Ranis Athrys Balmora Mage's Guild Quests
Ranis Athrys is the second Mage's Guild quest giver in Balmora and unlike with Ajira you'll need to be at least the rank of Journeyman (2) to accept any quests from her. The quests Ranis gives you aren't as straight forward as the ones from Ajira, a couple of them have alternate outcomes depending on how you handle them.
During the final quest from Ranis Athrys you'll be given the option of altering evidence and getting her expelled from the Mage's Guild if you'd like. If you choose to go this route there are no ramifications for getting her expelled. Typically when I join the Mage's Guild I choose to expel her because I do not like her personality. Most of her quests involve hurting or being deceptive towards others to further her own interests and she seems to show no remorse of doing so.
Ranis Athrys Quest #1 - Recruit or Kill Llarar Bereloth
You'll recieve this quest as well as Manwe's Dues at the same time from Ranis Athrys and both of these quests take place in the same area. To reach the Sulipund/Punabi area you'll want to either travel east from Balmora or take the Silt Strider to Suran and travel north from Suran.
In order to successfully convince Llarar Bereloth to join the Mage's Guild you'll need to raise his disposition to 70 or above. Otherwise you'll have to kill him. Killing him will result in a worse reward for completing the quest.
Ranis Athrys Quest #2 - Manwe's Dues
This quest begins at the same time as the Recruit or Kill Llarar Bereloth quest and takes place in the same location. As aforementioned, the fastest way to get to the Sulipund/Punabi area is to either travel east from Balmora or to take the Silt Strider to Suran and travel north up the river.
In order to make Manwe pay you the guild dues you'll need to increase her disposition to 60 or greater. Your other method for completing this quest is to outright kill Manwe but that will get you the worst reward possible for the quest.
Ranis Athrys Quest #3 - Unsanctioned Training
Another easy quest, head over to the South Wall Corner Club in Balmora and speak with Only-He-Stands-There. There are multiple ways you can handle this, you can tell him to stop offering training or allow him to continue offering training -- at a discount to you. In order to convince him to stop training people you'll need to raise your disposition a little bit with him first.
Of course, it's Elder Scrolls so you can always just kill him too. Killing him will get you the most disposition from Ranis Athrys along with 4 Scrolls of Elemental Burst: Fire.
Ranis Athrys Quest #4 - Escort Itermerel
Itermerel is found at Eight Plates, the tavern just a bit north of the Mage's Guild in Balmora. Speak with him and offer to escort him to Pelagiad to get the quest rolling. You'll have a few methods of completing this quest, you can pick pocket the notes from him -- technically before you even offer to escort him. Or you can lead him out of Balmora and kill him then loot the notes.
Alternatively, you can escort him to Pelagiad like you agreed to do and he'll give you his notes when you reach the Halfway Tavern in Pelagiad. Use my map screenshot below if you'd like to plan your route. It's worth mentioning too that letting Itermerel live will help you unlock an alternative ending to the final quest Ranis Athrys gives -- one you might like if you dislike Ranis. More on this below.
Ranis Athrys Quest #5 - Kill Necromancer Tashpi Ashibael
For this next quest ride the Silt Strider to Maar Gan and visit Tashpi Ashibael's house in the town, she isn't too difficult to find. Much like with the previous quest you'll be given the option of killing her or letting her escape. If you choose to let her escape and you also decided to help Itermerel you'll be able to get the secondary ending to the next quest - Catch a Spy.
It's worth mentioning that there is no proof that Tashpi Ashibael is a Necromancer. It's very likely Ranis Athrys just doesn't like her and is get her killed as a result.
Ranis Athrys Quest #6 - Catch a Spy
The final quest given to you by Ranis Athrys requires you to take the Mage Guild Guide to Vivec and talk with the mages here about a Telvanni Spy. You'll want to speak with Trebonius Artorius in the Vivec Mage's Guild about Telvanni Spies to advance the quest. He'll give you the credentials of Tiram Gadar when you ask for them and your character will conclude that they're obviously fake (Ocato's name is spelled incorrectly).
If you press Trebonius Artorius his disposition towards you will drop and there is nothing to do except return to Ranis and give him the fake credentials which will complete the quest. There is an alternative ending, however, you'll sacrifice some of your reward. You'll still get +1 reputation and +5 disposition for the entire Mage's guild but you'll lose the mediocre items Ranis was going to give you if you gave him the fake credentials.
For anyone who let Tashpi Ashibael and Itermerel live in the previous two quests, you'll be able to tell Tiram Gadar that Ranis is the Telvanni Spy and have her expelled from the Mage's Guild.
