Horadric Cube Gem Recipes - Diablo 2
Transmuting gems in the Horadric Cube works the same way (for the most part) as transmuting runes. If you want to upgrade the gem you have then you'll need 3 lower quality gems of the same type which you then place into the Horadric Cube and combine. To give you an example of what I am talking about, 3 Chipped Topaz make 1 Flawed Topaz.
In addition to the basic recipes to upgrade your lower quality gems there are a few more recipes that use gems too that this page is going to mention.

3 Lower Quality Gems of the same type
3 Chipped Sapphire = 1 Flawed Sapphire
3 Flawed Sapphire = 1 Regular Sapphire
3 Sapphire = 1 Flawless Sapphire
3 Flawless Sapphire = 1 Perfect Sapphire
This process works for every type of Gem along with Skulls.
When you hear about gambling in Diablo 2 with Magic Items most people are probably talking about this recipe. To explain what this recipe does in a better way, it basically just rerolls the stats on an item. People like to do this with Charms to see if they can get anything good as well as with Amulets to see if they can get one for +2 to Skills. For more information about Gambling for Charms and Amulets with the Horadric Cube follow the link provided.
