Onyxia Raid Lead Guide
The Onyxia fight consists of three phases, during the first phase you don't want to go very crazy on DPS, white damage and the occasional ability is what is usually recommended. During Phase 2 DPS is going to want to go all out on Onyxia since she is airborne and resets the majority of her agro at the start of Phase 3.
Phase 3 is the make or break phase for Onyxia. Most groups wipe because they don't position her in the right spot fast enough and not all of the DPS stops attacking long enough for the tank to get her into position. You have to remember that when the tank is moving they can NOT build threat. Until Onyxia is in her proper position the tank won't be able to get a solid hold on her.
Raid Bullet Points/Tips:
- Make an ingame macro that you spam during phase 2 into phase 3 reminding melee to stop DPS
- If DPS isn't stopping during the Phase 2 to Phase 3 transition then you should assign a Warlock to pull Onyxia to the front of the raid and die where the tanks are
- Make sure the tanks know to follow Onyxia's target circle around on the ground and jump to hit her. Tell tanks to get agro on a whelp so they can build extra threat.
- Tell the DPS not to kill any single whelps they see on a tank otherwise it will mess up the strategy
- (Phase 2) RAID CALLOUTS: Don't use cardinal directions, use Upper Left/Upper Right and Lower Left/Lower Right. I think this is less confusing for people than North, South East and West
- Assign someone else who isn't raid leader to do the Raid Callouts during Phase 2. It will be too much for the raid leader to do both and they may slack off with their other responsibilities.
