Bull Kelp Farms - Don't Starve Together Guides
Bull Kelp is a vegetable that you can find in the ocean as well as in the Rocky Beach Biome which is part of the Lunar Island and the Hermit Island. This guide is going to focus on the Bull Kelp that you get from both of the islands because this Bull Kelp is a little bit different. On the beaches of Lunar Island and Hermit Island you'll find Bull Kelp Stalks which give you both Bull Kelp and the stalk.
When you pick up a Bull Kelp Stalk you will get both a Bull Kelp and a Bull Kelp Stalk in your inventory. Bull Kelp Stalks allow you to plant Bull Kelp in the ocean in an area of your choosing - this is the item that makes this farm possible. You can find Bull Kelp Stalks on these beaches fairly regularly and it won't take you very long at all to get an abundant amount of it.
Once you have collected some Bull Kelp Stalks the decision you need to make is where do you plant it? I recommend you find an area with a straight coastline so that you can plant the Bull Kelp Stalks in a row along the coast. This is done for two reasons, #1 it makes it easier to harvest if you decide to leave it this way and #2 it allows us to bunch the Bull Kelp up into a single location.
After you plant a long line of Bull Kelp Stalks into the ocean what you should do is make a boat and an Oar. Hop onto the boat and use the Oar to row in the direction of the coastline at an angle. Your goal is to push all of the Bull Kelp Stalks along the coastline until they're all bunched up in a corner.
You'll want to line up all of your Bull Kelp just like you see in my screenshot above. Once this is done build a boat on the side opposite of the corner you plan to wedge them into. Then simply drive the boat into the Bull Kelp and push them against the land and down the coastline. You'll want to sail into the coastline at a slight angle so that the Bull Kelp are kept against the coast and pushed.
Warning! Make sure you go slow while pushing the Bull Kelp. If you go quickly and crash into land they will 'explode' onto land and it will create a mess. Check out my How to push Bull Kelp into one spot DST video for an example of exactly how this should be done. You need slow and steady movement - if you start going fast enough that you'll damage the boat when you collide into land then you're going too fast.
That's really all there is to it! Bull Kelp make an excellent food for you to have at your base since they will save you time gathering when you bunch them all up into one spot and they have a pretty quick respawn which will keep you fed across multiple days.
Other Tips & Tricks
- Try to make your Bull Kelp harvest patch within proximity to your fire that way you can gather them at night and cook them up. This will give you something to do during the long nights.
