Halo 3 ODST (MCC) Firefight Guide - Windward
Windward is a Firefight map that's from the NMPD HQ Campaign mission. All players will start in the central building on the map with a Sniper Rifle on this map at the start of the game. Each time you die and respawn you'll be given a Silenced SMG instead of another Sniper Rifle. Inside the large central building that you spawn in you'll find numerous ammo supply stations for the Silenced SMG and Pistol along with numerous Health Packs.
On each side of the main building that you spawn in there will be two outdoor platforms that have walkways overtop of them. Enemies will spawn in these outside areas, they can be dropped off via Phantoms, come out of doors in the northeast and northwestern portion of the map or jump down from the walkways that cut across the top portion of the area.
Phantoms will drop off enemies in one of two places, either in the middle of the outdoor platforms or on the landing pads in the southern portion of the map. When enemies are dropped off onto the landing pads they will take one of two ways up to the platform area. One route is more direct and it takes you immediately out onto the platforms above. Another route goes through a round-about hallway that leads you through a door onto the platform above.
Above each of the landing pads outside you'll find a Missile Pod Turret which starts off mounted. I strongly recommend you leave it in place when playing on normal Firefight modes because you can use it to blast some Banshees out of the sky. Banshees do not appear during Floodfight so when you're playing that game mode you can do whatever you want with the turret.
While we are on the topic of the Missile Pod Turrets, on the eastern side of the map you'll find the Rocket Launcher spawn near the Missile Pod Turret. On the opposite side of the map you'll find the Shotgun spawn near the Missile Pod Turret, both of these weapons can be found mounted on the walls in plain sight.
If you are playing on Floodfight you'll also find a Battle Rifle spawn nearby the Rocket Launcher and an Assault Rifle spawn nearby the Shotgun. Both of these weapons will spawn with ammo supply stations so you can restock numerous times throughout the match. The Battle Rifle and Assault Rifle only spawn here during Floodfight modes.

My advice to you on this map depends on what game mode you are currently playing on. If you're playing on Firefight then I recommend that you stay inside the middle building as much as possible and only stick your nose out into the outside area when you're confident enough you won't die. Being outside is a very bad idea with the Phantoms and Banshees that fly around as well as uber-accurate Grunts when the Catch Skull is active.
During Floodfight the strategy changes a lot, instead of spending so much time inside of the central building you'll typically want to patrol around the entire map depending on enemies and your team. Normally the best strategy is to have half your team on one side of the map and half on the other side however this can change depending on how well each side is doing. If one side is getting overwhelmed then it's best to have one person float over there and bail them out.
Arcade game modes like Fiestafight, Sniperfight, Rocketfight and all the rest have a more every man for themselves approach. When you're playing on these game modes coordination amongst your team is less important because you don't really need them to survive and you have unlimited lives anyway (if you're playing on 4 player modes).
Extra Tips & Tricks
- During Floodfight mode you can find the ammo supply rack with a Battle Rifle on the eastern side of the map. The western side of the map has the standard UNSC Assault Rifle, it's very close to the Shotgun spawn that's always here.
- If you'd like some advice on what weapons to use during ODST's Firefight and Floodfight modes I recommend you check out my Halo 3 ODST Firefight/Floodfight Weapon Tier List. That page is filled with information about each weapon and what sorts of scenarios they excel in and why. It also compares all weapons to give you an idea of what you'll want pick up and what you'll want to leave.
- When there are invisible Brutes or invisible Flood spawning I strongly recommend you use your VISR because it'll give the enemies an outline and make them much easier to see. Even if it is light out and VISR makes it harder to see - switch it on and off as you scan an area for invisible enemies.
