Guild Wars 2 Southsun Gathering Guide
With the Secrets of Southsun Patch quite a few new locations in Southsun Cove opened and showed their true colors as great farming locations. This one here is just a gathering guide but it is great to use this guide inbetween farming other areas in Southsun to avoid DR and other things. All around Southsun Cove you can find Elder Wood Logs and Ancient Wood Logs as well as Mithril Ore and Orichalcum. These are of course your standard T5 and T6 gathering nodes which can be found in more zones than just Southsun.
However Southsun also has two 'Cooking' Gathering nodes that can't be found anywhere else...
These nodes are Passiflora Nodes. Upon harvesting the Passiflora plant you will get Passion Fruits which are little red coconut looking fruits. These nodes are primarily gathered on the eastern end of Southsun Cove in the more 'tropical' looking areas. There are two types of Passiflora nodes, one is just the regular Passiflora node and the other one is called a Blooming Passiflora. The Blooming Passiflora will give you Passion Fruit, much like the regular nodes as well as another green item, Passion Flower.
The Passion Flowers are where the money is at since they can sell for upwards of 25s each and the regular Passion Fruits just sell for a lackluster 40c usually. These nodes respawn every hour much like many of the other gathering nodes however (according to the Gw2wiki) they have a set number of times you can gather them per day depending on your account. I have never hit a gathering limit on these fruits or flowers so I can not speak from experience but it is definitely something you may want to keep in mind when gathering here.
Now if you've used my farming guides in the past you know inbetween farming other stuff I usually like to do gathering routes that way it will break up the monotonous grinding and also help you with hitting your Diminishing Returns. Below is a map of the usual farming route I do through Southsun Cove followed by a video showing you my gathering run. Now you may notice when watching the video or if you don't you may want to know that I skip most Cypress Saplings (they give Elder Wood Logs).
The reason I do this is because the Elder Wood Logs just aren't selling currently for much and I don't feel like wasting time stopping for something I am hardly going to turn a profit from.
