Location of All Spell Vendors in Baldur's Gate 2

Adventurer Mart Level 9 Spells

This page contains a list of vendors that you can visit throughout the game to buy Wizard spells from. If you're new to Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 it's worth noting that you can only buy Arcane spells in this game. Divine magic aka magic cast by Priest classes like Clerics, Druids, Shamans etc are automatically learned when leveling up. There are a few Divine magic scrolls in this game but you can't scribe them to learn them like you can with Arcane spells.

As far as the order I chose for this page, spell vendors that you can access early on in the game are closest to the top of the page. I also recommend you check out the Scrolls List on Sorcerer's.net as well. They document locations other than vendors that you can obtain specific spells. That guide is one I found helpful when I first started playing BG2 and was part of the reason I made this page.

Waukeen's Promenade - Galoomp the Bookkeeper

Galoomp the Bookkeeper Waukeens

This spell merchant is loaded with almost all the level 1 - 5 spells in the game and he has a Scroll Case! He is missing some of the more rare spells but he has stuff like Chaos, Cloudkill, Animate Dead, Greater Malison, Improved Invis, Haste, Fireball, Fire Arrow and the list goes on. Usually this is the first vendor I hit up in the game for spells.

Waukeen's Promenade Night Time Spell Vendor

Night Vendor in Waukeens

In Waukeen's Promenade you'll find a spell vendor named Jayes on the eastern side of the map whom only spawns at night time (hours 20:30 to 05:30). He sells a variety of different weapons and armor, none of which I have ever bought from him... I do occasionally visit him for the spells he has available, though. He's also one of the only people in the game who sells a Scroll Case too which I would recommend you carry around at least 2 on you since they fill up quick!

Adventurer's Mart

Adventurers Mart Vendors

The Adventurer's Mart is one of the most important vendor shops in the entire game and that's the reason I made the picture bigger than the others. Inside of the Adventurer's Mart you'll find a variety of vendors all of which have different purposes. Ribald is the main vendor in this building and he has a large variety of different equipment along with a "special wares" section that you can access for 50g after Chapter 5.

Ribald: This is the main vendor in the building. He has over 100 items in his normal wares some of which are spells and potions. Once you reach Chapter 6 you'll also be able to pay him 50g to see his special wares which contain some Level 9 spells like Time Stop and Wail of the Banshee.

Deidre: Deidre doesn't have a big selection of items but what she does have is very rare and valuable items -- some of which are best in slot. Robe of Vecna is the BiS caster armor, Vhailor's Helm is an amazing swap item for some classes and the Shield of Balduran can trivialize most Beholder fights. Usually I end up buying at least these 3 items on each play through.

Lady Yuth: Lady Yuth is the spell vendor in this building and she carries about 50 different spells along with a Scroll Case. You'll typically want to visit her at some point during the first few chapters of the game to stock up on spells for your primary spell casters.

Copper Coronet - Bernard & Joluv

Copper Coronet Vendors

The Copper Coronet houses 2 more important vendors - only one of which sells spells. Bernard is the main vendor of the Copper Coronet and he has a wide selection of spells available, some of which are even high level! To expand Bernard's inventory and lower his spell costs you'll have to complete the Free Hendak and the Slaves Side Quest.

Bernard: Once you've unlocked Bernard's full inventory by completing Free Hendak and the Slaves you'll be able to buy spells from him such as Simulacrum, Incendiary Cloud, Spell Sequencer, Spell Turning and more!

Joluv: Joluv is not a spell vendor but he deserves to be mentioned anyway since he sells a few best in slot items. Be sure to check him out! Pretty much every playthrough I will purchase Sling of Everad and Defender of Easthaven from him at least.

Black Market Thief at Shadow Thief Guildhall

Black Market Thief Spell Vendor

Another small spell vendor that you can check in Athkatla for spells you want is the Black Market Thief. You'll find this vendor in the Shadow Thief Guildhall which is located in the Docks District; when you walk inside she'll be right in front of you.

Bridge District - Cutpurse Night Time Vendor

Cutpurse Merchant Bridge District

You can find another vendor that is only available at night time in the Bridge District of Athkatla. Between the hours of 17:30 to 3:30 you'll want to search around the Derelict House in the southwestern portion of the map (pictured above). Here you'll find a Cutpurse Merchant who sells a variety of high level and mid level spells.

A few of the good spells he sells are Improved Haste, Protection from Magical Weapons, Spell Immunity and more!

