Diablo 3 Inferno "The Butcher" Farming Guide
The Butcher is probably the most farmed location on Inferno in Diablo 3. This is one of the first locations you will be farming on Inferno and since the gap between Act 1 and Act 2 is so big players usually spend a lot of time farming here, moreso than other areas like the Cathedral before this. For farming The Halls of Agony (which is where you will be during a Butcher run) you will want to select The Imprisoned Angel quest, the very first part of it. Once you enter the game talk to Leah to accept the quest and take the Waypoint to Leoric's Mansion.
Once you enter the mansion most people run right on down to the Halls of Agony and get started. Not me though! What I recommend you do is backtrack a bit on go to Leoric's Manor Courtyard where you will usually find at least two named mobs which will give you a little head start on the Nephalem Valor for this run. Also in Leoric's Manor you will have a chance to find Leoric's Shinbone which is used in creating the Staff of Herding to access Whimsyshire. I show the exact location of this Shinbone in my video and also talk a little bit about it.
After you clear Leoric's Manor Courtyard you will want to continue through the Halls of Agony to complete this quest. I recommend you explore as much as possible, break all the Torture Barrels, use all the Weapon Racks and flip over all of the Dead Bodies. The time it takes you to do all this stuff is no more than a few seconds and you can get some good stuff from them. The dead bodies sometimes have over a thousand gold on them and the weapon racks are where I found my first Legendary in this very area.
I go over most of the strategy for this place in my video but I will give you a few tips here as well. The order of places you are going to be going is Leoric's Manor Courtyard (Usually at least 1 or 2 nameds here) Halls of Agony Level 1 (usually 3 nameds here), Halls of Agony Level 2 (Same as the first level), Highlands Passage (There won't be any nameds here unless the weapon maker is here. There is always a vendor in Highlands Passage though, so take advantage of that!). The Cursed Hold is the second to last place, this is where you will be fighting the Warden, the first boss.
The Cursed Hold is huge and there are usually at least 3 or 4 packs of Elites/Champions in here. An extremely important thing to remember is you should clear out the middle of the zone before freeing all of the prisoners. Sometimes an elite pack spawns in the center of the map and them + the Warden could lead to your quick death. After you free all of the prisoners you will want to run to the middle to trigger the Warden's spawn. He is an extremely easy boss that only has 1 effect, Jailor. It's rather appropriate considering this is a prison.
Below is a picture of his loot:
Act 1 Inferno Warden Drops
After you kill the Warden you will want to continue through The Cursed Hold a little bit to the south where you will find The Halls of Agony Level 3. This is the final level and in here you will be looking for The Chamber of Suffering. This level of the Halls of Agony is the same as the previous ones, there are a few elites or champions here which is good as they will refresh your Nephalem Valor buff before you go against The Butcher. As far as bosses go on Inferno The Butcher is extremely easy to kill. Dodge his more annoying attacks and don't stand in the fire and you win.
Below is a picture of the loot you will usually see off of The Butcher. Further down the page I go into more detail about all the goodies you will come across throughout your farming here.
Act 1 The Butcher Drops
That's all there is to farming The Butcher during Act 1 of Inferno. I hope you get some phat loot during your runs like I have! If you are curious how much some of the stuff you get here sells for the most I have gotten off an item here is about 750k. That's after the AH cut too. I have found two legendary items farming here, one was utter crap which I sold for 12k just to get rid of it and forget I found it and the other one, a pair of bracers, I am using!
