Mage Class Guide
Everything You Need To Know About Frostfire Bolt created by Zaldinar
Mages are masters of the Magical Arts. They can port themselves around the world, summon food for them and their allies and blow shit up. I'd like to emphasize the blow shit up part. No other class can hurl a huge fireball at you that would make you shit your pants when it hits you. Mages aren't all offensive though, they have some of the most desired methods of Crowd Control in the game, along with the best method to stop a healer in their tracks.
Mages best crowd control spell is Polymorph. Polymorph will turn the mages target into a sheep for 40seconds, unless it is another player then it will only last 10 seconds. Mages are also very well known for their ability to Counterspell. Counterspell will silence an entire school of magic for 8 seconds. The cache is you must Counterspell the target while he is casting a spell from that school.
Mages are best known for being a Glass Cannon. This means that they can deal a TON of damage, but take very little. They do have some things to help them take damage such as Iceblock, Mana Shield, Ice Barrier and Blink. The truth is if you let anyone in your face without getting away quickly you're going down FAST. The mage has 3 specs available to them. Frost, Fire and Arcane. Frost is the best for burst damage and survivability while both Arcane and Fire are for sustained damage, making them almost perfect for raid DPS.
Mages are also well known for their ability to AoE. They have some of the strongest AoE abilities in the game. When the mage is required to AoE he should run in and use Arcane Explosion, the key to surviving is realize when you're starting to get too much agro and blink out of there. Since the mage is so squishy it will take a lot of practice and skill to master staying alive.
If you enjoy being a glass cannon and groups wanting you for your ability to conjure food and water, along with your ability to crowd control you'll enjoy the mage.
Mages Strengths:
- Able to Conjure Food and Water for himself and his group
- Best AoE Class in the game, also one of the best ranged damage dealers as well
- Able to open portals to all major cities, which in term greatly reduces travel time
- Counterspell and Polymorph are great spells that deserve to be put in this section they are so darn good.
- Able to remove curses. Which means in arena when your healer has a curse on him REMOVE IT.
- Very fast class to level
- Can turn Invisible, but can't see anyone while Invisible
Mages Weaknesses:
- Very low defense, if a melee class gets in your face you're going down... FAST.
- Very mana dependant. Without mana you can't defend yourself or do damage
- Must be very good at multi-tasking you play a mage effectively
Mages in PvP
I decided to make a whole separate section to better explain the mage in PvP, since some people can't grasp the class. Mages are a very popular choice for 5v5 arena teams because of there ability to root a ton of melee in place, Counter spell, Dispell Curse and of course Polymorph.
In PvP as a Mage you're going to need to learn what target to Poly, when to poly and why to poly. What I mean by this is, say you counter spell a paladin, which locks him down for 8 seconds. Counterspell wears off and he begins to heal. Poly him to interrupt his heal. He becomes un poly'd, do it again to interrupt it again. This will give your team PLENTY of time to take down whatever target they're on.
That's the Why, when and who right there. There are plenty of things you'll need to master as a mage. Another example is your Frost Elemental, you need to learn how to properly position his Frost Nova.
PvP as a Mage is no walk in the park and isn't something that can be mastered in a day or two.