City Gate District - After Saving From bully

City Gates One Time Merchant

This merchant in the City Gates map can only be accessed 1 time after successfully completing the event that takes place here. How it works is 5 days after you pass through this zone for the first time you'll get an event the next time you pass through here. The event will be between the Merchant and someone named Hanj.

If you choose to defend the Merchant during this dialogue he'll show you his wares before permanently leaving the game. For a list of all the spells he sells check out the City Gates Merchant wiki page.

Trademeet Smithy Spell Vendor

Trademeet Spell Vendor

None of the vendors in Trademeet will sell to you until you complete the Dealing With The Trademeet Genies side quest. Once this quest has been completed all vendors will open up shop and start selling again. The Smithy in Trademeet is one of the better spell vendors that you get access to during the early Chapters of this game.

I often visit the Smithy and purchase Spell Thrust, Fireshield (Red), Breach, Lower Resistance, Protection from Magical Energy and Mislead.

Trademeet Tent Spell Vendor

Trademeet 2 Spell Vendor

None of the vendors in Trademeet will sell to you until you complete the Dealing With The Trademeet Genies side quest. Once this quest has been completed all vendors will open up shop and start selling again. Saving the best for last, the Caravan Merchant whom you can find inside of one of the 2 tents just outside of Trademeet has the best spells.

Some of the spells sold by this vendor are absolute must haves and can't be found on any other low level vendors. Things like Improved Haste, Protection from Magical Weapons, Spell Immunity, Minor Sequencer and Fireshield (Red).

Red Wizard Enclave (During Neera's Companion Quest) - Waukeen's Plaza

Red Wizard Enclave Spell Merchant

You can only access the vendors inside of the Red Wizard Enclave for a very short time during Neera's Companion Quest. There are various vendors inside the Red Wizard Enclave but the only one I am going to draw attention to is the Spell Vendor. He sells Mordenkainen's Sword, Mantle, Contingency, Mislead and many more very useful spells for lower level players.

Watcher's Keep - As Early As Chapter 2

Sister Garlena Watchers Keep

A great spell vendor that you can visit as early as Chapter 2 is Sister Garlena at Watcher's Keep. The first time you arrive at Watcher's Keep you'll have to go through dialogue with everyone out front after which you'll be teleported ontop of the roof (pictured above). Once you've made it to this point you'll have full access to their vendor, Sister Garlena who has not only a bunch of great spells but also other valuable items like a Potion Case and a Gem Bag.

Sister Garlena doesn't have too many "rare" spells but she has a massive selection of pretty much every common must have spell in the game.

Brynnlaw - Chapter 4 ONLY

Brynnlaw Spell Merchant

The only vendor in all of Brynnlaw has a very small selection of spells that you may want to check out while you're here. Check the Brynnlaw Store wiki page for a complete list of items, Breach, Lower Resistance and Contingency are typically all I will buy from him.

Underwater City (City of Caverns) - Chapter 4 ONLY

Priestess of Sekolah Spell Vendor

You can find a spell vendor in the Underwater City map which is only available for a very short time during Chapter 4. The vendor in question is named Priestess of Sekolah and she has close to 100 different spells for sale that you can buy. Most of the spells sold by her are lower level spells but considering you just got Imoen earlier in this Chapter, this vendor gives you the opportunity to completely outfit her with basically every spell she missed.

Underdark - Chapter 5 first available

Underdark Spell Vendor

In the southern portion of the Underdark you'll find a vendor by the name of Carlig that first becomes available during Chapter 5. Carlig sells some high level spells like Improved Haste, Mass Invisibility, Project Image and Spell Sequencer that you may be interested in buying. He also sells a Freedom Scroll which you'll need to begin the A Mage's Proposal Side Quest.

Ust Natha - Chapter 5 ONLY

Ust Natha Spell Vendors

The vendors in Ust Natha are found on the first large platform at the entrance to the city. Each of the vendors are simply named 'Drow' so you'll have to check each one to see what they have and to learn which vendor is which. For a list of all the spells sold by this vendor check the Ust Natha Spell Vendor wiki page.

Warning! Ust Natha is only friendly to you during the Inside The Drow City and The Drow Summoning Ritual side quests. Once you complete these quests you'll permanently lose access to these vendors!

Suldanessellar - Chapter 7

Reirra Spell Vendor Suldanessellar

The last spell vendor that will become available to you in the base game is Reirra in Suldanessellar. Reirra will teleport into Suldanessellar just outside of the Temple of Rillifane after you summon the Avatar of Rillifane. She doesn't have very many high level spells but she has a healthy selection of all the early and midgame spells that you could hope for.
