended you do not get rid of this weapon after you use up its ammo; if you die while holding the Target Locator return to where you died and pick it up again before it's despawned at the end of the round. As far as the best time to use the Target Locator, typically towards the end of the round. Not the final set because the final set is very small but the 3rd or 4th sets are normally when I end up using it.

- Want some advice on what weapons to use during Firefight and why? I have put together a Halo Reach Firefight Weapon Tier List that you may find helpful in determining what weapons you want to pick up and keep on your character.

- To easily commandeer a Wraith in Halo Reach all you need to do is take out the turret gunner and then hit the Wraith with a charged Plasma Pistol shot. A charged Plasma Pistol shot comes with an EMP effect which will immobilize the vehicle for a short amount of time. Now all you need to do is mount the Wraith and get into the turret gunner seat. This will cause the Covenant driving the Wraith to bail, allowing you to jump into the driver's seat as a result. If you'd like to see a video of this as an example check out my Halo Reach How to steal a Wraith with a Plasma Pistol Youtube Video.
