Farming Mithril in Burning Steppes

Out of all the zones for farming Mithril Ore, Burning Steppes takes the cake for the best one if you ask me. The sheer amount of Mithril you will get here is just amazing. If you remember Burning Steppes from before Cataclysm with farming Thorium here, there is double the amount of Mithril as there was Thorium and usually there isn't a single person here farming it which makes it twice as awesome. One difference between the Thorium that used to be here and the Mithril that is here now is quite a few of the spawn locations have changed so the old path that you once knew oh so well for Thorium no longer applies here.

In addition to the changed spawn locations for the Mithril Ore the Dreadmaul Ogre caves are no longer worth going into. I mean of course they have Mithril inside of them but with how fast the Mithril spawns outside of the caves and how much time it will take for you to travel through the caves and gather it all time vrs money earned is not even remotly the same. You're better off just flying around if you want more Mithril. As far as the new Burning Steppes farming path, below is a picture of the path that I have found to work the best for farming Mithril Ore.

As far as where to start, it doesn't really matter. You can do a perfect cycle through all of Burning Steppes and end up exactly where you started with the same amount of Mithril. To answer your question, it doesn't really matter what direction you go in either. The direction I use can be seen in the video below, mostly I just travel east at the southern end of Burning Steppes and west when I am at the northern end. Also I don't always cut over to Deadmaul Rock where the ogres are, generally I only do that when I want some variation with my path.
