Tank Warrior Consumables List
This guide covers all of the popular consumables that you'll want to use as a Prot Warrior in Classic WoW. There are many consumables that I left out when writing this guide in an effort not to overburden you with information. Items like Elixir of Greater Agility could be used instead in place of Elixir of the Mongoose, but that's only recommended if you're on a really tight budget.
Return to How to Tank on Warriors in Classic WoW Guide
**Important** If you're a Fury/Prot tank, your spec is basically built around heavy consumable usage. You'll want to use Elixir of Superior Defense & Greater Stoneshield Potions on many fights to make up for your lack of a shield along with every other important consumable available. Expect to spend upwards of 200 gold per raid.
Mandated Tank Consumables
This section is the consumables that you should be using on every single "difficult" raid or boss. Use your best judgment to determine if the raid requires consumables or not.
- Flask of the Titans
- Elixir of the Mongoose
- Elixir of Giants (or Juju Power)
- Elixir of Superior Defense
- Rumsey Rum Black Label
- Stam Food Buff (Tender Wolf Steak or other) - VERY high end elite guilds will want to use a STR buff instead for more threat
- Greater Stoneshield Potion (some fights); Major Health Potion; Mighty Rage Potion (some fights)
- Free Action Potion (some fights)
- Goblin Sapper Charge & Dense Dynamite (For more threat - only elite guilds will require these)
- Mighty Rage Potions
- Winterfall Firewater or Juju Might
Honorable Mentions: Elemental Sharpening Stone, Juju Escape, Elixir of Fortitude, Greater Protection Potions (Fire, Frost, Shadow, Nature)
With all of the mandated consumables out of the way, let's take a look at every useful available consumable for Tank Warriors. Below is a complete list of every consumable you could use as a Tank, there are a few consumables below that aren't mentioned above.
Pre-fight Consumables
These are the consumables that you will be using before fights even begin.
Flask of the Titans: One of the most important consumables for any tank
Elixir of the Mongoose: 2% Crit helps keep Flurry up longer and increases rage generation
Elixir of Fortitude: A measly 120 Health but very cheap/easy to make
Elixir of Superior Defense: 450 Armor; helps make up for lacking a shield for Fury/Prot specs
Juju Power or Elixir of Giants: Both increase Strength and stack with every STR buff (including totems). For Warriors 1 STR = 2 Attack Power
Juju Might or Winterfall Firewater: Both increase your Attack Power outright and stack with every other AP buff
Gift of Arthas: Situationally useful, fights like Razorgore or on trash it helps a lot. Otherwise it takes up a debuff slot and hinders the raid more than it helps
Juju Chill or Juju Ember: Situationally useful, fights like Vael or Ragnaros that use a lot of fire I would recommend Ember, fights like Sapphiron that use a lot of frost I would recommend Chill
Rumsey Rum Black Label: Extremely cheap and useful stam buff to use before any difficult boss
Elemental Sharpening Stone: Extremely expensive but useful consumable. Crit is extremely important for Fury Warriors. Horde should only use 1 of these on their off-hand so they can still benefit from Windfury
Crystal Ward: Un'goro Crater consumable - stacks with ALL other Armor buffs
Major Troll's Blood Potion: Not very good. Does not work during Combat
Greater Protection Potions
These are situationally useful and which one you use is highly dependant on your raid. For the most part, these are much less useful to tanks since they're consumed within a matter of seconds. Other classes that don't have as much incoming damage as tanks benefit much more from them.
Greater Fire Protection Potion: (Very useful for some fights in Molten Core and BWL)
Greater Nature Protection Potion: (Very useful for some fights in Aq40 and Aq20)
Greater Frost Protection Potion: (Used during the Sapphiron fight in Naxx)
Greater Arcane Protection Potion: (Useful for the Shazzrah fight in Molten Core)
Greater Shadow Protection Potion: (Useful for Nefarian/Naxx fights)
Food Consumables
Throughout all of Classic WoW the food buff will last 15 minutes and is one of the cheapest/easiest ways to boost a stat of your choice. For the first half of Classic (Phases 1 - 3) Tender Wolf Steaks and Monster Omelets reign supreme. Later on when Smoked Desert Dumplings and Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops are added you'll be using one of those in Aq40 or Naxx.
Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops: 25 Stamina
Smoked Desert Dumplings: 20 Strength - Phase 5 Recipe from Silithus
Tender Wolf Steak: 12 Stam & Spirit; Budget consumable
Monster Omelet: 12 Stam & Spirit; Budget consumable
Blessed Sunfruit: 10 Strength - Argent Dawn Reputation
Winter Squid:
Dragonbreath Chili
Combat Consumables
These are consumables that you'll use during combat or immediately before combat (usually on the pull). You should have most of these on you at all times for any situation that requires them.
Greater Stoneshield Potion: This potion gives you 2000 Armor when you drink it for two minutes. Using this potion makes up for not wearing a shield since it is 4/5ths the armor a shield typically gives. You'll want to use this potion as you're engaging the enemy on bosses you know hit very hard.
Mighty Rage Potion: You'll be using this potion in a few different scenarios. One of the main one that comes to mind is Phase 3 Onyxia, if you need to build some quick threat to pick her up chug one of these. Any time you need a quick boost of threat - chug one of these and use an Engineering consumable.
Major Healing Potion: Your and everyone elses "oh shit" button.
Restorative Potion: Situationally useful, in BWL only Chromaggus may require these. In later instances they'll be more frequently used.
Free Action Potion: Situationally useful as well. These are used much more often than Restorative Potions
Living Action Potion: This potion removes Stun or Slow effects you already have on you and makes you immune to them for 5 seconds. Free Action is typically better as it lasts longer.

Healthstone: Also known as Warlock candy, a great "oh shit" button that is on a different cooldown from your other potions
Whipper Root Tuber: You can get these from the plants in Felwood and are useful for when you don't have any Healthstones available

Juju Escape: Gives you 5% dodge for a very short period of time. It's debatable how much this helps but I enjoy having them and using them
Engineering Consumables
While many of the Engineering items don't share a cooldown, they do share a "use" cooldown of 1 minute. What this means is, if you use an Engineering like Goblin Sapper Charge it'll trigger a 1 minute cooldown on other items like Dense Dynamite.
Gnomish Battle Chicken: Occasionally uses Battle Squawk which increases the group's Attack Speed by 5% for 30 seconds

Explosive Sheep: You can use this item before battle begins, much like the Goblin Land Mine. It'll give you a teeny bit of threat at the start but overall it's not worth constantly using in my opinion
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Goblin Land Mine: This is slightly different than the Sapper Charge and can be used in conjunction with it. The Goblin Land Mine isn't detonated in place immediately, instead it's placed on the ground and in order to detonate it you need to pull the boss overtop. Up to you if you'd like to spend the money on it or not, only useful on some encounters.

Goblin Sapper Charge: A good way to look at this item is it's basically an Arcane Explosion that hurts you. This item is one of the most in demand Engineering consumables in the game since it's used by many DPS for a boost in the parses as well as by tanks for threat & some guilds use Sapper Charges for unique boss strategies.

Thorium Grenade: The only reason people use this grenade is because they want to stun the enemies they're fighting. It's far more expensive to make than the Dense Dynamite which is what you should be using for threat instead of this item.
Dense Dynamite: This is the most important Engineering Consumable with Goblin Sapper Charges coming in close second. This item will help Warriors get agro on packs of four or more enemies due to the fact that the damage done by the dynamite translates into threat.
